Bee Gees Legend Robin Gibb Passes Away at 63

Robin Gibb, one of the co-founders of the legendary trio singing group, the Bee Gees, has died from complications of cancer at the age of 63. The name Bee Gees was short for Brothers Gibb, the group consisted of Robin, Maurice and Barry. Originating from Australia, the Bee Gees soared to worldwide fame when they wrote and sang songs for John Travoltas smash hit movie, Saturday Night Fever. Although not as well known as his brother Barry, Robin Gibb used his unique voice and sang such hits for the group as I Started A Joke, which was a sentimental ballad that went on to become a worldwide sensation. It is considered to be one of the best songs the Bee Gees ever wrote. Robin Gibb was first diagnosed with colon and liver cancer several years ago. Despite making what seemed to be a complete recovery, considering the circumstances, he succumbed to the disease after falling back into a coma. Gibb was the lead vocalist for several of the groups widely acclaimed songs: Massachusetts, New York Mining Disaster 1941, and Ive Got to Get A Message To You. The Bee Gees cemented their harmonic falsetto sound during the 1970s when the disco phenomenon broke out worldwide. With a slew of Number #1 hits such as Stayin Alive, Night Fever, More Than A Woman, Too Much Heaven, Nights on Broadway, Tragedy, and How Deep Is Your Love, to name just a few. In all, the group would go on to sell an some 250 million records, becoming one of the bestselling artists of all time.

The Bee Gees would go on to win nine Grammy Awards and Five American Music Awards, including Album of the Year for Saturday Night Fever and a Lifetime Achievement Award. The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery.
