While

we endeavour to be as flexible as possible, it is important that we adhere to certain rules to avoid disappointment and confusion for both parties, BSLcourses.co.uk and the applicants/students. Free Trial Courses One of the benefits of doing a Free Trial Course with us is there are absolutely no obligations to do anything, such as the mock-up tutorial, if the student do not wish to them it is, after all, free to use at the students own wishes! However, if a student is a genuine and potential student with BSLcourses.co.uk, we would understand that that student may want to try out the mock-up tutorial so that they know how our courses are run. Once a tutorial has been booked, we ask that students respect their tutorial booking and attend it, if they can after all, it is a real tutor waiting on the other side of Skype committing to complete the tutorial with the student. Please see how to Book a tutorial, http://support.bslcourses.co.uk/customer/portal/articles/506091-book-a-tutorial At the end of the Free Trial Course, the student receives valuable (free!) feedback and recommendations from their allocated tutor on what course they are ready to do, should they wish to do so with BSLcourses.co.uk. Enjoy yourself! Our courses are not like normal classroom-based courses where we do not set deadlines or pressurise students into completing what they have to do to finish their course. It is entirely down to the students own pace and development toward completion and confidently become qualified at the Level of their choice in their own time. Viewing Video Classes These are in your student account (after logging in) on the right-hand side under the Course overview table. Simply click the available video class to play it. These clips cannot be downloaded as they are copyright of Total Communication 4 U, BSLcourses.co.uks sister company. October 2012

Terms and Conditions

Refunds Payments made are non-refundable and non-transferrable between courses and workshops (coming soon). Refunds are only considered in exceptional circumstances where the person enrolling has contacted us within 14 days of making the enrolment. Any refunds are made at our discretion and are subject to an administration fee of 25 per place enrolled. Signature assessments ALL assessments for Signatures (www.signature.org.uk) Level 1 Award in BSL and Level 2 Certificate in BSL qualifications must be completed at our assessment venue in Bognor Regis after the online training is complete. It is most likely the students allocated tutor will be person meeting them at the venue otherwise it will be our head-tutor completing the assessments. iBSL assessments All iBSL assessments (www.ibsl.org.uk) for their nationally accredited and recognised qualifications (Level 1 Award in BSL Studies, Level 2 Certificate in BSL Studies, Level 3 Certificate in BSL Studies and Level 4 Certificate in BSL Studies) are completed, throughout various stages of the course, via webcam between the student and their allocated tutor. iBSL have fully tested and approved BSLcourses.co.uks method of webcam assessments in which further course progression and such assessment arrangements are made in the same manner as the webcam tutorials (see Tutorials). Tutorials Students are reminded to attend all webcam tutorials that they arrange with their tutor. All of our courses require students to complete their tutorials to receive more video classes in their student account and, where necessary, to prepare them for the assessments and gain qualification.

October 2012

Should a student fail to attend any tutorial, at the initial date and time selected by the student, and failure to inform the tutor 48 hours beforehand that they cannot attend, they will lose the tutorial altogether. However, should the student decide the missing tutorial is required, they may face paying an administration fee for such rearrangement (see prices, below). Video classes, scheduled after tutorials, cannot be released in to the students course overview until the tutor has uploaded the tutorial clip in to the students course overview. It is the students responsibility to complete tutorials, just as it is in a normal classroom environment, for further progression on the course. Otherwise, it is the students agreement in writing (email) to their tutor that they do not wish to complete the missed tutorial whereby the next video classes will be released, despite this method being highly advised against and that, without the advise/feedback from our tutors/assessors and practice thereof, it would most likely hinder the students development toward qualification (where necessary). Arrangement of Tutorials Please refer to the How-to support page for booking tutorials, http://support.bslcourses.co.uk/customer/portal/articles/506091-book-a-tutorial As mentioned above, video classes scheduled after tutorials cannot be released in to the students course overview until the tutor has uploaded the tutorial clip in to the students Account. It is the students responsibility to complete tutorials, just as it is in normal classroom environments, for further progression in the course. Failure to do so may result in paying an administration fee to arrange another one (see prices below). Tutorial Clips Once the course is complete, all tutorials clips uploaded in to the student account will be removed after 6 months. The student is welcome to request for these clips to be copied on to a DVD and posted to the address stored on their student account. There is a 5 charge for this service that includes the post and packaging fee. Student Account It is the students responsibility to maintain their details in their student account Intellectual Property Rights October 2012

To protect our resources, BSLcourses.co.uk reserve the right to suspend/expel a students account and sue the student for any breach of BSLcourses.co.uks Intellectual Property (IP) Rights and other proprietary information in any country where it believes that infringement or a breach of this agreement relating to its IP Rights and/or other proprietary information might be taking place. The student recognises that BSLcourses.co.uks business relies upon the protection of its IP Rights and that in the event or threatening breach of IP Rights, BSLcourses.co.uk shall be caused irreparable damage and therefore shall be entitled to injunctive or equitable relief in order to prevent a breach or threatened breach of BSLcourses.co.uks IP Rights. Should BSLcourses.co.uk suspect a student using video classes for any other reason than for their own educational purpose, BSLcourses.co.uk will expel the account and launch an investigation and track the location of usage of such video classes used for any other reason than for their own education purpose (e.g., teaching other students against BSLcourses.co.uks permission, please see, below, White Label). White Label White label means a provider (e.g., BSLcourses.co.uk) has heavily invested/funded to create functioning software that is entirely depended on for the growth of their business and their achievements (e.g., to allow students to learn BSL on our website using our teaching materials/video classes) and that that provider allows other centres/providers to buy rights to use such software. In other words, another provider would love to have their own website to teach BSL to students online but they discover they cannot afford it. So, for a much smaller fee, they buy rights from BSLcourses.co.uk to use our website to teach their students. We have not yet set up a white label section on BSLcourses.co.uks website that permits centres/teachers to use BSLcourses.co.uks media platform, storage, student and tutor account set ups, tutorial booking calendar, upload and merge application, messaging system, and teaching materials (video classes). It is also possible for a centre/provider to create their own video classes, upload it to our platform and design their own course structure. Webcam tutorials (and iBSL webcam assessments) are arranged between the centres own tutors and students as it would be in a normal classroom environment.

October 2012

If you would like more information about this, please contact the Director, russ@bslcourses.co.uk. Please note, white label will not be available until around 2014. Should a centre wish to reserve their rights for when the white label is released, an upfront payment (to be discussed with the Director) can be arranged. Course Duration - Normal Pace

The Normal Pace duration is based on the number of Weeks (or sections) from the date of when the student enrolled on their course. Each Week is a 7-day period, allowing access to video classes in the student account or during which a tutorial is to be arranged, until the next Week is triggered to start (please note that a Week is not a deadline but rather a goal for students to achieve). October 2012

For example, most courses, in Week 1, will have the Introduction video class and the first video class released in the student Account for the student to watch and practice with for 7 days until it is then time for them to arrange a webcam tutorial with their tutor sometime during Week 2 see image, above. Once the tutorial has been completed, the tutor will upload the recorded tutorial clip on to the student account in which will then trigger Week 3 to start as scheduled. This will continue in the same fashion until the end of the course. As Weeks are not deadlines, this means all the while the student does not book a tutorial during the tutorial week, that week will continue extending until the tutorial is eventually booked and completed. Please note: the start of a new week is still the enrolment day therefore if the tutorial was completed after its initial 7-day period, the release of the following weeks video clips would be on the following enrolment day. - Fast Track (or Flexi-pace) Multiple video classes and tutorials are scheduled to happen EVERY week. The Fast Track duration is designed to get on with the course by squeezing the course contents over a time that is more than half of that of its Normal Pace equivalent. As with the Normal Pace duration, Fast Track Weeks (or sections) are not deadlines they simply allow the student to watch their new multiple video classes and complete their tutorials every week should they wish to. Fast Track allows new Weeks, which contain the new video classes and the next tutorial, to be made available to the student IMMEDIATELY after they have completed their previous Weeks tutorial (for example, the student completes their tutorial on the fifth day of that Week and the following Weeks new video classes are made available straightaway on that fifth day). This mean, the completion of the course is entirely in the students flexibility to do so and could finish the course as quickly as, for example, 6 weeks or take more time than the advertised number of weeks. As mentioned, above, video classes scheduled after tutorials cannot be released in to the students Account until the tutor has uploaded the tutorial clip in to the students Account. It is the students responsibility to complete tutorials, just as it is in normal classroom environments, for further progression in the course.

October 2012

Again, it would be the students agreement in writing to their tutor/assessor that they do not wish to complete the missed tutorial whereby the video class will be released, despite this method being highly advised against and that, without the tutor advise/feedback, and possible lack of practice, it would most likely hinder the students development and completion of the course. NVQ evidence collection Once a student collects the first evidence clip for their portfolio, the student automatically has 18 (eighteen) months to complete and submit the portfolio. This means after 18 months has passed from the date of their first evidence clip and that they have not submitted their portfolio, that first clip becomes invalid. This would require the student to collect a new evidence clip to replace the invalid clip and would incur an additional fee to cover the assessors time for planning and feedback purposes. For fees, please see the Administration fees table, below. Please note: it is important to read and understand ALL of Signatures Qualification Specification for either NVQ courses for smooth progression of the course and development of the portfolio. Our assessors are experts of the NVQ framework and would guide the student through the whole process. Certification / qualification Certificate - Signatures Level 1 Award in BSL and Level 2 Certificate in BSL Once the physical assessments are completed, BSLcourses.co.uk will copy the assessment clips on to a DVD and post it to Signature straightaway and they then pass on the DVD to an external assessor for marking purposes. Please allow this process to take around 6 to 8 weeks before receiving the qualifications Certificate. - iBSLs Level 1 Award in BSL Studies, Level 2 Certificate in BSL Studies, Level 3 Certificate in BSL Studies and Level 4 Certificate in BSL Studies As iBSL assessment work is portfolio-based (i.e., ALL webcam assessment clips and the students and assessors signed paperwork), the portfolio is sent to iBSL for external marking and verification purposes. Please allow 28 days before receiving the qualifications Certificate. - Signatures Level 3 NVQ Certificate in BSL and Level 6 NVQ Certificate in BSL As Signatures NVQ assessment work is portfolio-based (i.e., ALL evidence clips, the students, Internal Verifiers and assessors signed paperwork and all feedback October 2012

forms), the portfolio is held at BSLcourses.co.uk for Signatures External Verifier to approve. Please allow a minimum of 12 weeks for this process (or up to 24 weeks in very rare circumstances) before receiving the qualifications Certificate. - BSLcourses.co.uks Level 1 BSL Training, Level 2 BSL Training, Level 3 BSL Training and Level 6 BSL Training courses Upon completing any of these BSL Training courses, please allow 1 to 2 weeks before receiving the Certificate of Completion. Course Information BSLcourses.co.uk will endeavour to keep all course information correct and up-to- date. However, we reserve the right to alter course details, including tutor and assessor details and allocation, or course material, at any time should any unforeseen circumstances occur. Any changes would be notified by email. Student Details BSLcourses.co.uk will keep any student details on a database held only by us for the purposes of administration, market research and mailing, by post or email, of our own publicity from time to time. Please see our Data Protection policy for more details. Webcam Tutorial (and iBSL assessment) Requirements Please refer to the Online Course Requirements for further information and to ensure smooth progression of the course and doing tutorials. To maximise the quality (speed) of tutorials, all students are asked to do the following, wherever possible: - turn off all other electrical equipment that share the broadband connection at the same time as the tutorial/assessment, especially phone devices, printers, laptops, etc, that use the wireless option this will reduce the speed of the broadband and effect the quality of the webcam session; - ensure that NO-ONE else is using the broadband at the same time as the tutorial/assessment this will reduce the speed of the broadband and effect the quality of the webcam session; have the latest version of Skype;

October 2012

- check www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk to ensure your broadband speeds are a minimum of 2000Kbps download and 500kbps upload. Anything below these figures will cause a disrupted, poor-quality tutorial session in which rearrangement of the tutorial and an administration fee may be required; be in a room that has plenty of light and not to sit in a location where a light source (day-lit window or lamp/ceiling light, etc) is behind you this would cause the face and arm movements to be very dark and difficult for the tutor/assessor to see/understand. The best locations for the light are either above and in front of you or to one side and in front of you.

Administration fees for missed tutorials/assessment planning sessions (including VAT) Administration fees take in to account the tutors/assessors time for the session and the uploading time of the recorded clip of the session on to the students account. The same would apply to any PayPal instalments having not been received at a scheduled monthly date from enrolment; the course would be put on hold until the payment is cleared.
