FDI enjoyed a lot of attention in 2012 and it even went on to becoming oppositions muscle power to pull the rug from under the governments feet. So, what was the hullabaloo all about? As far as the Indian economy is concerned, it simply means that we have not only opened our gates to foreigners, but also a right to holding a majority share in the Indian industries. So how will that affect the Indian IT scenario, you ask? Well, the Government did open multi-brand retail to foreign direct investment (FDI), but the freedom has been limited to traditional brick-and-mortar stores. Virtual stores and online e-commerce platforms are still FDIs step brothers. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotions (DIPP) says that foreign firms can just be a listing platform for brands but foreign firms that buy and sell any goods or services are still banned from conducting their activities. Till now, e-commerce companies have used the loophole of multi-tiered structuring, engaging only in B2B ecommerce and not in retail trading. For a consumer it translates to as -though Walmart is welcome to invest in India, its online arm still would face regulatory hurdles. It also means that eBay is allowed to operate lawfully but not Amazon, as it is a buyer and seller. The only reasonable reason which is-maybe Governments has a social intent. It perhaps does not want to give a leeway to online firms as e-commerce companies would not be developing any back end infrastructure. DIPP does say that e-commerce firms can invest in warehousing and back end infrastructure, which allows 100 per cent FDI. According to independent research firm Forrester, In 2011, venture capitalists invested $ 177 million in eCommerce in India.

Oracle just introduced Oracle Exalytics to provide performance and scalability with reduced deployment complexity and lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). This is the first engineered system that would help deliver high performance analysis, modeling and planning. Oracle Exalytics would therefore assist people with their projects involved in Reporting along with scenario modeling and planning and forecasting in a single environment. Oracle Exalytics can access and analyze data from Oracle or third-party data sources including IBM DB2, Netezza, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP BW, Sybase ASE, and Teradata Warehouse. This would prove to be a boon as the demand for high performance analytics is expected to accelerate further especially in data intensive industries. Christalene Soans Sec B, 2014 batch

One reason why organizations or even institutions like our very own college, does not allow social networking sites access in the workplace is the fact that employees or students spend a great deal of time updating their profiles and sites throughout the day. If every employee in a 50-strong workforce spent 30 minutes on a social networking site every day, that would work out to a loss of 6,500 hours of productivity in one year!
Infromation misuse
Increases the risk of people falling prey to online scams that seem genuine, resulting in data or identity theft.
Resources
Although updates from sites like Facebook or LinkedIn may not take up huge amounts of bandwidth, the availability of (bandwidth-hungry) video links posted on these sites creates problems for IT administrators. There is a cost to Internet browsing, especially when high levels of bandwidth are required.
Viruses and Malware
This threat is often overlooked by organizations. Hackers are attracted to social networking sites because they see the potential to commit fraud and launch spam and malware attacks. There are more than 50,000 applications available for Facebook (according to the company) and while Facebook may make every effort to provide protection against malware, these third-party applications may not all be safe.

ORKUT?
Even
though
ORKUT had the first mover advantage in social networking sites but now Facebook (FB) has almost colonized Europe and its extending its domination with more than 200 millions users. The dominance of FB can be firstly associated to its cleanliness, as it comes with a user interface that is simple, nicely bifurcated and professional which makes it a delight for even the first time user to understand and use. In order to compete with FB, ORKUT recently released theme library option using that a user can change the background theme of his/ her profile, but with that feature comes sluggish speed and sluggier performance. Games and Quizzes are another nail in the coffin for ORKUT. The games build their own loyalty and keep the users coming back for more. As atleast 200 Million people know, Farmville has been one of the biggest reasons why people logged in to FB but since the programmers sitting behind the desks at ORKUT have been sipping away on their lemonades, hence ORKUT lacks many features as compared to FB. If there are stil l some humans working on ORKUT, they need to introduce new games and quizzes which users can play and highlight their scores on their profiles, which in turn will make not only the user, but also ORKUT popular, as a social networking site. FB wins hands down with Causes and the like button feature.
Superior photo uploading technology makes it a narcissists dream but one of the more annoying things on ORKUT was Bad Bad Server, no donut for you! dialogue, which most of the user dont like and Google does not refrain from displaying. Another no-contest contest was on the security features. On FB one is able to view the profile of others only when the latter is among your connections as compared to ORKUT wherein you can view peoples profiles details, communities joined, photos, friends, etc regardless if they are a friend or not. Open scraps and profiles lead people to believing t hat there is not enough security of their the security feature contest.
Despite the fact that ORKUT was ahead of FB in the beginning but as it failed to provide new or attractive features or come up a competition for the various updated apps that FB provides - FB has more than 10,000 applications (Apps), ORKUT is nothing more than a faded memory now. Some of the applications and elements making FB a fun and the ultimate leader in the internet social networking race are as follow: FB events is an application that helps the user inform the people in the network know about the upcoming events in their group and to organize social gatherings. The application named as myORKUT connects the ORKUT profile of the user to FB profile, so that one can see his/ her ORKUT friends and read scraps right from FB without actually logging into their ORKUT account. The most recent and the last change on the FB website was URL Change. The user is able to direct others to their page through a simple link such as www.facebook.com/username rather than an otherwise complex URL. FBs Mini Feed Feature (notifications) is useful in viewing a quick snapshot on the latest happenings within the network.

The back part of this phone comes coated with elastic paint that makes it easier to touch and even reduces the risk of damage. Its neat!

LOVE Bigger Screen 4G capability Better Camera HATE Battery life still not great Maps do not show major landmarks
Build At 112g, its 20% daintier than the iPhone 4S, 16% less butch than the Samsung Galaxy S3 and 14% lighter than the HTC One X. Reducing the SIM to nano, size has helped, minutely, as has making the shell out of anodised aluminium. Features It now features a 4 inch screen, having the same width. Camera now supports panorama shoot. Retina Display with a resolution of 1136*640. 4G LTE support added. Features IOS 6. It also features A6 chip which they claim to be 2X faster. Performance Everything feels slightly slicker when navigating the phone. Apps appear to load quicker, video feels a touch smoother, video and image processing is definitely faster. With the improved A6 processor now powering the visuals, our finger points straight at it, but its with new apps that well really see the power of the chip take hold. Camera The rear iSight camera remains impressive, taking great pictures in bright conditions. Theres a bigger virtual camera capture button and video stabilisation seems to have improved. The major improvement is with the front camera, which has been upgraded to 720p video, making FaceTime and Skype chats much clearer. Still shots are captured at 1.2MP iOS 6 The iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6 as standard. Flyover, turn-by-turn navigation, Passbook, PhotoStream sharing, FaceTime over cellular, VIP Mailboxes, Facebook integration, Do Not Disturb, improved Siri, pre-determined text replies to phone calls, the list goes on.
Build There's no denying that the HTC 8X is very nice looking phone indeed. It may remind you a little of the Nokia Lumia 900 and the newer Lumia 920 as it's been designed to reflect the tile- based, colourful look of the Windows Phone OS. The tapered edges make it look and feel slimmer than it actually is, while the slick finish gives it the feel of a premium handset. Features The 8X comes with an 8MP rear snapper and a front- facing 2.1MP cam and the option for 1080p video capture on both. The phone has a 16GB built-in memory, which may sound a little on the smaller side to some, 8X also features NFC, unlike the new iPhone 5. Screen The 8X sports a 4.3-inch screen. The 720p 1280x720 resolution offers 341 ppi which is decent enough, but not quite up there with the iPhone 5's Retina display. Performance The 8X is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor. The performance is quiet impressive with the dual core processor and 1 GB RAM. Verdict The overall design shows that the brand is innovating in terms of aesthetics something that Apple seems to have slowed down on with the iPhone 5. The spec lineup is also strong - particularly the camera tech from the One range, along with the improved Beats technology.
