Learning Objectives: Students will discover the distinct nature of various poetry, (i.e. Acrostic, Alphabet, Shape/or Concrete, Definition, Five Ws, List, and Telephone poetry). State Standards Addressed: Sixth Grade: I Can Define how tone or meaning is conveyed in poetry through word choice, figurative language, sentence structure, line length, punctuation, rhythm, repetition, and rhyme. (6.f) Seventh Grade: I Can Identify idioms, analogies, metaphors, and similes in prose and poetry. Eighth Grade: I Can Determine and articulate the relationship between the purposes and characteristics of different forms of poetry.

Agenda
Summary: Students will be placed in cooperative groups (Survivor Tribes!). Tribes will select their own tribe names and start out with 10 pts. Each tribe can earn 5 points for complete participation in the daily activity. Tribes can also lose 5 points for non-participation. Survivor Tribes will each be given a specific type of poetry to study/learn, create and then present to the class. Throughout the Jigsaw activity (poem discovery) each survivor tribe will be required to select one tribe member to participate in the survivor challenge. *Challenge lesson 1 (stand on one foot) Each student will take notes on each type of poetry as it is presented by the various tribes. The winner of the survivor challenge will earn immunity for their tribe (+ 10 points for that day. Learning Activities 1. Jigsaw poetry discovery 2. Presentation of poems 3.
