Introduction: Over one billion Catholics all over the world observe today as World Mission Sunday. This annual observance was instituted 86 years ago in 1926 by a papal decree issued by Pope Pius XI. On Mission Sunday, Catholics gather to celebrate Eucharist and to contribute to a collection for the work of evangelization around the world. This annual celebration gives us a chance to reflect on the importance of mission work for the life of the Church to carrying on the mission of Christ, however different our situations may be. The Holy Fathers Mission Sunday messages: Pope Benedict XVI, in his 2006 message stressed the importance of Christian charity in action as the key note of evangelization. "All the Churches for all the World" was his 2007 theme asking churches with more vocations to help those with less vocations. In 2008 the pope encouraged everyone to take renewed awareness of the urgent need to proclaim the Gospel. In 2009 the Pope exhorted all Christians to redouble their commitment to participate in the missionary activity. In his 2010 message the Popes focus on how faith in Christ must lead Christians to build strong faith communities, which become signs for the world that it is possible for people of different races and cultures to live and thrive together. In his message for the 85th World Mission Sunday of 2011 Pope Benedict XVI reminds us that the work of evangelization involves everyone, everything, always. The theme of Pope Benedicts 2012 mission Sunday message is called to radiate the word of truth that the Lord Jesus has left us.
Rest in Peace
Our condolences to the family and friends of Alfonso Corpuz Sr. Father of Lilibeth Torralba

Stewardship of Time
Last month, I read an article about religious taxes in Germany. The country's bishops issued a decree in which registered believers must pay their religious taxes, or else be denied sacraments, including weddings, baptisms, and funerals. For example, a single person making the equivalent of around $54,000 per year would owe a yearly tax of approximately $864 (1.6%). This is a fascinating concept to me. As a member of the Finance Council here at Christ the King, I could definitely see the benefit in taxing our parishioners. Think about how much easier financial planning would be when we know exactly what our income is going to be just by counting our members. That being said, I am extremely grateful that we live in a country where this isnt the case. God loves a cheerful giver, and no one that I know is cheerful when paying their income taxes every year. We have many generous members here at Christ the King who voluntarily give more than 1.6%. If giving was treated as a tax how many members would grumble when giving? Or worse yet, how many would leave the church altogether? It is comforting to know that we will not be taxed and no one will be denied sacraments based on how much they give to the church. Everyones financial situation is different. I want to encourage you to look at your own situation. If you have not given anything for a while, start with a few dollars. Anything is better than nothing. If you give sporadically, try to make it a point to give regularly. If you already give regularly, thank you! Whatever your situation may be, and whatever amount you give, do it cheerfully! - Brian Carnahan, a member of CTKs Finance Council
A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
In todays Gospel Jesus teaches his disciples that whoever wishes to be great among them must be a servant, just as he came to be a servant. Today is World Mission Sunday a reminder of our call to be good stewards of the Gospel and to support those who make evangelization their servant ministry throughout the world. Not to be a servant of the Gospel would be poor stewardship. But how do we serve the Gospel? How do we support others who serve those who have never heard the Gospel?

To all, I would like to thank everyone for their involvement with the Festival of Faith. Your love for the Lord was shining through! I was praising the Lord for the sun shine that arrived about 12:45 and stayed with us all afternoon. I couldnt help say a prayer to Jun and John. They were not there physically but definitely there in spirit. There were so many wonderful things that took place yesterday afternoon. I ask Gods blessings on us all as we open up this Year of Faith! Blessings, Eileen Maggiore
Yeah team!
I would like to add my thanks to Eileen's. The Festival of Faith was lovely thanks to all of your help. We proved that we are truly a Faith Family as we worked together to make it a lovely day! First, thanks to our prayer committee, the day was sunny, if a bit chilly! A nice Fall day! Father Peter, Deacon Peter and Deacon Frank all participated in the festivities. The games, pony ride and face painting were a big hit with the kids. Sherry: please pass on our thanks to the volunteers from the youth group. They worked hard! Thanks to Matt for organizing the bean bag toss and to those who loaned us game boards and participated in the tournament. The food was delicious, thanks to our cooks, servers and ticket takers. Thanks to those who sold tickets for the raffle, food and pony rides. I know there was a bit of a rush but you handled it well. Thanks to the publicity team who kept reminders and articles in the bulletin and posters in the PLC and Academy so everyone knew about the festival. Thanks also to those who put together the take home bags and the collages of our parish family. We all enjoyed Connie Wilson and some of us did a great job learning Zumba! Thanks to the Logistics team and our Maintenance team for making sure we had the tents, party wagon, grills and everything we needed for set up. Thanks to those who loaned us some of those items. Thanks to all of you who helped set up and then helped clean up. Javier: please thank Victor and Tony also. I hope I have not forgotten anyone. I am so grateful for all of the work everyone did to made the Festival of Faith a success! I would love to have your feedback from the areas you worked in. What worked great for you? What could we improve on the next time? I would like to put together a retrospective to help us be even better the next time. I would love to hear your ideas and suggestions. Thanks and God Bless Kate

The Leash and Collar Living Under the Lordship of Christ Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 9:00 am in the
East Room of the Rectory The focus of week 6 is the lifestyle of discipleship with the image of being yoked to Christ (Mt 11:2830) as a model. The title of Lord is explored and offered up as a particularly fitting name and role for Jesus. Practical suggestions are given regarding how to daily live under Christs Lordship and how to be yoked to others through the Church. It is also shown that through this relationship with Jesus, Christians are transformed to become like Him.

You saw me before I was born." Psalm 139:16 (NLT) As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannahunscriptedcollapses in front of the stunned audience. After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she then learns from her parents: she was actually adopted after a failed abortion attempt. Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for her unknown future. In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah finds that life can be so much more than what you have planned. Eileen Maggiore at eileen@ctklombard.org

ELECTION MESSAGE 2012 Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A number of you have urged me to provide some guidance to the people of the Diocese of Joliet as we approach the 2012 elections. I have hesitated for two reasons. First, as a religious leader, my task is to teach doctrinal and moral truths, which do not match up with party platforms. Second, precisely because my voice is not clearly Democratic or Republican, I am doubtful that many people will listen at this particular time. I think it is better for me to fulfill my teaching office in a consistent fashion, day by day, through a variety of formats. Nevertheless, I will offer a few comments. In a democratic society ones convictions are translated into votes. For many years fewer than sixty percent of eligible Americans have voted in the Presidential elections, and fewer than forty percent have voted in other years. Catholics who are eligible to vote have a moral obligation to do so. Todays stark ideological divisions, along with bitter partisan politics, have made finding solutions to our problems difficult. There are indeed some moral issues that permit no compromise. Yet, not every issue falls into that category, and in a pluralistic society like ours some compromise at the practical level may need to be accepted, so that greater harm is not done through gridlock. Of all the issues we face, abortion is the most serious. Legalized abortion is an insult to the God who creates life and a gross injustice to the young persons whose lives are destroyed. If the right to life is not assured, then no right is safe. The basic human rights pertain to our nature as human beings; they are not the product of legislatures or courts, nor can they be taken away by the government. The Catholic Church teaches that, besides the right to life, there are other fundamental human rights which every person should enjoy. Among the most important are freedom of conscience and religion, freedom to marry and bear children according to Gods plan, access to adequate food, housing and health care, freedom to choose work that is safe and pays a just wage, and equal treatment in law and society. Bishops are not the only ones whose viewpoint begins with unchangeable truths. By virtue of baptism, all Christians, including politicians, must commit themselves to building up the Kingdom of God in the earthly realm and make concrete decisions accordingly. This is what Jesus Christ did. It is why we are given a share of the Holy Spirit. Finally, just as God alone is the source of life and salvation, so he alone can guide and strengthen us to pursue the correct paths in our political decisions. We need to pray. With that in mind, I ask the Lord to form our nation, its candidates and citizens according to his design. Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon Bishop of Joliet
