Give the advantages of P.U values. 7. Compare various solution methods for load flow problem. 8. The fuel cost for plant1 & plant 2 are given as Maximum Marks: 70

Determine the operating schedule & corresponding cost of generation if the maximum & minimum loading on each unit is 100MW & 25MW respectively. The demand is 160MW. The transmission losses are neglected. If the load is equally shared by both units, determine the saving obtained by loading the units as per equal incremental production. 9. Briefly discuss speed governing mechanism of turbo alternator. 10. List various types of faults in power system. Explain the need for short circuit studies. 11. A 2pole, 50 Hz, 11kV turbo alternator has a rating of 120MW, pf of 0.8 lagging. The rotor has a moment of inertia of 15,000 Kg m2. Calculate inertia constant, M & PU inertia constant, H.

(or) 13. For the 3 bus system shown in fig(2) the line & bus data are shown in table below in P.U. Form Ybus & compute the voltages at bus 2 & 3 at the end of first iteration. Assume flat start.

14. What is meant by economic load dispatch? Discuss the optimal load flow problem including transmission line losses with all equations. (or) 15. With the aid of block diagram explain AVR system & obtain its transfer function.

16. Derive the expression for voltages & fault currents in terms of symmetrical components for a LLG fault. (or) 17. Two 11kV, 3, 5MVA generators having a reactance of 3% & 2% respectively operate in parallel supply power through a11/220kV, 10MVA transformer having an equivalent reactance of 4%. Calculate the fault current & fault MVA for a three phase fault on the HT side of the transformer. Also calculate the fault MVA supplied by each generator.
