PROPOSAL 1: IMMEDIATE SOLUTIONS

Projecting onto the opposite wall of Grinders Hill from the o ce window. Free advertising space available now!.

Signage made by GIST user groups using existing shutter housing. Backlit and Arduino linked to activity inside.

More elaborate signage hiding the shutter housing and using downward spotlights for emphasis of the entrance.

Using the kitchen area to create a new lobby space, providing sound insulation from Grinders Hill and a meet and greet area away from any user group activity.

Creating a new entrance for the GIST Lab still hiding the shutter housing. Back lit and translucent the light from it will wash alkong the walls and steps at the entrance.

FACADE
Changes to the facade to highlight the presence of GIST ranging from the free to the expensive can be achieved. With the long narrow nature of Grinders Hill and GISTs position right in the middle of this alley the use of light is of paramount importance in creating an interest in where GIST is located. From simple projections to the oating ethereal glow of a temple entrance, creating a visually exciting, easily noticed event from Paternoster Row and Sheaf Street is the ideal.

Creatre extra natural light by scooping as much of it as falls on the facade. Brushed aluminium nish links in to the SHSU b uilding across Paternoster Road. Raised windows create privacy and o er sound insulation from Grinders Hill.

Interior now washed with di use light from the light scoops.

ADAPTABLE MODULA FURNITURE

The idea of the modula furniture that would allow for adaptable uses. Option 1 is built around the idea of a stackable module, transforming to create a chair, table and workbench. Option 2 follows a very similar concept, however the furniture is all constructure of a single L shape, making it easy to produce. In hindsight, an over engineered solution has possibly been created. a better solution could possibly be to just buy stock, stackable chairs and folding tables.

PROPOSAL 3: CHAIRS

STORAGE BOX[ES]/BOX[ES]
An easily mass producible storage solution which can be stacked and recon gured in near in nite arrangments and can provide seating and work surfaces for multiple uses. The basic unit is made up of 5 identical shapes with feet and divots added 2. A series of di erent inserts and front panels can then be manufactured to suit needs. A secondary unit, a third of the height, can be manufactured the same way to add further furniture con gurations.

PROPOSAL 4: BOXES

FLEXIBLE SPACE
Two sets of partitions of four panels each constitute the basis of this proposal. Due to space being at a premium, the number of evenings in a week being xed and the potential for increasing the number of user groups that use the space there is a need for the space to be able to be exibly reallocated to suit these purposes. Rather than attaching one end to a wall, and thereby limiting the exibile potential of the partitioned spaces, the partitions are able to be placed freely within the space working with each other or independently to create complex working areas.
