Dearly Beloved,
Dearly Beloved of God Greetings in that Great and Awesome Name of Jesus! Bible teaches us a lot about perseverance. It is a virtue of God. The Spirit of God that indwells in every believer will enable him to demonstrate this virtue as long as he walks in the ways of God. For in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9) Great men of old and present have demonstrated this virtue quite remarkably. Sometimes the circumstances and events that led to greatness in that person took place in the hidden years when few were looking and no one cared. That is certainly true of Americas 16th and most probably the greatest president, Abraham Lincoln. His life is an example to us all as to how his perseverance took him to the high office of President of America. Most would conclude that the office of President of America would be a fitting climax to an already prestigious life. After all anyone who aspire to become a President would have born with silver spoon in his mouth as it were. But not so with Abraham Lincoln. Charles Swindoll , writing of great men of the Bible wrote of Lincoln as follows:Lincoln was born in 1809 in a primitive log cabin in the State of Kentucky. His father was an illiterate, wandering labourer, his mother a frail and sickly woman. They were forced out of their home when Lincoln was 7 years old. His poor mother died when he was only 9 years. He had virtually no formal schooling. He first attempted a career in business in 1831 and failed miserably. A year later he ran for state legislature unsuccessfully. The same year he lost his job and applied to law school but was laughed out of consideration because of his miserable qualifications. Not long after that, he started another business using money he borrowed from a close friend. Before the year closed the business failed and Lincoln claimed bankruptcy and spent the next 17 years paying off that debt. In 1835 he fell deeply in love with Anne Rutledge, only to have his heart broken when she died soon after their engagement. The following year he had a complete nervous breakdown spent the next 6 months in bed recovering. In 1838 he sought to become speaker of the state legislature and was defeated. In 1840 ,two years later, he sought to become the elector of the state, and was defeated. 3 years later he ran for Congress and lost. In 1846 he ran again for Congress and won. Only 2 years later he ran for re-election and was soundly defeated. In 1849 he sought the job of land officer in his home state but was rejected. In 1854 he ran for the Senate of the

United States. Again, he lost. In 1856 he sought vice-presidential nomination at his partys national convention. He got less than 100 votes, suffering yet another embarrassing defeat. In 1858 he ran for United States Senate and lost again. Finally in 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected to the Presidency of United States, and soon after endured the most devastating civil war US has ever experienced. His perseverance rewarded him with unprecedented political success, and he was elected for a second term in office. Sadly only 5 days later on 14th April 1865 he was assassinated. He was dead before reaching 60 years. What caused Lincoln to persevere? It was his faith in God. Lincoln had put his trust and faith in God who ultimately rewarded him with the highest office America can offer. In spite of the several setbacks he had to endure in his life, God used Lincoln to abolish slavery in America. Is it any wonder that he is rated as one of the greatest presidents of the United States of America? Dearly beloved, are you experiencing failure after failure in your life. Then take note from Lincolns lifes experience, to have faith in God and continue to persevere as he did. God who is faithful and able will make things happen. Many times we give up without persevering our goals. May be God is teaching us a lesson by making us go through our failures. But, God who loves us, will always answer our prayers in his time and turn our failures to our ultimate success for his name sake. Blessings.

HAVE THINE OWN WAY, LORD (Article sent by Pastor Srikanthan)

An elderly woman at a prayer meeting one night pleaded it really doesnt matter what you do with us, Lord, just have your way with our lives. At this meeting was Adelaide Pollard a well known itinerant Bible teacher, who was deeply discouraged because she had been unable to raise the necessary funds for a desired trip to Africa to do missionary service. She was moved by the older womans sincere and dedicated request of God. At home that evening Miss. Pollard meditated on Jeremiah 18:3-4.
Then I went down to the potters house, and behold, he wrought a work on the wheels, and the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

Before retiring that evening, Adelaide Pollard completed the writing of all four stanzas of this hymns as it is sung today. This hymn first appeared in published form in 1907. Often into our lives come discouragements and heartaches that we cannot understand. As children of God, however, we must learn never to question the ways of our sovereign God- but simply say, Have Thine own way Lord. (Taken from the writings of Kenneth W.Osbeck)
