Dissertation

Prepare for dissertation defense in May 2013

Complete a draft of the entire dissertation by the end of the fall semester. (Get it picture-ready.) Revise a portion of one dissertation chapter to fit an appropriate length and scope in the early fall.

Write a minimum of an hour daily. Review committee members comments on initial drafts. Review recent journals to find a good potential home for my work. Research individual journals specific submission guidelines and timelines for turn-around. Read Karen Thornburs Ecoambiguity: Environmental Crises and East Asian Literatures Review Thornburs bibliography Review notes from and student feedback about team-teaching last fall. Write clear guidelines for student expectations to help ensure a productive experience for all involved. Check MLA and Chronicle listings every Friday. Designate at least every Friday and Sunday as my days to search for and apply to jobs.

Publishing

Research

Submit two articles for consideration this academic year. Also prepare a sample of translated poetry for consideration at Kaya Press. Research ecocriticism of East Asian narratives for future article (based on past conference paper) Create more collaborative learning situations in which I am more actively and thoughtfully partnering with students. Conduct a full-scale search for academic jobs beginning this August.
