LOCAL OFFICIALS PAY TRIBUTE TO DISTINGUISHED VETERANS

TROY Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino was joined by other county as well as state and federal officials at the American Legion Post in Wynantskill on Sunday, November 4th at a medal presentation ceremony to honor thirteen veterans who served their country as members of the United States Military in many cases during World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War. Throughout our nations history the men and women of our Armed Forces have answered the call to duty and defended our rights, freedoms, and way of life, said Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino. It is truly an honor to be able to express our gratitude and appreciation for their service and sacrifices and which recognizes their selfless actions on behalf of us all. A number of military personnel returning from active duty in, especially but not limited to, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, never formally received the honor and recognition they earned through their service in the Nations armed forces. Recognizing this, in recent years local medal ceremonies have been organized primarily through the efforts of County Executive Jimino and the Countys Veterans Service Agency. These ceremonies provide local veterans, their families, friends, and colleagues the opportunity to participate in the formal presentation ceremony in which veterans, some of whom are deceased are honored.
