Introduction
Overview
The ADC6800+A4BC Analog-to-Digital Converters with Delay handle four-channel A-to-D conversion applications. The ADS6800+A4BC modules are audio delay synchronizers that are often used for solving timing problems within a facility (for example, integrating a non-synchronous digital island or compensating for fixed or variable path delays). For added audio capabilities such as audio-tracking delay and hot-switching, you can use ADS6800+A4BC in combination with other 6800+ product modules (such as the DES6800+, ENS6800+, and VFS6800+). The ADS6800+A4BC module handles four-channel applications. The following topics are described in this chapter: Product Description on page 2 Module Descriptions on page 4 Signal Flow on page 7

Chapter 2: Installation
Firmware upgrading is a routine procedure that you must perform to install newer versions of software on 6800+ modules. Pilot, Co-Pilot, or Navigator software version 3.1.1 or later is required for this procedure. The frame must contain or be connected to another frame that contains an ICE6800+ module. When performing the upgrading procedure, check the appropriate readme file to confirm which files are needed. Use care to ensure that you upload the correct files to the intended module. In the unlikely event that the upgrade fails, the module may not respond to controls and will appear to be non-functional. In that event, follow the procedures described in Correcting a Failed Upgrade Procedure on page 25.

Operation
Overview
This chapter describes ADC6800+A4BC and ADS6800+A4BC module operation, processing, and parameters, including the following topics: Operating Notes on page 28 Changing Parameter Settings on page 30 Setting ADC/ADS6800+A4BC Control Parameters on page 32 LEDs and Alarms on page 39
See your FR6802+ Frame Installation and Operation Manual for a description of generic card-edge controls (such as toggle and rotary/hex switches). For information on how to operate this product remotely, see these documents: +Pilot Lite User Manual for serial interface CCS Pilot, CoPilot, Navigator, or RCP-CCS-1U Remote Control Panel manual for Ethernet interface
27
Chapter 3: Operation
Operating Notes
When setting the control parameters on the ADC/ADS6800+A4BC, observe the following: When you change a parameter, the effect is immediate. However, the module requires up to 20 seconds to save the latest change. After 20 seconds, the new settings are saved and will be restored if the module loses power and must be restarted. You can connect up to four ADS6800+A4BC modules to a single data I/O chain using a maximum cable length of 984 ft (300 m). T-connectors are recommended. When reference video is applied to the module, expect a momentary audio disruption due to the locking process. For AES11 compliance in 525 mode, the ADC6800+A4BC and ADS6800+A4BC modules require the presence of a DARS signal locked to the reference video. Ensure that the DARS input on the back connector (either balanced or unbalanced) is connected to the appropriate source. A DARS signal is not required for AES11 compliance in 625 mode. Note the following Tone frequencies: Tone 1: 750 Hz Tone 2: 1500 Hz Tone 3: 3000 Hz Tone 4: 6000 Hz
Delay control is not applicable when a tone is selected as a source for an output channel. To achieve AES11 compliance, you must select only valid Lock Mode and Lock Source parameter options. Valid parameters for Lock Mode are Delay and Sync. Valid parameters for Lock Source are DARS and Genlock w/ DARS.
Note
Before you select Genlock w/DARS, both the Genlock and DARS signals must be locked together.
If you select Freerun as the Lock Mode, or Genlock as the Lock Source, you will not achieve AES11 compliance. See Bank 0 on page 32 to select Lock Mode and Lock Source.
28
Chapter 3: Operation
The LED display mode (selected in Bank 3) is not saved through power cycles like other parameters. The module always powers up to display General Status. See Bank 3 on page 36 to select an LED display mode.
