Description Application The Power Supply Unit, Type 119 -- 023, is used where an uninterruptible power supply for 24 VDC loads is required. In case of failure of the AC input voltage -- which is connected into 24VDC via a power module -- , automatic change--over of the device to the shipborne 24 VDC emergency supply takes place; and, simultaneously, an alarm signal Power fail is offered via a floating contact.

Construction (see Fig. 3--2) The power supply module and the components for automatic change--over have been mounted on a mounting plate. Change--over is ensured by: -- a relay K1 -- a resistor R2 -- a capacitor C1 The mounting plate is mounted in a casing made of steel sheet and intended for bulkhead mounting. The bottom side of the casing carries cable entries and a ground connection. Laterally mounted vent slots ensure heat dissipation. The power supply module contains two PCBs: -- input and output assemblies incl. voltage monitoring (P402) -- generator with the current limiter (P401) Via a 15--pole connector, the AC voltage is fed to the power supply module, and the 24VDC voltage is fed from the power supply module via the change--over components and the fuses to the loads. Close to the connector -- on the PCB P402 -- a fuse (F101) has been arranged.

Principle of Operation (see Fig. 3--3 and Dimensional Drawing 119 D 023.HP005) The applied ships mains voltage 115V or 230V 60Hz resp. is fed via a fuse (coarse) (F101) in the power supply module to a bridge rectifier. After the voltage has been smoothed and after passing through the EMC filter, the voltage is fed to the clock generator. Here, the DC voltage is converted into a square wave voltage which is fed to the primary winding of a transformer. The voltage induced in the secondary winding is rectified and, subsequently, charges storage capacitors for smoothing the voltage. Via an EMC filter, the current is fed to the output terminals.

Power Supply Unit -- Block Diagram

With failure of the ships mains, the relay RY101 in the power supply module drops out. By this the relay K1 drops out also and changes over the supply for the connected devices to the 24 VDC emergency supply. The capacitor C1 prevents voltage drops during change--over operations.
