Dodgeball

Players/Game: Each game will be played as a 3 minute, 5 vs 5, first to win 2 out of 3 match. Each team requires at least 4 people on the court to play. Coed will require the teams to have at least 2 girls. ALL FIVE PLAYERS NEED TO BE ON THE COURT TO START THE GAME. You will have to forfeit if the team does not show up within 5 minutes once called. General Rules: Courts will be marked with two opposing starting lines. The center line that is parallel to the starting lines marks the center boundary. Two dotted lines of equal distance from the center parallel to the center lines are the kill lines. Live Ball: Any ball that can cause an out when thrown or caught. Dead Ball: Any ball that can no longer cause an out. Initial Dash: All players will first begin the match lying down BEHIND their respective starting line. The referee will then check that both teams are ready and begin countdown for the start of the match. Any false starts will result in resetting the players and the countdown. A teams 3rd offense will result in a loss of one player for that match. Boundaries and Kill Lines: Once the match has started, players will race to the center to grab dodgeballs. There will be 4 dodgeballs lined along the center boundary. If any part of a player COMPLETELY crosses any boundary, they will be called out. Once a player has grabbed a dodgeball, the ball must be returned to their sides kill line in order for the ball to become live. Live and Dead Balls: Once all the balls have crossed the kill lines at the beginning of the game, they no longer have to be returned to the kill lines to be thrown. There are many situations for live/dead balls, the following are the most frequently occurring. Scoring and out: Hitting an opposing player with a thrown ball or catching an opposing players thrown ball results in an out. Players may NOT kick the ball. Blocking: If you block a thrown ball with one that you are holding, the thrown ball immediately becomes dead. If a thrown ball hits your hands/arms while you are blocking with a ball, you are STILL out. If the ball you are holding is knocked out of your hands, you are considered hit and you are out

Catching: This is considered a firm non-questionable grasp of the ball. If a ball bounces off of you and you then catch it before it contacts another surface, it will be considered a catch. But if a player catches a ball that has bounced off of a teammate, it will not count as a catch and the person hit is still out. If you block a thrown ball with your own ball, and the rebounded ball is caught, its is considered dead and nobody is out. Any questionable catch will be decided by a referee. Suicide: This occurs when a player jumps over the center boundary without stepping over the line and throws a ball in mid-air before landing. If an opposing player is hit, he/she is out as well as the attacking player. Catching a ball DOES NOT result in a player coming back into play. A thrown ball may only get ONE person out, there are no multi-kills. A headshot is not counted as a kill and both players remain in the game.

Stalling: If a team is in possession of all of the dodgeballs, they will have a 10second count to either attack or to roll a ball over to the opponents. The ball rolled to the opponents must be significant enough to make it to the opposite starting line. If a team is penalized for stalling at the end of the 10 second count, they will be required to roll all the dodgeballs to the opposing team. Sudden Death: After two minutes have passed, the referee will announce Sudden Death for the remaining minute. During this time, the teams will be allowed to cross the center boundary to the opponents kill line. Sudden death does not end until all players of one of the teams are eliminated. All Kill: If in the event that there are an even number of players from each team left on the court after sudden death is called, the referee will announce All Kill and the players can cross the opponents kill line. Tie: At the end of the game, if there is STILL an even number of players from each team, the game will restart at 1 minute. \ Referees and Stray Dodgeballs: We will have referees to oversee each match, please mind that they are volunteers and they will make fair, unbiased calls to the best of their ability. We will also have volunteers grab dodgeballs that roll outside of boundaries. These will then be handed to referees and they will roll the dodgeballs down the center boundary. If you leave the court and step outside of a boundary at any point even to grab a stray dodgeball, you are out. Teammates that are out may NOT grab and roll stray dodgeballs for their team.
