Prerequisites
Before you install GeoDrive, make sure that your computer meets these minimum requirements:
Your Windows computer is running one of these operating systems: Windows XP SP3 (32 bit only) Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later (x64 and x86) Windows Vista SP1 or later (x64 and x86) Windows Server 2008 (x64 and x86) Windows 7 (x64 and x86) Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64)
Note: Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Help->About Windows to display the operating system and service pack (SP) of your computer if you are unsure about which version of Windows your computer is running.
You have the correct version of GeoDrive software (either 32-bit or 64-bit) based on your computer operating system: GeoDrive.1.0.SP4.exe (32-bit) GeoDrive.1.0.SP4_x64.exe (64-bit)
You have administrative privileges on the Windows computer where you want to install GeoDrive. Your Service Provider gives you with the following information: An Atmos subtenant ID, UID, and shared secret. One or more IP addresses or resolvable hostnames for the Atmos system you will access. The proxy server IP address and port, and a username and password if you are required to use a proxy server by your Service Provider.

Best Practices
This section provides recommendations for using GeoDrive in your home or office environment.
GeoDrive is optimized for sending small to medium size files (of less than 4 Gigabytes) to the cloud. Placing large files in the cloud may require very long upload and download times based on your network speed. GeoDrive can be installed on multiple systems using the same credentials. This means that the files you upload to the cloud can be viewed (and edited or deleted) on any system with the same GeoDrive credentials. As a best practice, manage your cloud environment so that users are not accessing the same files at the same time. This reduces the risk of one user overwriting another user's changes. Exclude GeoDrive from your Windows backups. Attempting to run applications such as .exe (executable) files from within the GeoDrive is not supported. Pointing a database/SQL application to a GeoDrive is not supported. Do not enable the Windows Indexing Service on a GeoDrive folder.
Prerequisites

6. To continue the GeoDrive setup, choose I accept the terms of the license agreement, then click Next. The setup wizard exits if you do not accept the license agreement. GeoDrive requires two folders on your computer.
13
7. Accept the defaults or fill in the fields as follows, then click Next:
Table 1
GeoDrive folder descriptions Field Install EMC Atmos GeoDrive to: What to enter The path to the local Windows folder where you install the GeoDrive software. Click Change to select a different location. The path to the local Windows folder that contains file used internally by GeoDrive and also used as the default directory for data copied to and from Atmos. Click Change to select a different location.
Data Directory:
8. Click Install. The wizard begins installation of GeoDrive. This may take several minutes. The Setup Wizard Completed screen appears. 9. Click Finish.
14
10. A GeoDrive Console (and the GeoDrive Parameters dialog) should open, if not, click Start > Programs > EMC Atmos GeoDrive to open the Console on your desktop. Proceed to Step 2: Configuring the GeoDrive folder.
15
2. Click Next to accept the default GeoDrive parameters and then skip to Step 6 on page 18 or proceed to step 3 to customize the parameters for your system if required.
16
3. Fill in the fields as follows based on recommendations from your Service Provider:
Table 2
GeoDrive parameter options Field GeoDrive Description What to do. . . Select any available Windows drive letter from the dropdown window to use as the GeoDrive. Enter a description that will help you remember this drives use (Cloud_Drive for example).
Local Storage Options Mirror Mode GeoDrive can operate in either Mirror Mode or push-to-cloud (stub) mode. Selecting this box causes GeoDrive to operate in Mirror Mode. Mirror Mode: The files are stored on both the local system and the Atmos cloud. This mode requires that the local file system have more available space. Push-to-cloud mode: This is the default mode. When Mirror Mode is not selected, the files you placed on the GeoDrive are pushed to the Atmos cloud after a period of inactivity and replaced with a shortcut (called a stub) on the local machine that knows how to retrieve the data from the cloud. This mode does not require as much space on the local file system, but it might mean that there is a delay when accessing files, or that some files might be temporarily unavailable if the network connection to the cloud is lost.
4. Click Next. 5. The Settings dialog appears. Proceed to step 6 on page 18 to configure the cloud host for this GeoDrive.
17
Host settings description What to supply. . . Displays the drive that you mapped in the previous steps. Select the cloud host to which to map this GeoDrive. The dropdown menu displays the hosts that you configure in Step 3: Configuring the Atmos cloud storage system. By default this is populated with the User ID (UID) from your Service Provider that you entered when you configured the cloud host. If you have multiple systems using GeoDrive, all writing data to the same Atmos system under the same UID, you might want to customize this name to differentiate between your computers (laptop or workstation, for example) Check this box if you intend to encrypt your files. You will need to provide a passphrase in the Encryption Passphrase field (see below).
Encrypt Files
18
Table 3
Host settings description (continued) What to supply. . . Leave this field blank unless you intend to encrypt your files. If you choose to encrypt your files, the passphrase must be between 3 and 64 characters and cannot contain spaces. Note: This phrase cannot be modified once created and must be the same on each system accessing the cloud with the same user ID (UID). Write this phrase down and place it in a secure location for use if you ever need to add GeoDrive to another system. You will not be able to access your files without it. Use the slide bar to control the amount of compression. File compression may save space but it may also increase the processing time per file. If encryption is also selected, the compression is performed before the data is encrypted. By default, the compression level is set to 1, on a scale of 0 (no compression) to 8 (maximum compression).
Compress Files
7. In some situations your Service Provider may suggest that you modify GeoDrive settings that control the frequency and speed at which files are transferred to the cloud. If you do not need to modify the advanced settings, click Next and proceed to step 6 on page 18. If you do need to check or modify these settings, click Advanced. The Advanced Options dialog displays.
19
Your Service Provider can provide guidance on changing these values as required. The following table describes each field and its use:
Table 4
Local Cache Location Specifies the location on the local machine where the local files are stored. This folder is synchronized with the cloud. If the GeoDrive is configured for Mirror Mode this location requires enough space to support the set of files you want to store in the Atmos cloud. The default location for this folder varies based on your Windows operating system. Modify Wait Time Delay after file is closed before uploading it to the cloud. Default = 1 minute. Specifies the amount of time that GeoDrive waits after you modify a local file before it updates the cloud with your changes. Access Wait Time How long to wait before replacing local file with a stub (not used in Mirror Mode). Default = 1 day. Specifies the amount of time after a file is last accessed before it is replaced with a stub on the local file system. Access Wait TIme must be greater than Modify Wait Time. This setting is ignored if the GeoDrive is in Mirror Mode. Update Wait Time How long to wait before checking the cloud for updated content. Default = 1 day. Specifies the amount of time that the GeoDrive waits to check if a file or directory was updated on the cloud via another source. If a change or addition is found in Atmos that does not exist locally, the local information is updated. Modifying this setting may be useful if you are accessing Atmos via different systems or access methods, but is not applicable to a single user using a single computer to access their data. Open Wait Time Maximum time to wait for a file to close before uploading a copy to the cloud. Default = 1 hour. Specifies the maximum time to wait for a file to close before GeoDrive uploads a copy of the file to the cloud. If the file does not close within this time period, the open file is uploaded to the cloud.
8. If you are accepting the defaults, click Cancel to exit the dialog without making changes or click OK after making changes and then click Next. 9. Click Finish and proceed to Step 3: Configuring the Atmos cloud storage system.

Server details description Field Atmos Server Name Description Subtenant ID User ID Shared Secret Enable Throttling What to do. . . Enter a descriptive name to help you identify which cloud host this configuration represents. Enter an optional description of the cloud host. Enter the 32 character Subtenant ID supplied by your Service Provider. Enter the User ID (UID) supplied by your Service Provider. Enter the 29 character shared secret supplied by your Service Provider. (Optional) Throttling limits the speed at which data is sent to and from the cloud. If throttling is disabled, data is sent and received as quickly as possible. You may want to enable throttling if GeoDrive is using all available bandwidth and Internet access for other applications becomes too slow. If you enabled throttling, enter an upper limit to the download speed in kilobytes per second. If you enabled throttling, enter an upper limit to the upload speed in kilobytes per second. Choose either HTTPS or HTTP from the dropdown. Your Service Provider will tell you which one to select. (Optional) Allows you to configure which ports are used for HTTP / HTTPS instead of utilizing the default settings (HTTP = 80; HTTPS = 443). Typically, this field remains blank. If your Service Provider supplied you with proxy server information, click this button to configure GeoDrive to communicate with the cloud through a proxy server. The proxy server IP address and port, and the username and password that you use to access the network are required. If you currently are using a proxy server, click Import to import the proxy server address and port information from your system. You will still need to provide your username and password.

Table 5
Server details description Field Host Name/IP What to do. . . Enter one or more IP addresses or resolvable host names of the target Atmos system. If HTTPS is selected this field must contain a host name, not an IP address. This information is supplied by your Service Provider. Click <<Add. Use the Test button to test the connection between the GeoDrive host and the cloud. In the case of HTTPS, if the Atmos certificate is not signed by a well-known Certificate Authority, clicking Test presents the certificate details to the user and gives the user the option of installing that certificate into the Trusted Certificate Authority store. After installing the certificate, clicking Test again should succeed. The user should click Install only if the certificate indicates it is the correct server. If you get an error message, proceed to Troubleshooting your GeoDrive on page 30.
Test
Your server details dialog should look similar to the figure below (except that it will show the values you supplied):
24
5. Click OK. The entry you just completed now displays in the Atmos Hosts dialog.
6. Verify that the values are accurate, highlight the entry and then click Select. 7. The Settings dialog reappears. Use the dropdown menu to select the correct host.
25
Repeat this procedure for each cloud host that your Service Provider instructed you to set up. For example, if you have multiple accounts with your cloud storage provider, you may have to create more than one cloud host definition for the same set of servers, each with a different UID and Shared Secret. If so, this information is provided by your Service Provider. 8. Optionally you can add a shortcut to your desktop for the GeoDrive folder. This is the location where you place and retrieve the files you send to the cloud. Add a shortcut as follows: 1. From your desktop or Start menu, click My Computer, right-click on the drive you assigned as your GeoDrive, and select Create Shortcut. 2. A dialog opens that asks if you want to place the shortcut on your desktop, click Yes. You can now click on the desktop shortcut to open the drive folder where you place the files you send to the cloud. 9. Proceed to Step 4: Testing your configuration on page 27 to test the connection between GeoDrive and the cloud.
26
27
Complete the following simple tests to verify your configuration: 1. Open your GeoDrive (from My Computer or click the GeoDrive shortcut on your desktop if you created a shortcut to the drive). 2. Copy several files into the folder. Based on your settings and connection speed you should see a blue bar in the Bytes Sent graph in the GeoDrive Activity window and eventually the files you placed in the GeoDrive folder should appear in the GeoDrive Console Message window as uploaded to the cloud.
3. If the upload was successful, the GeoDrive is functioning correctly. If the upload was unsuccessful, proceed to Troubleshooting your GeoDrive on page 30.

GeoDrive issues and their resolution Cause Possible Resolution Check the cloud host settings (subtenant ID, user ID, IP address, and shared secret) to make sure they are correct (see Step 3: Configuring the Atmos cloud storage system on page 21)
GeoDrive Issue
Clicking the TEST button Incorrect server configuration during server configuration settings generates an error message.
Incorrect proxy server settings. If your Service Provider required you to use a proxy server, verify the proxy server settings (refer to Table 5 on page 23 for a description of the settings). You are using HTTPS and GeoDrive and the Atmos host do not share a valid SSL certificate. Red Icon No network connection. Missing or incorrect GeoDrive configuration settings. Refer to Configuring SSL certificates on page 37.
GeoDrive does not have a connection to the cloud. Check your network connectivity (is your browser working?). Check the cloud host settings (subtenant ID, user ID, IP address, and shared secret) to make sure they are correct (see Step 3: Configuring the Atmos cloud storage system on page 21). For example, check for an extra space after the subtenant ID or shared secret. If your computer has the incorrect time, it will not be able to synchronize with the cloud host. Contact your Service Provider to resolve this issue. GeoDrive will continue to attempt to upload the file on the Atmos host. If it is unable to complete the upload, eventually a File cannot be uploaded to cloud server. Upload retries are exhausted message displays (refer to the following row in this table for details). This may be a temporary cloud host issue. Restart the Atmos GeoDrive Service (Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, right click Atmos GeoDrive Service, and select Restart). If GeoDrive again generates this error, contact your Service Provider to resolve this issue. Close the GeoDrive folder and reopen it. Check the advanced settings (refer toTable 4 on page 20). The how long to wait before checking the cloud for updated content setting may need to be set to a lower time period (by default it is 1 day).
The computer does not have the correct time. GeoDrive status pane displays error creating file in Atmos server. There may be a temporary issue with the GeoDrive connection to the Atmos host or with the Atmos host itself. GeoDrives repeated attempts to upload files to the cloud failed.
GeoDrive status pane displays File cannot be uploaded to cloud server. Upload retries are exhausted. You do not see files in your GeoDrive that were uploaded to the Cloud via another GeoDrive, even after waiting an extended time period.
The GeoDrive folder has not refreshed. The default update time is set too high.
31
Table 6
GeoDrive issues and their resolution (continued) Cause Your cloud host does not support unicode characters in folder or file names. Delay after file is closed before uploading to the cloud setting is too high a value. You created an empty folder and never placed a file in it. The F5 command refreshes files in folders on your local drive, but does not refresh the GeoDrive files stored in the cloud. A file originally saved as a stub in the GeoDrive folder will not appear as a local copy until the file is accessed again. GeoDrive displays the original size of the files, even after they are compressed, encrypted, and stubbed. The GeoDrive service may have failed to start or is stopped. Possible Resolution Check with your service provider to ensure that your cloud host supports unicode characters. If not, use only standard Latin characters in your folder and filenames. Refer to the EMC GeoDrive Release Notes for supported platforms. Check the advanced settings (refer to Table 4 on page 20). The delay after file is closed before uploading to the cloud setting may be set higher than you desire. GeoDrive discards empty folders after a period of time. Placing a file inside a folder ensures that the folder will be updated to the Atmos cloud and not deleted. Close and reopen the GeoDrive folder to refresh the view.
Files placed on your GeoDrive are not on your Atmos server. Folders created in GeoDrive disappear. You clicked F5 (refresh) but your GeoDrive view did not refresh.
You changed your configuration setting to Mirror mode but the files are still showing as stubs. Files sizes displayed in GeoDrive stay the same even if you compress the files. Your GeoDrive Console is running, but you don't see your GeoDrive listed and none of the icons are active.
After enabling mirror mode on the GeoDrive folder, pre-existing files that were stubbed will not be mirrored until they are accessed again. You can access a file by double-clicking on the stub to open it. The file is now saved in mirror mode. This is normal behavior for GeoDrive. You always see the original size of the file, even if it was compressed, or if a stub replaced the file in the GeoDrive folder (refer to Table 2 on page 17). Restart the Atmos GeoDrive Service (Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, right click Atmos GeoDrive Service, and select Restart).
32
Upgrading GeoDrive
Use the following procedure to upgrade GeoDrive. 1. Ensure that the GeoDrive console and the GeoDrive Activity Monitor are closed on the computer being upgraded and that all open files in the GeoDrive are closed.
Note: A reboot of the system may be required if GeoDrive is not closed before running the upgrade wizard.
2. Save the new GeoDrive executable file (.exe) to your computer. 3. Double-click the GeoDrive executable file. The upgrade wizard starts. 4. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade. 5. Windows may require a reboot after the upgrade completes. Once the upgrade completes, your cloud access is restored with the same configuration settings as your previous GeoDrive version.
Upgrading GeoDrive
33
Uninstalling GeoDrive
Before uninstalling GeoDrive, you must ensure that any files sent to the cloud are properly saved so you can access them after the application is uninstalled. These files can be saved either locally or in the cloud if you have an alternate method for accessing them (from another computer running GeoDrive for example).
34
Uninstalling GeoDrive
Once you have saved your files, complete the following steps to uninstall GeoDrive: 1. Open Add/Remove Programs (Start > Settings > Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs). 2. Select EMC Atmos GeoDrive and click Remove. The program is removed from your computer. 3. Close Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel. 4. Delete the shortcut to the GeoDrive folder from your desktop (if you created one) by dragging it to your Recycle folder. 5. Windows may require a reboot after the uninstall completes.
Uninstalling GeoDrive
35
File Recovery
This section provides steps for recovering the files you placed in the cloud if your computer fails and you can no longer access your GeoDrive. If your computer fails you can easily recover your files by re-installing GeoDrive on another system using exactly the same credentials you used in the initial installation. Those credentials were provided by your Service Provider and include:
SubtenantID Host User ID (UID) Shared Secret Atmos root directory (by default the Host User ID (UID) is used as the name of the directory) Host names or IP address(es) The exact passphrase you created if you implemented encryption when you installed GeoDrive The Atmos root directory if you changed it from the default setting that used the host UID as the name of the directory.
Proceed with the new GeoDrive installation starting with Prerequisites on page 10. Once you complete the installation, you will have full access to the files you placed in the cloud.

GeoDrive 12175 security error messages Resolution Re-try the Test, and if it fails, contact your Service Provider. Contact your Service Provider. Contact your Service Provider. Use the procedure outlined in Install the Atmos certificate below. Verify the host name you entered in the host/IP field.
Error message Certification revocation checking has been enabled, but the revocation check failed to verify whether a certificate has been revoked. The server used to check for revocation might be unreachable. SSL certificate is invalid. SSL certificate was revoked. The function is unfamiliar with the Certificate Authority that generated the server's certificate. SSL certificate common name (host name field) is incorrect, for example, if you entered www.microsoft.com and the common name on the certificate says www.msn.com. SSL certificate date that was received from the server is bad. The certificate is expired. The application experienced an internal error loading the SSL libraries.
38
2. Verify that the host name is the same as the name supplied by your Service Provider and that you entered in the host/IP field during server configuration (refer to Table 5 on page 23). If not, confirm the correct name with your Service Provider before continuing. If necessary, delete the incorrect host name, enter the correct name in the Host/IP field, click Add, and then click Test. 3. If a success dialog appears, you have completed this procedure and you should now have connectivity with the cloud (a green icon on the GeoDrive main page). 4. If you receive the same error message again, click Install. GeoDrive installs the SSL certificate on your local system and a success message displays.
5. Click OK; you should now have a secure connection with the Atmos host signified by a green icon on the GeoDrive main page.
