A survey, recently released by Harvard University reported that the United States ranks 25th in math and 17th in science. General Motors is working to change that. On our website, we have an entire curriculum for students of all ages, with the goal of sparking an interest in the technology and science that will better this company and ultimately the planet. We want the future generations to use these free resources to stimulate a fire for knowledge and learning at a young age. Studies have shown that when you push a student to continue learning when theyre not in school, theyll ultimately succeed in the classroom as well. For high school students hoping to pursue college, GM supports organizations such as For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), that hosts competitions nationwide in those fields of study. The 21st century will be built upon the push for modern technology and advanced engineering for sustainable and affordable resources. FIRST and other similar organizations reward the students trying to enter those fields by offering scholarships and national recognition for achievements. We also offer scholarships of our own. Again, General Motors is committed to investing in the success of our future, not just for the sake our company, but for the planet as well. Last year, Buick Achievers scholarship program awarded over 4.5 million dollars in college scholarships to students interested in pursuing careers in sustainability and engineering all around the country. Daniel Akerson, CEO of GM believes the future of the company, country and planet relies on our generation, my generation, making a conscious effort to give the young people of today the power to succeed tomorrow. -More-

In our opinion, Americas children are the best investment we can make. In classrooms around the country sit General Motors next engineers, advertisers and possibly the next CEO. Its our job to make sure theyre prepared. ###
