Hannah Sharpless Professor Jan Rieman English 1101 Due November 14, 2012 WTE: Writing Log Writing

is used in almost every aspect of our lives. We use it in so many different ways, formally to informally. The style of writing you use is greatly impacted by what kind of writing you are doing, as in, what you are doing this writing for. Over the past few days Ive found that I use writing for more than I expected. Writing plays a very significant role in my life, despite the fact that I hate it in certain forms. Without writing I feel as though I wouldnt make it through the day because of the lack of communication I would feel. Being in an academic setting on a daily basis brings about the majority of formal writing that I do. My writing is much lengthier, and highly grammar associated when writing in English especially. I found that for my past couple assignments due in English over the course of this week, I planned out my writing before diving into the assignments. These two assignments happened to be papers, one being the current WTE Im writing. I wrote them both completely out in my notebook before converting the works into Microsoft Word. The first assignment I worked on was the personal version of Students Right to Their Own Language. For this work, I did a detailed organizational scheme on Word along with the handwriting out of the essay. I chose to do this chart because this was a much longer

assignment than I was used to and involved several parts. The organizational chart was written in a more relaxed tone and consisted of bullet points and questions I wanted answered throughout my essay. Even though I hate to write, going through these steps prior to typing really helped me gather my thoughts and make the paper more organized. The language for the final typed version of this assignment was written in Standard American English/Edited American English. This style was very different from my organizational scheme because I considered the difference in my audience. The organizational scheme was for only my benefit and reading, whereas the final typed draft was for my professors and classmates and required a more formal, organized structure. Another form of writing I did a great deal of over the course of the four days was texting. This style was extremely different than that of my English papers. I wrote in a completely different dialect, also differing depending on who my text was to. Through texts, I write in a very relaxed form which includes a lot of slang and improper grammar. My tweets and Facebook posts also consisted of a very similar dialect. Writing I did for other classes mainly consisted of notes. These notes were written a bit more proper and were in an organized form for easy understanding. I mostly copy verbatim what the teacher writes, so this also impacts the style of writing. My writing styles differ greatly, depending on the audience, assignment, and setting, among other things. Regardless of how you write, writing is always around us and greatly used!
