admits. “The local folks are extremely
happy that this happened.
“What’s interesting is usually, when
you do projects like this where there’s a
lot of traffic, you may not see the sup-
port, but people expressing their dissatis-
faction,” he explains. “Here, that is just
not the case.
“We’ve had great support from the
neighborhood group, the Buckhead
Coalition,” he continues. “They know, at the
end of the day, the challenges they face
before [them] will be gone.”
‘Critical Team Members’
Balfour Beatty also has enjoyed working
with Atlanta-based subcontractors, Pritchett
says.
“Most of us have worked with these
subcontractors over the years and they
are critical team members,” he says.
Macon notes that some of the “main
players” on the project are sitework con-
tractor Blount Construction, mechanical/-
HVAC contractor McKenney’s, shoring
contractors Schnabel Foundations and
ABE Enterprises, formwork contractors
Harcon and Southern Pan Services, struc-
tural and miscellaneous steel subcontrac-
tor SteelFab Inc., architectural precast
concrete contractor Gate Precast and elec-
trical subcontractors Power Design Inc.
and Excel Electric.
In addition, to maintain safety, the
company has employed a full-time safety
manager in order to monitor subcontrac-
tor activities.
Green Commitment
Balfour Beatty Construction says it has
committed itself to implementing green
practices. Currently, the company says
that it is now at work on more than $2
billion of LEED-certified projects that
are in the preconstruction/planning and
construction stages.
“To further our green initiative, we have
established a national task team, as well as
task teams in each regional division to
investigate ways in which our offices and
job sites can be even more sustainable,”
Balfour Beatty Construction says. The com-
pany adds that it also employs 123 LEED
accredited professionals and stands as one
of the top 100 green contractors in the
United States.

position in U.S. commercial construc-
tion for 75 years. In addition to general
contracting, the company specializes in
at-risk construction management,
