BRIEF
To create a visual identity and brand for upcoming photographer Ella Ruth with a
focus on print based design as well as online platforms such as blogs and websites.
CONCEPT
Create an identity that is representative of Ella and her personality but also
compliments her style of photography without overpowering her work with a focus
on keeping the overall look quite contemporary using just a typographic based logo
that works on its own and with photographs.

Colour BRANDING
Ella already had a clear image in her mind of what type of logo would suit her
practice but working together we were able to develop her ideas into something
that is more refned and works across a range of print and screen based outcomes.
LOGO
The logo needed to be quite simple yet have enough character to work with her
photography without overpowering her work too much. The logo was made with a
typeface that was available in a range of different weights.

Working with a typeface that still appeared to be quite subtle whilst it was
uppercase so it didnt overpower or dominate any of the photographs. Choosing to
keep the logo either black, white or grey rather than a range of colours so it doesnt
clash and can be changed according to the photograph it needs to work with.

As Ella works with both portrait and landscape photography it made sense to
produce two sets of cards so that the layout worked well on both sides. Also
ensured there was at least 2 copies of each design.
BUSINESS Cards
We came to the decision that the cards should be produced from moo.com as it
easily gives the option to have multiple designs which was ideal as it allowed Ella to
showcase a range of her photographs.

ISSUU PORTFOLIO
As not all potential clients need to a physical copy the portfolio, me and Ella decided
it would also be appropriate to design a PDF portfolio that could be uploaded to
issuu with the link included in email footers for people to access or, the PDF emailed
to individual clients.
Stationery
Producing letterheads, compliments slips, invoices and model release forms which
all have different photographs on the reverse side, but also come with the option of
just being grey on the reverse. Each item has a range of 3 photographs that can be
used on the reverse side.
printed portfolio
A 12 page A5 sized printed portfolio to be sent out to potential clients with a range
of 6 postcards and a business cards packed in a clear cellophane bag. Choosing a
product that was easy to create and not to large so that it is more economical to
post. Portfolio to be updated bi-monthly.

PROPOSAL
As it stands this is a proposal for the website which is something that I will look to
work on at a later stage. A domain name and hosting has already being purchased
which currently has a holding page letting visitors knowthat there will be a new
website soon - ellaruth.co.uk
Website
A 4 page website with an about, contact, portfolio and home page. Portfolio to be
viewed using lightbox, making it easier to look through photographs after having
clicked on a specifc thumbnail. Homepage consists of an image that fades and
changes every 3 seconds.
Concept
The idea behind the proposed website is to ensure that it is easy to navigate and
really focuses on the photography without being too distracting. Keeping a central
layout to match the printed stationery but using a white background instead of grey
with the logo being grey.

4 page website / 1024 x 768 / Central layout. Home page uses an
application which allows the images to change every 3 seconds
as well as allowing the user to manually click through a range of
photographs as well.
About page is quite simple it has a simple introduction about Ella
and the section will be an editable region allowing Ella to change
the information whenever she needs.
Portfolio page works using lightbox, a selection of thumbnails
which can be clicked. Again an editable region allowing Ella to
update the thumbnails as she needs to upload newwork.
As you click the thumbnail the photograph is enlarged and the
background fades out, each image has a section of type which
focuses on the photograph, again an editable region.
Users can choose to click to go back to the thumbnails or click
the arrows to navigate through the photographs.
The contact page features a photograph and details on how
to contact Ella, the image and type can both be changed and
updated at any time.

A research based investigation of branding and identity with a focus on fnding out
what alternative career Graphic Designers &Illustrators would consider.
CONCEPT
The whole focus of this brief was to be able to get in touch with designers and
studios that I am interested in to fnd out about their alternative career and produce
a range of prints that could be sent out to each individual. The brief allows myself to
have a focus on branding and identity design.

FORMAT
Producing A3 format prints as each designer will then receive their individual print
a long with a print that includes all 24 branded identities.
Branding & Identity
Working on creating a visual identity for each designer according to their chosen
career choice. Chose to work with just black rather than full colour as it works
better like this aesthetically.

A small insert to be included in each tube which thanks each designer for getting
back to me with their answer, again stamped with my logo.
PRINTS
Printed onto A3 grey stock and individually stamped with my own logo, adding a
personal touch to each of the prints before theyre sent out to designers. Looking at
posting them in the newyear.
Packaging
Using a standard brown A3 postal with the address and alternative careers logo
printed in a repeat pattern onto clear sticker paper.

Finish
Front cover printed onto a red stock with black foil and inner pages printed onto
the same stock as the accompanying prints.
PUBLICATION
12 page A5 printed publication, includes all 24 identities as well as the original
written answer from each designer. Quotes are in alphabetical order according to
the career choice with each logo being number and matched up to the quote.
FORMAT
Choosing to keep it as A5 format, due to the number of pages and amount of
content. Starting with a message from myself, followed by 2 double page spreads
with the identities with the remaining pages having the quotes.

BRIEF
A print and packaging based investigation of greetings cards, with a focus on
creating a range of Christmas inspired, Make your own cards for children aged
between 6- 12. With a primary focus on allowing parents to engage with craft
based activities with their children.
CONCEPT
Every year millions of people will exchange Christmas cards, the Make your own
series allows the individual to create something that is much more personal as well
as being a creative activity that engages young children.

COMPETITION
To make the concept more interactive individuals have a chance to photograph the
design they have made and share it either on Twitter or Facebook with the chance
to win a Christmas hamper from UK Greetings.

As the idea behind the brief was to encourage young children to interact with crafts
each of the products within the pack is easily recognisable as an association with
Christmas using simple vector designs that are applied across the range. The pack
also includes glitter glue and colouring pencils.

READY MADE CARDS
A series of 3 chosen designs that are made up of the vector designs from the make
your own range. A simple design with shapes that are easily recognisable with one
colour for each design. Choosing a foil fnish for the cards each card comes with an
envelope according to the colour of the design.

Wrapping Paper
Each individual pack contains 2 sheets of patterned wrapping paper with 2 gift tags,
individually labelled and the price label being colour coded according the colour of
the individual patterns.
Patterns
A series of 6 designs for the wrapping paper, in a range of different colours and
designs. All of the patterns are based on the original items in the Make your own!
pack to ensure the designs are consistent across the range.

Limited Edition
Secondary pattern which uses 3 of the leaves from the original pattern in a set on a
larger scale so the detail within the leaves is more obvious.
Branding
Making the existing Monsoon Home and John Lewis branding black to tie in with
the rest of branding. Naming the range foral collection as the designs are inspired
by nature and plants. The logo uses the Baskerville typeface, lowercase with
additional kerning.
Pattern
The original pattern is a more intricate design made of 4 different patterns within
the leaves, joined together to create a single fowing pattern which is quite detailed.
Each pattern is a vector design which is created using a graphics tablet.

The tableware range includes a mug, dinner plate, side plate and cereal bowl. With 2
sets for the original and the limited edition pattern.
Homeware
The homeware range includes cushions, framed prints, candles, tea towels and
placemats which feature the original or limited pattern on in some cases both.

Vector mock up of the Monsoon Home installation that would be featured in John
Lewis stores. Features all of the current products on context. Installation would be
amended and updated as newcollections were created.
Launch Event INVITE
Creating a launch event night which launches the products into John Lewis.
Invitation includes a 25% off voucher as an incentive for customers to attend the
launch night at their local John Lewis store.

A5 12 page product catalogue which features the price list and photographs of each

details of all the products that are available, whether theyre in stock and the option
to purchase online or buy in store.

Homepage on the John Lewis website alternates between 3 adverts at one given
time promoting a range of different products.

Clicking the link on the homepage takes the user to the homeware page which has
an advert for the Monsoon Home collection, giving the user the option to enter the
store to viewthe products in the range.
Monsoon Home section of the website features all of the products that are for sale,
clicking a product takes the user to a detailed page from which they can add the
items to their online basket or see whether it is available to buy in a local store.
Users are able to scroll down the website to see all of the products that are on sale
and the name of the product and price is visible.
