Use Default Tabs Press the Tab key at any time. Word uses Leftaligned tabs with half-inch tab stops by default. To see where your tabs are, click the Show-Hide button (in the Paragraph group on the Home Ribbon). Tabs are represented by an arrow symbol (). Change the default tab amount Click the Paragraph Dialog Box Launcher on either the Home or Page Layout Ribbon. Click the Tabs button in the lower left corner of the Paragraph Dialog Box. Find the default tab control in the upper right corner. Change the value from 0.5 inches to the desired amount, and click OK. All default tabs in the document will be affected. Set custom tab stops using the Tabs dialog box Custom tab stops are tied to a particular paragraph. Select the paragraph(s) in which you want to set tab stops. Click the Paragraph Dialog Box Launcher on either the Home or Page Layout Ribbon. Click the Tabs button in the lower left corner of the Paragraph Dialog Box. In the Tab stop position box, type the position (in inches) where you want the tab to appear. Select the type of tab you want: Left, Right, Center, Decimal or Bar. If desired, choose a leader style (dotted, dashed or underline). Click Set. To set more tabs for the same paragraph, repeat steps 3-6. When finished, click OK.

Set custom tab stops using the ruler Select the paragraph(s) in which you want to set tab stops. Click at the far left of the horizontal ruler until it changes to the type of tab you want. Click on the horizontal ruler where you want to set the tab stop. To clear the tab stop, drag the tab down from the ruler. Left Tab Set a tab with a leader style Click the Paragraph dialog box launcher Tabs. Select the type of tab you want: Left, Right, Center, Decimal or Bar. Choose a leader style (dotted, dashed or underlined). Click Set. Center Tab Right Tab Decimal Tab

Emphasize a pre-typed list with Bullets or Numbers Type the list; make sure the text is spaced the way you want. Select text. On the Home Ribbon click on the Bullet button or the Number button in the Paragraph group. For more choices, click the Bullets or Numbering arrow. Select the bullet or number style you like.

Customize bullets or numbers

Select the list you wish to customize. To change the bullet character, click the Bullet arrow in the Paragraph Group on the Home Ribbon. Select a bullet from the Bullet Library. Define the bullet by clicking on the Define New Bullet button. Choose a symbol or picture. To set font formats such as bullet size and color, click the Font button. Select the desired formats and click OK. Numbered lists can be customized in a similar way. 1. Select the list you wish to customize. 2. To change the number format, click the Numbering arrow in the Paragraph Group on the Home Ribbon. 3. Select a number format from the Numbering library. 4. Define the number by clicking on the Define New Number Format. Choose a new number style. To set font formats such as number size and color, click the Font button. Select the desired formats and click OK. Add bullets or numbers as you type In a blank line, click the Bullets or Numbering arrow in the Paragraph group on the Home Ribbon. Select the desired bullet or number style. The bullet or number will appear on the blank line. Type list, pressing the Enter key after each item; a new line with a new number or bullet appears. To return to ordinary typing, press the Enter key twice. Use Outline Numbering Type the list, Click the Multilevel list arrow next to the Multilevel list button in the Paragraph group on the Home Ribbon and select the desired style from the List Library. All list items will have top-level numbers. To demote items, select them and click the Increase Indent button on the Paragraph Group on the Home Ribbon. To promote items, select them and click the Decrease Indent button in the Paragraph Group on the Home Ribbon. Outline as you type Click the Multilevel arrow next to the Multilevel button in the Paragraph group on the Home Ribbon and select the desired style from the List Library. The first top-level number will appear. Type the first main heading; press the Enter key to get a new line with a new top-level number. Press the Tab key to demote a top-level number to a second-level number; press Shift+Tab to promote a lower-level number to the next level up. Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library

Define New Multilevel List change the number alignment; text indent. Page Setup - Use the Page Setup group on the Page Layout Ribbon to set up your document. Change margins, orientation, and/or paper size by clicking on the appropriate arrow OR click the Page Setup Dialog Box launcher. The Page Setup Dialog Box has three tabs: Margins, Paper, and Layout. Margins - Change margins by editing numbers for Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins. Type directly in boxes or use spinners to change margin sizes. (Remember that most printers cannot print closer than " - " from the edge of the paper.) Orientation - Choose between Portrait (tall) and Landscape (wide) orientation for your page. Paper - Use the Paper Size drop-down button to change from letter-size paper to legal or other sizes. Do not change the Paper Source! Layout - Change Vertical Alignment from Top (default) to Center to automatically center text from top to bottom on a page. Use for short letters and other short documents.

View your document - Choose how you want to view the document by selecting one of the options in the Document Views group on the View Ribbon. Print Layout view the way it will look when printed. Full Screen Reading displays as much of the content that will fit on the screen. Web layout displays the document the way it will look when viewed on a web browser. Outline displays the document as nested levels of headings and body text. Draft a simplified layout of the document

Zoom in or out - Click the button in the Zoom Group on the View Ribbon to bring up the Zoom Dialog Box. Choose the zoom setting you want by clicking in the appropriate radio button, or type any percentage between 10 and 500. View the preview and click OK. OR use the Zoom Slider in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
