NAME- ABIR GOYAL Environmental Systems and Societies SL TEACHER- Mr.

DADIV ARUL RAJ 27-7-2012 Design Lab Lab on investigation of Abiotic factors in a chosen ecosystem Aim/Objective:- The primary aim or objective of conducting this lab would be to investigate the difference of temperature at different times of the day at the chosen ecosystem which in this case would be the KODAI KANAL LAKE Hypothesis:- As a statement for my hypothesis , I would like to say that the change in the temperature will be Variables:INDEPENTS VARIABLE- The independent variable in this case would be the temperature at the preferred sites chosen in the Kodi Lake in general. DEPENDENT LAB- The dependent variable could be considered as the time at which one will follow up the procedure and record the observations. CONTROLLED VARIABLES1) The set up of instrument before the initiation of the procedure 2) The constant depth in which the two chosen factors are chosen to be used at MATERIALS REQUIRED:1) 2) 3) 4) A digital thermometer with a certainty of about =/- 0.1 mg per liter Writing materials A ruler Cloth in order to wipe the water off the instrument.

PROCEDURE1) In order to initiate the procedural strategy, one must ensure that all the instruments required to carry out the procedure are to their optimum standard level, or to their original set up. 2) Then chose three preferred timings at fairly standard intervals between and a simple open location of the chosen site at the ecosystem (kodi lake) 3) At time 1, preferred in the morning, visit the lake and go to the chosen site.

4) Follow up the procedure notified at the end of the main procedure about how to use the digital thermometer. 5) Using the ruler in order to be accurate, dip the digital thermometer into the water to about 10 cms deep for approximately two minutes 6) Record your observations and wipe the thermometer with the piece of cloth mentioned In the apparatus which is required in order to complete the labs procedure 7) Follow steps 5, 6, 7 again for the next four times at the same time and site in order to make sample results and then find the average temperature from the outputs found. 8) Do this for all the three times chosen, with a rate of 5 trials per timing. (the morning, noon, and the evening) 9) Record your observations STEPS IN ORDER TO USE THE DIGITAL THERMOMETER CORRECTLY:1) In order to switch On the instrument, press the degree F or degree C button. 2) Select the display range of 1 degree or 0.1 with the initial uncertainty being 0.1 degree 3) The last reading can be displayed by long pressing the HOLD button, therefore in order to look at the reading 4) Record you observations
