Smart Communications customers in Mega Manila, including the Bulacan and Rizal provinces, will soon enjoy unmatched mobile voice quality. The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), has deployed Nokia Siemens Networks Wide Band Adaptive Multi-Rate (WB-AMR)* functionality which enables it to offer high-definition (HD) voice services to subscribers. Pilot implementations of this new feature have already been completed in Makati, Taguig and Rizal. Nokia Siemens Networks is deploying the WB-AMR software feature in Smart Communications 3G network, and will do so later in its 2G network. The upgrade process is simplified by requiring only software updates for the network, and results in subscribers of Smart Communications benefiting from improved voice call quality. 29th November 2012 29th Nov 2012 - Microsoft Youth Spark launched in India

Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd today gave the first indication of the impact its newly launched global initiative Microsoft YouthSpark, will have in India, announcing the award of cash grants worth 350,000 USD for Indian NGOs for the year 2012-13. Two local NGOs, Aide t Action and Aga Khan Rural Support Program, were allocated 250,000 USD for the year, in support of their work with youth. The company-wide initiative will aim to create opportunities for 300 million youth in more than 100 countries over the next three years.
