Task: Packaging for shipping a large engine block. Special challenge: To protect sensitive, polished and ground steel surfaces against corrosion To protect bore holes with difficult access against corrosion Transport by sea to the USA over several weeks (saline air, extreme fluctuations in temperature). Solution: Brangs + Heinrich has developed a packaging solution made up of VCI products aligned with one another for protecting large and delicate steel surfaces. Materials uses: BRANOROST Chip R as a VCI depot for particularly sensitive areas which are difficult to access BRANOROST KR 11 crepe paper as a pliable wrapping material and VCI depot BRANOFOL M 3.15 crate insert as outer packaging Reusable plywood crate.

An overview of the advantages Compared with traditional anti-corrosion solutions, e.g. coating products with grease or special agents (Tectyl), there are four main advantages of using VCI* technology: 1. Time-saving: Effortless packaging in just a few steps Shipped goods can be used immediately upon arrival (no cleaning necessary). 2. Money-saving: Its both packaging and corrosion protection at the same time No greasing or de-greasing required. 3. Safe: Its no problem to open it for short periods, e. g. at international borders for customs control. 4. Environmentally friendly: No major work protection measures recycled. Materials can be recycled.
All corrosion protection products have been tested by DEKRA and TV in accordance with TRGS 615 (Technische Regeln fr Gefahrenstoffe technical regulations for hazardous substances). VCI products are manufactured in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and are environmentally orientated in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001.

*VCI the anti-rust formula The common basic principle of these materials is the fact that they have been treated with Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI). These substances chemically pacify metal surfaces, suppressing their liability to corrode. Due to the fact that they constantly release protective substances into the atmosphere, these inhibitors form a permanent and invisible protective layer around corrodible metal goods inside closed packaging. Subsequently, goods remain undamaged not only because of their direct contact with the packaging but also because of this indirect protection. The VCI system is thus ideally suited for packaging irregularly-shaped objects.

BRANOROST corrosion protection paper long-term protection using VCI BRANOROST can be used either to wrap metal parts or as an insert/interleaving in transport containers. BRANOROST prevents the formation of rust because it is impregnated with VCI. BRANOROSTs properties and format can be adapted to meet individual requirements. BRANOROST products are available as different weights of smooth paper impregnated on one or both sides. We also supply special types of paper, e.g. crepe, PE/PP-coated, sealable, textile reinforced, flame-resistant, etc. which are available as rolls, sheets, bags and blanks. For simple corrosion protection purposes, we recommend the use of our anti-corrosion paper Ferrogard for iron and Multiguard for iron and all non-ferrous metals. The following metals can be protected: BRANOROST R: steel, chrome, high-grade tin, high-grade aluminum, cast iron. BRANOROST M: as for BRANOROST R, however provides less protection (nitrite-free) for cast iron. BRANOROST U: steel, cast iron (only direct contact protection), chrome, copper, (nitrite-free) brass, bronze, zinc, high-grade aluminum. BRANOROST corrosion protection chips targeted corrosion protection for gaps and cavities The chips are placed in existing outer packaging (which is as airtight as possible) such as in a polyethylene bag, plastic tube, sheath, airtight crate, container, switch or tool box. BRANOROST chips are ideal for use in CKD. The chips are available in sheets or various sizes of blanks. As a result, the correct size and quantity of chips required for the task at hand can be placed in the area to be protected where they then release their VCI substances. The scope of protection provided by BRANOROST anti-corrosion chips is the same as that of BRANOROST corrosion protection paper.

BRANOFOL corrosion protection film doesnt give rust a chance

BRANOFOL corrosion protection film with dual action As well as providing the same protection as that of conventional films, e.g. protection against humidity, dust dirt, etc, BRANOFOL also protects against corrosion. Packaged goods remain visible because BRANOFOL is transparent. The favorable and consistent qualities of BRANOFOL ensure that the film can also be used with all standard packaging machines for automated packaging.

Liquid anti-corrosion agents Liquid anti-corrosion agents are utilized where VCI corrosion protection paper cant be used. Here, too, Brangs + Heinrich Industrial Packaging has a broad spectrum of products for you to choose from. Depending on the application, different liquid anti-corrosion agents are used. BRANOROL is utilized as a liquid protection agent for cavities, BRANORAL is an additive for pacifying baths and BRANOTECT is a liquid surface conservation agent. Areas of application include: Agricultural machines, snow-clearing equipment, boats, etc. Anti-tarnishing for brass, copper, etc. All-round metal-care product for automobiles, motorbikes and construction machinery (BRANOTECT).

Desiccants The desiccants we use are a form of activated clay which is packed as granules into bags made of dust-proof, tear-proof paper or fleece material. We also utilize silica gel. The function of desiccants is to extract most of the humidity present in the air. Desiccants protect delicate goods against humidity and corrosion. This special packaging protection is used for complete installations, machine tools, electronic data-processing systems, optical and electrical devices, pharmaceutical products and in the food and chemical industries. It is imperative that appropriate packaging is used consisting of: Aluminum barrier foil TL foil Valron.

Barrier foil Our heat-sealable barrier film is made of an aluminum barrier material, which combines water-vapor proofing with high resistance to mechanical stress in an optimum way. VACUPAC has proved to be an ideal form of packaging for transporting and storing goods in extreme climatic conditions. Barrier materials can be easily combined with the modern VCI method or with BRANOROST paper. They can also be used together with desiccants for climatic packaging. Used as climatic packaging, the water-vapor-proof barrier materials protect machines, precision tools, replacement parts, systems, electrical controls and other valuable shipped goods against humidity, corrosion and climatic stress, e. g. shipping overseas, shipping to the poles or tropics, long-term storage, etc.
