Before you begin


The following files are needed for this Let Me Try exercise: Element Manipulation Metric RMT-WFL-03-XX-M3-ME-Selection_Manipulation_A.rvt.

You have several options available for accessing the file(s): 1. You can access the file(s) in the attachment window of this pdf. To do this:

Click on the paper clip icon of this pdf to open the attachments window. You will see a list of the files for this exercise Click on the file name. The file will open in the appropriate program (ie. AutoCAD). Once it has opened, go under File Save As and save the file to your folder on the c:/ drive of your computer.

2. To access the files from your dataset:


If you havent downloaded the dataset yet, open your course homepage. Click on the link that reads: click here to download the dataset for this course. Save the dataset to the c:/ drive on your computer.

This exercise starts from the Revit model RMT-WFL-03-XX-M3-ME-Selection_Manipulation_A.rvt. 1. Open RMT-WFL-03-XX-M3-ME-Selection_Manipulation_A.rvt Navigate to the default 3D View and select one of the external walls. This activates the Modify Walls tab which appears green on the ribbon at the top and also displays the relevant element properties in the properties palette. 2. Select in turn, a window and then one of the ground floor doors, noting each time that the ribbon will offer suitable modification tools and the properties palette reflects the selection accordingly. Type Selector 3. With the door still selected, choose a different type from the list and watch the view window update the changes made, then return the door back to its original type. Instance, Type and Shared Parameters 4. With a window selected, look at the Properties Palette and note the information shown. 5. Change the value of the Sill Height parameter to 1500mm and click Apply or simply move the cursor back to the working area of the screen to view the result in the model view.

6. Go back into the Palette and into the Type Properties via the Edit Type button.

7. Edit the Height to be 500mm and click OK to close the dialogue box. The view window will update to show all the windows of that type within the model have been updated to reflect the change. Snaps and the Associated Graphic Representation From the Manage Tab a dialogue can be launched which lists all the object snapping options as well as the associated keyboard shortcuts. 8. Create several walls to investigate how the snaps operate.

9. Open the Snaps Setting dialogue box, from the Manage Tab and take a look at the snaps available and the shortcuts associated with them. 10. Save your project in your project folder located on the c: drive of your computer.
