IP Printing - Windows XP

How To Add/Install A Network Printer: Windows XP From an original document by Roberth P. Rodriguez, 2004. To add a network printer in Windows XP, you will need the printer's IP address. Obtaining an IP address varies from printer to Printer. Refer to the table here to find your printer's IP address. If its not listed then you need to print a settings page on the printer or check with a collegue who has that printer installed. Contact your local IT support person if you have problems.

1. Open the Printers and Faxes Control Panel by selecting it in your Start Menu.

be prompted to install drivers for your printer. Windows XP comes with plenty of models/brands' software drivers built-in. Select your printer's brand name under Manufacturer and its model under Printers. Then click Next. For HP printers I would normally recommend using the PCL6 version of the driver if available unless you know that you need something different.

If your printer's specific model is not found in the list, go to the website of the printer's manufacturer. Some common printer manufacturers are Hewlett-Packard (http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html), Epson (http://www.epson.com/northamerica.html) and Canon (http://www.usa.canon.com/html/download/index.html).

12. Give your printer a name. If this is your default (only) printer, set it so accordingly.
