SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
Trip Circuit Supervision Relay Model TCSOI is a electronic static
relay, designed to monitor the healthiness oI trip coil circuit oI a circuit breaker.
It monitors the trip coil circuit continuously in breaker ON as well as breaker
OFF conditions and gives alarm in case oI Iollowing Iaults:
Open circuit oI trip coil or trip coil circuit.
Failure oI trip coil supply
Under voltage condition oI trip coil supply.
Failure oI auxiliary supply.
Failure oI circuit breaker mechanism to complete trip operation.
TCS 01 is very easy to install at any site. It's compact size reduces the panel
space requirement and draw-out construction makes the maintenance work
easy.

SECTION II
INSTALLATION
2.1 PreIiminary Cheek.
Check the relay for any obvious damage, if found repack it and
inform nearest L&T office/dealer.
Ensure that auxiliary supply range is as per your order. This is
indicated on the label fixed to one side of the relay. This label
shows external wiring diagram of the relay and the selected
auxiliary supply range.
Remove the protective cover from the terminal block by
removing two screws. Connect the suitable auxiliary supply
between terminals 3 and 4. Switch ON the supply; Power On
and Trip LED shall glow.
2.2 Mounting And Wiring.
TCS 01 is designed for flush mounting on the panel. Refer fig. 1
for panel cutout dimensions and space required behind the
panel. Fix the mounting clamps supplied along with to the top
and bottom side of the relay. nsert the relay through the panel
cutout and hold it firmly against the panel. Tighten the screws on
the mounting bracket.
Wire the relay terminals as shown in the wiring diagram.(Refer
Fig. 2) Relay terminals are suitable for 2.5 mm.sq lugs. Fix the
protective cover back on the terminal block with the help of two
screws after completing the wiring.
5
NOTE:
1. REMOVE THE RELAY FROM THE PANEL DURING
TRANSPORTATION.
2. WIRING DIAGRAM SHOWS OUTPUT RELAY
CONTACT POSITION IN POWER OFF S1A1E.
3. OUTPUT RELAY REMAINS ENERGIZED DURING
HEALTI-IY CONDITION.
4. ENSURE PROPER EARTH CONNECTION TO THE RELAY
2.3 Settings:
TCS 01 works Ior any Trip coil supply between 20V to 264V ACIDC.
It can be set to monitor under voltage condition on some oI the
standard trip coil supplies used Irequently by using DIPswitches on the
Iront panel. The standard voltages it can monitor are 24,48,110,22OV
DC and 110,24OV AC. Whenever Trip Coil Supply goes below 80 oI
its nominal value, alarm gets initiated. II the Trip Coil Supply available
is other than these voltages or under voltage alarm is not required, this
Ieature can be switched oII. Follow the instructions given below to set
this Ieature.
1. Remove Iront transparent cover Irom the unit by removing two
screws.
2. Keep DIPswitch marked 'Enable' in ON position.
3. Keep DIPswitch corresponding to required Trip Coil Supply in ON
position. (e.g., II Trip Coil Supply is 220V DC then keep DIP
switch marked 220V DC in ON position.)
4.Fix the transparent cover back.
6
IF THIS FEATURE 1S NOT REQUIRED, ENSURE THAT DIP
SWITCH MARKED 'ENABLE' IS IN OFF POSITION.
SECTION III
OPERATION
3.1 Operation
During normal operation the Power On LED and iI breaker is in OFF
condition breaker OFF LED will glow indicating that breaker is in OFF
condition. The output relay contacts are 'selI reset' type ( i.e., they will
reset as soon as Iault gets cleared ) whereas Trip LED is to be resetted
manually. Press 'Reset' button to reset the trip LED indication. Reset
button is used only Ior resetting the trip indication, it does not aIIect the
Iault detection Iunction oI Relay ( i.e., even iI operator Iorgets to reset
the Trip indication, TCSO1 will still supervise the trip coil circuit).
By pressing 'Test' push button the relay will de-energize and trip LED
will glow. AIter releasing the ' Test' push button out put relay will
energize again and trip LED will be OII (Under healthy condition oI
trip coil circuit the out put relay is in energized condition). So testing
can be done only aIter completing the trip coil supply wiring and trip
coil supply should be present.
'Low TC Supply' indication LED (red color) starts blinking iI Trip Coil
Supply goes below 80 oI its nominal value provided this Ieature has
been selected. Output relay and 'Trip' LED will operate giving alarm
indication. This indication is selI-reset type, i.e. 'LOW TC SUPPLY'
LED will stop blinking as soon as Trip Coil Supply becomes normal,
but 'TRIP' LED will remain ON until resetted manually.
7
3.2 Maintenance
TCS 01 does not need any routine maintenance during its working liIe.
It does not contain any user serviceable / replaceable parts. In case oI
Iailure oI the relay inIorm nearest L & T oIIice.
TCS 01 has draw out construction hence in case oI Iailure control card
alone can be removed and replaced without removing the complete relay
Irom the panel. The control card contains electronic components
sensitive to static electrical charge hence should be handled very
careIully taking precautions such as ensuring that human body is at
'Ground' potential beIore removing the control card Irom the relay,
packing the card using 'Anti Static' material, not touching any
components on the card as Iar as possible.
To remove the control card Irom the relay, Iollow the instructions given
below:
1. Remove the transparent cover Irom the Iront panel by removing
two screws.
2. Turn the two screws located at top right and bottom leIt corner oI the
panel through 90 degrees (clockwise / anticlockwise)
3. Pull the panel out using the handle provided on the Iront panel
To install the control card back in the relay, Iollow the instructions
given below:
1. Observe that locking pin on two screws at top and bottom corners oI
the panel is in horizontal direction.( This pin is on the back side oI the
panel.)
2. Engage the card careIully between two card guides mounted in the
relay enclosure.
3. Push the card in Iully till Iront panel locks in with click sound.
8
4. Turn the two screws at top and bottom corners oI the Iront panel
through 90.
5. Pull the handle to ensure that card has locked in properly.
6. Fix the transparent cover with two screws.
