Faithful Revolution
Due to low Sunday afternoon attendance we will be postponing the Vatican II series, Faithful Revolution. If you know of a better time and day of the week please let Bill Runge at bill@ctklombard.org or Eileen Maggiore at eileen@ctklombard.org know.

Wednesday Mornings after the 8:30 am Mass Father Barron illuminates and explains the conviction of the Catholic Faith that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised messiah and the revelation of God becomes man. He shows how Jesus fulfills the four tasks of the Messiah according to the Old and New Testaments, and how the living legacy of Christ is proclaimed by the Church. Jan 30, 2013 Week 4: Our Tainted Natures Solitary Boast-Mary, the Mother of God
This lesson correlates the Catholic Faiths testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother. Mary is explained as an on-going presence, an actor in the life of the Church.

Feb 6, 2013 Week 5: The Indispensable Men- Peter, Paul and the Missionary Adventure. Father Barron calls Peter and Paul two indispensable men, the ones without whom the Church never would have emerged and survived. In telling each mans story, Father Barron shows how the Holy Spirit worked through apostles and disciples to build the Church. Feb 13, 2013 Week 6: A Body Both Suffering and Glorious- The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church. Clearly answering the question, What is the Church? Father Barron presents the reality of the Church as one, holy, catholic and apostolic. The Body of Christ can be seen all over the earth, while still escaping total understanding as the mystical union between Christ and his Church. All are welcome to come to one or all 10! We meet in the parish life center after the Wednesday 8:30 am Mass. For more information please contact Eileen Maggiore at 630.396.6076.

Welcome Rev. George Knab

Living the Eucharist is a parish renewal program that will be offered to all parishioners this Lent season. Small groups will gather weekly for 6 weeks during the Lenten season. There is something for adults, teens and families. The weekly gathering will be 90 minute session reflecting on the Sunday readings and other topics each week. There will be a Living the Eucharist retreat on April 27, 2013.
Benefits of the Program: Greater appreciation and understanding of preparing for

I have extended an invitation to Rev. George Knab O.M.I. to come to our parish on this weekend. Rev. George Knab O.M.I. will speak to you about the work being done by Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, and how this provides a trustworthy way to actively participate in the social outreach of the Catholic Church and answer the Gospel call to serve the poor. CFCA is a lay Catholic organization that has served more than 600,000 children, youth and elderly in 22 developing countries since 1981-empowering them to make more choices in their lives, live with dignity and reach their potential. CFCA's unique sponsorship program is highly personalized. It matches a child, youth or aging person at a project overseas with a sponsor in the U.S. who cares about and encourages them. For about a dollar a day, a sponsor helps to provide much-needed nourishing food, medical and dental care, the chance for a child to go to school, livelihood programs for families and much more. All of these efforts are directed at affirming the dignity of every person in their local community. Please join me in welcoming Rev. George Knab O.M.I. to our parish. Sincerely yours in Jesus Christ, Rev. Peter Jarosz

and participating in Sunday Mass Deeper, more intentional engagement in Sunday Mass, and, by extension, in parish life Keener awareness of living as a disciple of Jesus and building up the Kingdom of God A stronger, more Eucharist-based Catholic identity among participants A greater sense of community among participants.

Interested in Serving at Mass?

Altar Server Training Saturday, February 9 9:00am until 10:30am Meet in the Church
Boys and Girls (men and women too!) in Fourth Grade and above, and who have received First Holy Communion, are invited to participate as Altar Servers to serve at Mass here at Christ the King. We typically have a minimum of two and a maximum of four Altar Servers at each Sunday (and Saturday Vigil) celebration. Special occasions, such as Holy Days of Obligation also provide opportunities for service. Youth and adults serving in the Altar Server ministry have a great responsibility to perform their ministry to very specific requirements and standards. In order to give all participants in this ministry the best possible opportunity to learn the processes and procedures, all servers are required to attend at a training session before they are placed on the server schedule. Youth and adults who are already serving will be required to attend one session each year to review our parish's specific procedures and continued catechesis. Each session includes completing contact forms, teaching the scheduling process, reviewing our handbook for servers, and practicing Altar Server activities. Parents are invited to attend the training sessions as an integral part of the service provided by our youth. Parents also share the responsibility to get Altar Servers to celebrations on time and properly dressed to serve. Our clergy greatly appreciate Altar Servers. If you are in the fourth grade and older, this is an excellent service ministry in which you may participate. Thank you for your service!

Gifts can total up to $100,000 (married $200,000). The new law also means that if you made a gift from your IRA to charity in 2012, that gift is not taxable. 2012 CATCH-UP: make a gift from your IRA to charity in January 2013 - the gift will be treated as if you made the gift in 2012 You must be 70 1/2 or older at the time of your gift. From the Bishop

We Believe in the Holy Spirit

was the hallmark of the early church as it moved from the upper room to the ends of the known world within the first century. It is this deep unity in the spirit that allows the church to embrace a diversity of gifts, members, cultures and personalities. We are united in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church, as we profess in the Creed, so that all distinctions are subservient to the one faith and all gifts are used for the common good. The same Holy Spirit that unifies also strengthens, symbolized by the tongues of fire. As fire purifies, illumines, inspires, so the fire of the Holy Spirit does for us. This fire invigorates our faith, empowers us to live it actively day by day. The fire of the Holy Spirit gives us courage in our devotion to the truth and right judgment to witness to the faith and resist temptation. In this way, the life of a faithful Catholic becomes a light, a fire for the world to see and feel, a beacon to follow, the warmth to melt the hardened heart. If we open our souls to the fire of the Holy Sprit, the Spirit will use us to reach out to humanity, to light up another mind and heart. So it was with the early Church it was their example of love and devotion that first attracted people to the faith even before I think we find an answer in the As fire purifies, illumines, inspires, they had the opportunity to Scriptures, in the account of Pentecost so the fire of the Holy Spirit does for us. hear the Gospel. The description of faith, the Church needs to speak in a unified voice the whole a strong, driving wind evokes images from the story of people of God in union with our Holy Father, and our bishops, creation. In Genesis, we read that the wind, the Spirit, the successors to the apostles. Division, dissension, scandal, swept over the vast waters, and that the wind/breath of God laxity, hypocrisy all these lessen the credibility of the was breathed into a clay figure and became a living being, Churchs witness. Each member of the Church needs to be an formed in Gods image and likeness. This is the true basis example of how the faith can be joyfully and energetically for human solidarity that which unites us, namely, that lived in the world today. More than ever, people need to hear each of us reflects Gods love, fidelity, justice and beauty the Good News of Jesus death and resurrection clearly and in our own unique way. This catholicity, this universality, Christ is our Hope - January, 2013

ast October, I was waiting to meet a friend at OHare Airport and, of course, the flight was delayed. As I waited, I sat and watched the people go by. I was amazed by the diversity of those who walked past me in just the short time I was there. There were people of every race, color, nationality and economic status. People were dressed in everything from Armani suits to tattered blue jeans, from shorts to Indian saris. As we were about to begin the Year of Faith with its emphasis on the New Evangelization, I couldnt help but wonder what the Church of today could say to such a diverse group of people. What language, what words would touch their hearts to accept the Good News of the Catholic faith? How can we, as a Church, invite, engage and challenge the people of the world to listen to the Gospel message?

A Stewardship Moment
Todays reading from the Gospel of Luke offers us the first words of Jesus as he begins his public ministry. The words reflect his understanding of his Spirit-anointed mission. His words are his Mission Statement. Good stewards rejoice in being followers of Jesus. They realize that Jesus commission is their commission as well. They embrace it and adopt it as their own. We, too, have glad tidings to bring to a suffering world. This year, how will we fulfill Christs commission in the world in which he has placed us, using the gifts he has entrusted to us?

THE 2013 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL

THE LORD SUSTAINS HIS PEOPLE Bishop Conlons mailing asking for a pledge to the 2013 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal is in the hands of many of our parishioners. If you have received the mailing, please respond as soon as possible. This year, the theme of the Appeal is The Lord Sustains His People. God constantly gives to us. His grace is ever present. His blessings are abundant. We can demonstrate our gratitude to God and help build the kingdom of God in our own parish and our own diocese by making a generous gift to the CMAA. The Appeal not only funds the operations of the diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. Please answer the bishops request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in 10 monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support.

Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.
