Faithful Revolution
Due to low Sunday afternoon attendance we will be postponing the Vatican II series, Faithful Revolution. If you know of a better time and day of the week please let Bill Runge at bill@ctklombard.org or Eileen Maggiore at eileen@ctklombard.org know.
Wednesday Mornings after the 8:30 am Mass Father Barron illuminates and explains the conviction of the Catholic Faith that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised messiah and the revelation of God becomes man. He shows how Jesus fulfills the four tasks of the Messiah according to the Old and New Testaments, and how the living legacy of Christ is proclaimed by the Church. Jan 30, 2013 Week 4: Our Tainted Natures Solitary Boast-Mary, the Mother of God
This lesson correlates the Catholic Faiths testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother. Mary is explained as an on-going presence, an actor in the life of the Church.
Feb 6, 2013 Week 5: The Indispensable Men- Peter, Paul and the Missionary Adventure. Father Barron calls Peter and Paul two indispensable men, the ones without whom the Church never would have emerged and survived. In telling each mans story, Father Barron shows how the Holy Spirit worked through apostles and disciples to build the Church. Feb 13, 2013 Week 6: A Body Both Suffering and Glorious- The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church. Clearly answering the question, What is the Church? Father Barron presents the reality of the Church as one, holy, catholic and apostolic. The Body of Christ can be seen all over the earth, while still escaping total understanding as the mystical union between Christ and his Church. All are welcome to come to one or all 10! We meet in the parish life center after the Wednesday 8:30 am Mass. For more information please contact Eileen Maggiore at 630.396.6076.

The Word of God: Reliable for Navigating Life! The Offering We Give to God
Holiness!
I have extended an invitation to Rev. George Knab O.M.I. to come to our parish on this weekend. Rev. George Knab O.M.I. will speak to you about the work being done by Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, and how this provides a trustworthy way to actively participate in the social outreach of the Catholic Church and answer the Gospel call to serve the poor. CFCA is a lay Catholic organization that has served more than 600,000 children, youth and elderly in 22 developing countries since 1981-empowering them to make more choices in their lives, live with dignity and reach their potential. CFCA's unique sponsorship program is highly personalized. It matches a child, youth or aging person at a project overseas with a sponsor in the U.S. who cares about and encourages them. For about a dollar a day, a sponsor helps to provide much-needed nourishing food, medical and dental care, the chance for a child to go to school, livelihood programs for families and much more. All of these efforts are directed at affirming the dignity of every person in their local community. Please join me in welcoming Rev. George Knab O.M.I. to our parish. Sincerely yours in Jesus Christ, Rev. Peter Jarosz

Each Leadership Commission met with the ministries and organizations within their ministry to discuss changes to the Parish Pastoral Council bylaws, updates to the parish leadership directory and updates within their commission. We had an excellent attendance and invite any interested member of the parish to attend any of the upcoming meetings. was the hallmark of the early church as it moved from the upper room to the ends of the known world within the first century. It is this deep unity in the spirit that allows the church to embrace a diversity of gifts, members, cultures and personalities. We are united in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church, as we profess in the Creed, so that all distinctions are subservient to the one faith and all gifts are used for the common good. The same Holy Spirit that unifies also strengthens, symbolized by the tongues of fire. As fire purifies, illumines, inspires, so the fire of the Holy Spirit does for us. This fire invigorates our faith, empowers us to live it actively day by day. The fire of the Holy Spirit gives us courage in our devotion to the truth and right judgment to witness to the faith and resist temptation. In this way, the life of a faithful Catholic becomes a light, a fire for the world to see and feel, a beacon to follow, the warmth to melt the hardened heart. If we open our souls to the fire of the Holy Sprit, the Spirit will use us to reach out to humanity, to light up another mind and heart. So it was with the early Church it was their example of love and devotion that first attracted people to the faith even before I think we find an answer in the As fire purifies, illumines, inspires, they had the opportunity to Scriptures, in the account of Pentecost so the fire of the Holy Spirit does for us. hear the Gospel. In Genesis, we read that the wind, the Spirit, the successors to the apostles. ast October, I was waiting to meet a friend at OHare Airport and, of course, the flight was delayed. As I waited, I sat and watched the people go by. I was amazed by the diversity of those who walked past me in just the short time I was there. There were people of every race, color, nationality and economic status. People were dressed in everything from Armani suits to tattered blue jeans, from shorts to Indian saris. As we were about to begin the Year of Faith with its emphasis on the New Evangelization, I couldnt help but wonder what the Church of today could say to such a diverse group of people. What language, what words would touch their hearts to accept the Good News of the Catholic faith? How can we, as a Church, invite, engage and challenge the people of the world to listen to the Gospel message?

A Stewardship Moment
Todays reading from the Gospel of Luke offers us the first words of Jesus as he begins his public ministry. The words reflect his understanding of his Spirit-anointed mission. His words are his Mission Statement. Good stewards rejoice in being followers of Jesus. They realize that Jesus commission is their commission as well. They embrace it and adopt it as their own. We, too, have glad tidings to bring to a suffering world. This year, how will we fulfill Christs commission in the world in which he has placed us, using the gifts he has entrusted to us?
