6 Beta 2, based on Limera1n exploit can jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch 4G, 3G, 2G. However iPhone unlockers are WARNED to stay away from iOS 4.2.1 as this firmware brings a baseband update. For those of you who upgraded to iOS 4.2.1 GM and were able to successfully jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 only to find that Cydia is not currently compatible with it, here is how you can downgrade iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 4.1 oriOS 4.0.2 or iOS 4.0.1. Of Course having your iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs saved on Cydia is a must if you want this method to work.
How To Downgrade iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 4.1 / iOS 4.0.2 / iOS 4.0.1
1. Download iOS 4.1/iOS 4.0.1/iOS 4.0.2 IPSW firmware file for your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. All download links at bottom. 2. Put your iDevice in DFU Mode. In order to do this connect your device to your Computer via USB cable and turn it off. Next do the following one after the other. A. Hold POWER button for 3 seconds. B. Next keep holding the POWER button and press the HOME button. Do this for 10 seconds. C. Release the POWER button, but keep holding the HOME button till your Computer recognizes the iPhone as a USB device (a connect sound). When your device is in DFU mode, it is completely blank. 3. Now open iTunes and it will recognize your iPhone or iPod Touch in recovery mode.
4. This step is for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, and ipt 2G (MC), and iPad users. iPhone 3G and iTouch 2G (Non MC) users can skip this step and go to Step 5. Now is the time to restore your device to an earlier firmware. But iTunes will not let you do so, and this is why you need to follow one of these methods.
B. Edit hosts file to point to Cydias server by adding the following line: 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com Here is how you can Edit And Save Hosts File In Windows Edit And Save Hosts File In Mac OSX Both these methods are to fool iTunes into thinking that its contacting Apple server, while actually its connected to the Cydia server. Follow one of these two and proceed to next step. 5. Select your iPod Touch or iPad in iTunes and click SHIFT + Restore (ALT + Restore on Mac). When iTunes prompts to select an IPSW, choose the one for your device you downloaded in Step 1. Let iTunes restore your device. 6. After the restoration is complete, you have to set up your device as new and then sync all music, apps, movies, etc from iTunes. iTunes will not let you restore from a previous backup as it is from an older firmware.
Your data is not lost, so dont worry. Choose Set up as a new and continue to let iTunes bring up your device and then sync everything from your Computer to your device. Those who edited the Hosts file to trick iTunes can revert the changes and save the file. Click on the Stop TSS Server if you have used TinyUmbrella.
7. Now Click on next and Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta will prepare data for jailbreak. 8. Now select Install Cydia and if you want you can activate Multitasking, Battery Percentage & Homescreen wallpaper and click Next.
9. Now follow onscreen instructions and complete iPod Touch 2G 4.0 jailbreak process. Your iPod Touch may reboot several time once completed add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7repo to Cydia. Now enjoy your jailbroken iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4!
