TECHNICAL TEXTILE INDUSTRY

An Overview
Technical textiles assume importance as they provide solutions in almost all spheres of human life. Recognising their importance, in the first year of 11th Five Year Plan, during Tex-Summit 2007, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh announced Technology Mission on Technical Textiles. Subsequently, Ministry of Textiles has successfully launched the Technology Mission on Technical Textiles (TMTT) in December 2010 with a budget allocation of Rs 200 crores for five years and substantial progress has been made since then. Four new Centres of Excellence (COEs) have been established and existing four have been upgraded to cover all the sub-sectors of technical textiles. In this background, under the TMTT, in August 2011, TECHNOTEX- the first ever International Exhibition-cumConference on Technical Textiles in the country was organised by Ministry of Textiles jointly with FICCI. In the light of our Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision, it is timely to take stock of what has been achieved and the way forward for this sector in the XII Five Year Plan. After the great success of the first edition, Ministry of Textiles along with FICCI is organizing the second edition of TECHNOTEX from 17-19 January, 2013 in ITPO, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
