The Illusion of Control Majority of our grief stems from our desire to control things around us. We do not just want to own things, we want to control them. [There is an illusion of control we create for ourselves, for our pseudo satisfaction.] This is sure recipe for disaster. That we simply cant control things or happenings around us is a fact that must be accepted at a conscious level. [So what if we are dying to tell our boss that its okay to be late or wish to see our spouse listen to us when we speak or better still wishing to win each cricket match played with Pakistan!] But things have their own way of taking shape. The Great Designer up in the heavens, alone , knows what or which shape of the things is better for us. But we keep brooding over things we cant have any control over, and which reduces us to be complaining creatures or worse still turns us into cynics. Let this illusion of control go! Once we do this , calm descends ; and we are able to think in a rational way. Certainly we cant control the things around us, but surely its possible to control our reactions to it. Our behavior alone is what we have control over.We can choose to be angry, fuming, weeping or shouting when someone or something hurts us or we may just smile and do not let others have the comfort of enjoying our suffering. How we respond to a crisis or say situation [social or individual] is important. We can hold night long candle light vigils or go on long marches as pleases our changing whims. But we can also think of doing something constructive something positive for our nation, for our community; may be , helping a poor neighborhood kid with his Maths lessons , sharing a few good jokes with our lonely elders or earning some extra bucks to be donated entirely for a good cause? Alhamdulillah, my home is free from TV and all the unproductive TV serials that make you lethargic. I am not bragging anyway, but that took a lot of effort and mutual understanding in the family. More you stay away from the Idiot box, more you can be focused and productive. In the age of Movies and Media, where talented people are paid enormously to create discord in the society and to continuously misinterpret a particular religion in the masses through Movies and Media bombardment. Why Sharia Looks Overwhelming

As India emerges from yet another futile year covered in shame; yet aspiring to build a secure and crime free nation one day. Incidents such as the Delhi rape case and the sexual assault on the two year old girl are still haunting fresh on the minds of the people. Unhealed and unraveled, they have left a deep scar on the face of India. The bus which spread ignominy whilst moving on the roads of the capital, has kindled a kind of fire in every thinking Indians heart, which cannot be easily stopped until justice prevails in the society. The preponderant outrage which is being witnessed in the entire subcontinent is a clear indication of a dramatic change in the perception of the people. The masses have come to the notion that rigorous laws are the only deterrent to stop crimes in India. Especially rapes, which nowadays has entangled India like an epidemic. And unless a strong immunity to counter attack its deadly widespread is not engaged, many a lifes of our mothers and daughters are in serious vulnerability. Overwhelmingly, the only solution which is by enlarge visible and appealing to the masses, in trying to impede this atrocity is the adoption of a leaf out of the Sharia law. The Sharia law has predominantly been proven to be as great deterrent to sexual assaults, rapes, drug abuses, child molestations and providing ample security to women in majority of the Islamic world. The law has been abstracted from the Quran which is the essence of the sharia law and absolute manifesto during the time of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The Sharia looks into all endeavors of the crime and orders a stringent sentence based on the seriousness of the crime committed. A death penalty is usually the central aspect for one who commits rape or fornication if proven guilty. According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report, counties like Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Yemen, which are considered to be strictly Sharia based and in some ways to the democratic world to be autocratic in nature; apparently happens to be one of the safest countries for women to live in, where the combined rape cases of these five countries between 2003 to 2010 are 910 opposed to a staggering 141,713 in India alone,. A recent face book discussion regarding the security of women in Saudi Arabia; led to an astounding reality to know that, majority of the non Muslim expat womens feel much safer living under the umbrella of the Sharia law than living under the law of their own countries. Its so quite intriguing for a world to know that countries which have always been criticized of being oppressive towards women can provide security like no other country of the world has done. America and Britain apparently are the top ten worst rape afflicted countries of the world. India, which has traditionally been a land to different cultures, customs and religions, where people have always lived together acknowledging each others faith and values; sharing the positive aspects of every religion can be inspired by the Islamic Sharia law. The whole nation today is mourning for a system and law which can strongly punish these sexual predators who are causing this atrocity on women and bringing shame to the nation. The law on the other hand is vehemently impotent; in neither stopping the influx of rape crimes taking place in our Many a people who want to impose tighter laws alike Sharia in India, has to remember one thing that, the objective of the Sharia is not just confined to putting people to death when they commit rape or sexual assault. But the punishment is actually a lesson for others who pacify their lusts by unlawful means. As Sharia does punish the culprits as to him being an ordinary man, military personnel, a ministers son or an Actor without any pre conceived prejudice or animosity against anyone; it also does nullify the catalysts of crime to the very grass roots irrespective of the gender. Women living under the Sharia rule should actually dress modesty in public and should not become the medium to instigate a crime. Much of the countries which have implemented Sharia have a code of dressing in public, have legally banned Drugs, prostitution, pornography though all means by magazines, DVDs or by internet. To a certain extent one can argue that our very own film Industry is also a major accomplice in hypnotizing the minds with sexual thoughts and lacking moral responsibility. Most of the movies which are being made today can easily be labeled as 15+, where erotic rape scenes and the exploiting of a womens body is used to the best possible effect, and constantly being shoved down on the screens in theatres and home. Although, the film Industry is filling their pockets; but on the other hand they are polluting the minds of the masses and specially the younger generation. So, Sharia is a mechanism, where its innate nature is to stop the crime in the budding stages itself rather than answering to the consequences later on. It acts as a deterrent by addressing to the very crux of the problem. It would be too early to comment if the government can impose a law like sharia fully fludged, but strict laws can be a good start for something good and specially when the whole nation is craving for one. There are some decisions that are to be made by political correctness and there are some which are made on Instincts and India today is on the verge of falling down and we dont have enough time to fiddle about. A strong feeling of dismal parody subjects the mind with the world looking alike a jungle and humans as animals strangled in the ever so archaic law of the Jungle, Only the strongest survive. How can a country which is not leaving any stone unturned in adapting to new accomplishments and wanting to stand tall in the global foray of latest technological advancements be confined to crippling laws? Its high time that we need to think of a serious reformation in the laws, and events like these are apt platforms to bring in new revolutions.

Ihsaan: Beyond Excellence

This is Part 1 on the series Beyond Excellence: The Making of a Muhsin, by brother MuQeet Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, Assalamu Alaikum. The word I am going to discuss today is Ihsaan The word excellence comes from excel which means to be exceptionally good at something. Excellence also means the quality of being extremely good or outstanding. It is the state of excelling; surpassing merit or quality and the activity etc. in which a person excels (Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary and the New Oxford Dictionary of Modern English). Coming to the Arabic, one peculiarity of this language is that majority of its words are derived from the verbal root. Therefore, the word HASUNA, which means, to be handsome, beautiful, lovely, nice, good; to be expedient, advisable, suitable, proper, fitting is the root word from which following different words are derived: Husn beauty, handsomeness, prettiness, loveliness, excellence, superiority, perfection. Hasan beautiful, lovely, nice, agreeable, excellent, exquisite, handsome. Hasanan well, splendidly, excellently, beautifully. Ahsan better, nicer, lovelier, more beautiful, excellent, more splendid. Al Husna the handsome, the best outcome, the happy conclusion, fair means, amicable manner. Hasana good deed, merits, advantages. Mahsana something nice, good; pl. Mahasin beauties, attractions, good qualities. Tahseen beautification, embellishment, improvement, betterment. Muhasana kindliness, amicability. Ihsaan Excellence, beneficence, benevolence, performance of good deeds. Tahassun improvement, amelioration. Istihsaan preference for the better, acclaim, consent, approval, application of discretion in a legal decision. Muhassin beautifier, improver. Muhsin one who excels others in the performance of good deeds, beneficent, benevolent. Mustahsan commendable, pleasant Words of Arabic language are very rich and eloquent. Moreover, Islamic terms are richer and more eloquent in their meaning and import. Ihsaan, when translated as excellence belittles the very import of the Islamic term. Ihsaan does entail excellence but then goes beyond it. Khurram Murad rightly writes in one of the footnotes: It is impossible to find a word in the English language, which can express, to any fair degree, the real meaning and import of Ihsaan. It means to do a thing well, in the best possible manner, to achieve excellence; to aim at beauty and perfection; and most importantly, to do it as an inner compulsion and urge, not as a consequence of external prodding and urging in brief, a work of love, not merely a duty. This can result from an inner sense of presence before Allah and love for Him. That is why one Hadith defines it as that you serve Allah as if you are seeing Him, for even if you cannot see Him, He is seeing you. Ihsaan is the highest state of Islam. It implies deep attachment, profound love, genuine faithfulness and sacrifice which transforms a Muslim into a Muhsin by making him completely identify himself with Islam. A person who adopts Ihsaan in his thought, behaviour and action is called as a Muhsin. The plural form of Muhsin isMuhsinoon or Muhsineen. PERSONALITY: Don't over do. Keep your limits. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. Dream more while you are awake. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present Happiness. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate anyone. Make Peace with your past so it won't spoil the present. No one is in charge of your Happiness except you. Smile and laugh more. You don't have to win every argument, Agree to disagree. In my country, a majority section claim to be vegetarians and consider eating non-vegetarian food to be grave sin. But I was taken a back today when I went to Kambella where cattle are sold for slaughtering purpose; 90-95% businesses ranging from selling of cattle and slaughtering to fomenting of animal skulls, belong to the same majority section of society. Is it really a grave sin or just a high-end excuse to own high profiting businesses of others?

Life is Not a Bed of Roses!

By: Abida Rahmani told me that there was some problem with her picture, which she needs to change. All other things went satisfactory. I was so glad for her, so I called her mother whom I call bhabhi to congratulate. She told that she still had a bit of fever. May be she was weak or tired. is: insecure and unstable on the streets. One has to be prepared for these kinds of situation. I comforted her and asked her to be grateful to Allah SWT that their lives and honor is saved from those miscreants. She was looking forward to a peaceful life, where both husband and wife could be mutual partners, taking and sharing their responsibilities. Over the years she became the mother of three kids: one daughter and two sons. The oldest one turned fifteen this year, the daughter is nine and youngest one is six years. She was a Montessori teacher at a local school; her mother was quite efficient taking care of the house and the kids mostly. Both mother and daughter got along nicely but she used to get desperate at times. She was friends with me on Facebook. She was a really enthusiastic girl: dresses, hair styles, shoes, a lot of fashionable stuff used to come through her page. Posting pictures used to be her hobby. She had a lot of pictures and albums there on her profile. Kids birthdays, Ameen, Bismillah pictures she used to cover and celebrate all the occasions for them. Once I reprimanded her while she started posting things such as, I miss my hubby. I would say to her, Nasrat there is no need for crying on Facebook. Just pray to Allah for His help. This immigration process has taken a toll on her. After Raza got his citizenship, he was able to apply for them. It took years and a lot of efforts to go through the process. Earlier, many friends and relatives have advised her to apply for a visit visa to USA, to go and stay there. It was not an easy task for this; she has to tell the authorities lot of fake stuff. When she asked me once, I warned her not to follow any thing illegal or a fake way, otherwise she will get into more trouble. Wait and see, and you will get your immigration one day, and now the day has arrived. I feel so happy for her and her family. We the humble creatures of Allah are bonded in destiny and never know what is in store next for us. After a week I saw her post that she is running a high fever and is diagnosed with Malaria. I called her and she told me that she was quite sick for a week, feeling very weak and exhausted. She was planning to go to Islamabad by bus, which is almost a twentyfour hour journey, but now she plans to go by air. She said to me, Aunty, I'll stay with Raza's uncle. They live in Pindi because they felt it bad. I tried to call her cell phone the day she went for the interview to the embassy but my call did not get through. In the evening, Raza Hazrat Abu Sa`id and Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that The Messenger of Allah SAW said, "Never a believer is stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but Allah will expiate his sins on account of his patience.(Al-Bukhari Book 07,Chapter 70, Hadith # 545) She was thrilled with excitement when she called me, Aunty, I have got the papers for our immigrant visa and we are going to Islamabad for our visa by the end of the month. Is it possible that I stay with your brother? The shuttle leaves early in the morning for embassy; it will be easier for me to catch a taxi from Islamabad to diplomatic enclave. Yes, of course. I am so glad to hear that, lots of congratulations. Don't worry, you can stay with my brother and he will drop you at the embassy early in the morning. I'll talk to him and let them know. She assured me, Aunty I have taken off the kids from school, otherwise I had to pay summer vacation fee. I too have resigned from my job. It was so strenuous and I was quite a bit tired. Yes, you should ask Raza to enroll them here after you get visa. I am so happy for you that you are getting united with your husband and coming to the USA. We talked for quite awhile. Nasrat was busy doing all the preparations to come to Houston to join her husband here. After talking to her I sent an e-mail to my brother and he assured me that there is no problem in their stay with them and he will take care of her embassy's pick and drop. Its been almost ten years since her husband, Raza, got immigration through his family and moved to the USA. He was not highly educated but had some skills. He started work in a factory. She was lucky to have support of her mother. Her father had died long time ago; she was the lone child, so both of them lived together in their house. Being a very good driver, last time I was in Karachi, she gave me good rides and took me for shopping and eating around. It is always a blessing provided by some one when you do not have your own car. She narrated me the ordeals when her car got vanished from jumma bazaar. Luckily, she had full coverage and got compensated. On another occasion, she and her mother both were robbed of cash, gold bangles, other jewelry, and her purse got snatched. It was such a big hassle to reissue the ID card and driving license. That is how life in Karachi continued on page 9

She will be okay now, I assured her. After she got back to Karachi, I talked to her for awhile and asked her to book her seat and come here as soon as possible. She was a bit upset with her ongoing high temperature, going to doctors who were doing a lot of tests and not finding some thing specific. At one time she was told that it is typhoid, then liver abscess, and then dengue fever. She was quite a bit upset with her plans tampered and at one point she told me, Aunty I have a lot of pending work, shopping, tailoring, and selling my car. For some of my work, I had to visit Pakistan and went to Karachi. I visited them too with a few gifts. She was a bit pale and coughing. Worried about her ongoing fever, she said, I take panadol (the Pakistani Tylenol) and then it goes a bit down. I am just fed up with this fever and sickness. I got worried too, after two weeks the doctors decided to do a bone marrow test on her and she was diagnosed with acute leukemia. She posted on her Facebook profile, This bone marrow test was so painful... We were just shocked to learn about the severity of the disease. She is so full of life, a thriving woman of thirty-seven years. That is what is called luck and destiny and Allah's will. I discussed with Raza and he informed me that he is going to Karachi and will bring her and the kids with him. My son who is a doctor here in the US told me that there are the best hospitals in Houston for cancer treatment. They should send her as soon as possible. But her family in Karachi decided to start the treatment at the earliest. They admitted her to a cancer hospital in Karachi. Her chemotherapy got started and the doctors seemed quite hopeful and as I learned, she told them to be informed about the whole process. Raza went but came back heart-

Life is Not a Bed of Roses!

The side-effects of chemotherapy made her lose all her hair; she became weak and fragile with each passing day. In her fifth or sixth chemo session, she got lung and respiratory infection. As it happens in Pakistan, the doctors gave up on her. The hospital ventilator stopped working and she was moved to another hospitals ventilator. I visited her and was appalled to see her condition. Doctors and the hospitals were charging huge bills and giving statement every hour that now she is 70% on ventilator and 30% on herself. The cousins in the family kept rushing for arranging blood, plasma and platelets. The mother was totally devastated. On her 10th day on ventilator the doctors told the family that there is no use to keep her further on ventilator and she breathed her last.

Be careful from rumours

Last Friday large number of Muslims started calling each other on phones during the night. Reason was that few people in Mewat region (which lies partly in Haryana and partly in Rajasthan) claimed that a face was visible in the moon. Incidentally, the night was same which large numbers of Muslims in India and in adjoining countries celebrated as "Baarah Wafaat" signifying the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), although there is no authentic evidence that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born on the day. In fact historical facts are against it. It is authentically known that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born on a Monday and during several years when Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was supposed to have been born, it was never a Monday on 12th of the month. Anyway, more important issue was the visibility of a face in the moon and people saying that the face was of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The news spread quite fast through phone calls and large numbers of people in different places claimed to have observed the event. On Sunday two persons, both of them Aalims, visited my place. The senior one is about 65 yrs of age and the junior one about 40 yrs. Both of them are wellmeaning persons and sincere. They have established a good Madarsaa in Delhi and renovated and reconstructed two mosques which were under encroachments. Both of them lead prayers regularly in different mosques. During their visit the junior person told that he too saw the face of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the moon in that night. I asked him a very simple question that no where in the world any photograph or painting of the face of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) exists. Then how could he recognize that the face that was visible in the moon (even if some face was visible there) was of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)? He started thinking about my question and could not come out with any answer. The senior Aalim also supported my question. Finally, the junior one agreed that it was not possible to identify the face of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Finally, he repented on his mistake. And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the patient, Who says, when afflicted with calamity: To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return: They are those on whom (descend) Blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance. (Al-Baqarah 2:155-157) In other verses, Allah Almighty says: He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving. (Al-Mulk 67:2) Whatever misfortune happens to you, is because of the things your hands have wrought, and for many (of them) He grants forgiveness. (AshShura 42:30) There is one hadith in which the Prophet Muhammad SAW tells us that the people who face the harshest trial are the prophets, then those next to them (in faith and devotion), and then the next. Everyone will be tried according to his level of faith; one who has strong faith will undergo a harsh trial and one who is of weak faith will receive a weak trial. And the affliction will encompass one until he becomes free of sins altogether. Whatever befalls us just keep in our mind what Allah Almighty says: So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief, (Surah Al-Inshirah 94-6) In our trying times, in our trial, we seek Allah SWT 's mercy and guidelines through the Quran as we are his humble creatures and it shows That life is not a bed of Roses! Let us pray to Allah SWT for the departed soul to give her high status in Jannah, success, well-being, and harmony for her kids.

Prequalification for Human Procreation

The author supported by another participant demonstrated highest zeal to promote their theory. They cited growing population as a burden on the community and highlighted birth control not only as a shariah compliant act but a desirable practice in Islam on the basis of masleha (public benefit). One of the participant quoted three ahadith to prove his stand but ignored that the same ahadith while allowed coitus interruptus or Azl but clearly stated that the soul, which has to be born until the Day of Judgment, must be born. According to him ijtehad is required to demonstrate desirability of birth control. What is scope of ijtehad when the subject is clear like daylight- what is decreed would come? Do they dare to do ijtehad on Divine decree? Is there any way to know that someone who is castrated would have reproduced? Abortion is a murder and contraception is a probability based venture. Leaving it to Allah is the only desirable act for a believer. This is my understanding on this subject. A quote from debate: So if parents are capable to provide a better education / tarbiyat / tahzeeb o shaistagi to their kids they can go for more children. Otherwise .. The expression sounds like fixing a prequalification to parents for having offspring. If such a prequalification is necessary there must be relevant instruction from Allah or His messenger (PBUH). Is there any such instruction? Allah says, Your wives are your tilth (to cultivate); go, then, into your tilth as you wish but take heed of your future (Al-Baqra:223). According to the above verse our wives are not merely for recreation but for a greater good of the humanity, i.e., procreation to maintain the continuity of human race so that when we depart from this world there should be others to replace us in our tasks. Here future stands for both the future of this world as well as the world hereafter. So taking heed of future implies that one should be concerned with the quality of the coming generation. This doesnt mean that human race is like product of a factory where quantity of production should be limited by demand and acceptable standard of quality. Working for production and striving for good quality of new generation are both sacred duties. The latter part of the verse warns those who deliberately neglect the two duties. Allah is the creator and humans are agents for procreation. So, how can they have right to be choosy in procreation? Everything whether right or wrong happens with the will of Allah; right events are approved by Him whereas wrong ones are disapproved. Every birth that takes place is with His will and approval. So a parent is required to have only one prequalification to be part of this approved event and that is to be a lawful partner through marriage. There is no other prequalification. Effort to make the offspring a responsible servant of Allah is post-event duty and not pre-event eligibility. Some people take children as a burden whereas Allah assures that He shall provide sustenance for them (Al-Anaam: 151). People who dont have courage to take up this assignment from their Lord seek the permissibility of contraception. Though certain methods of contraception are said to be permitted in few circumstances, but doing this for economic reasons shows lack of trust in Allah. There are number of Ahadith in Sahih Muslim where the messenger of Allah (PBUH) issued his no objection to coitus interruptus, but emphasized that nothing can stop a birth decreed by Allah. A question may be asked, if it doesnt serve the sought purpose then why was it allowed? I understand that it was allowed as an ineffective but un-harmful act. I compare this with a hadith where the messenger of Allah (PBUH) had prohibited the practice of blowing to cure diseases, but later allowed when requested by some people. Hadrat Umair, freed slave of Abi alLaham said, "In the pre-Islamic days I had a formula with which I used to blow over the people. I recited it before the Holy Prophet, whereupon he told me to drop out such and such words from it, and permitted me to blow with the rest of it. Any idea to reduce human population in order to raise the quality of populace is ungodly. There is no scarcity of worldly resources. Statistics show that billions of tons of foodstuff are wasted every year. It is the imbalance of distribution that causes many to starve. The worlds 100 richest people earned enough money last year ($240 billion net income) that could end worlds extreme poverty four times over, according to the international rights group and charity Oxfam. The problem is wickedness of ungodly man. Even if the population reduces drastically, the situation shall not change unless the attitude improves. The source of misery of mankind is not the population but greed and commercialization. We need hell lot of money to bestow education to our offspring. Tarbiyat, which doesnt cost anything, carries no value without an educational degree in an ungodly society. Everyone laments the inability of the Ummah to adapt to changing times, but forgets that all the changes dont lead to ultimate benefit. It is essential to distinguish between the beneficial and harmful changes. The Ummah needs to be drivers of only beneficial changes. Doctrine of materialism is the most prevalent ideology among masses, illa masha Allah. Whether embraced deliberately or unwittingly, materialism is a form of shirk. Let us read verses 32 to 42 of Surah Kahaf There was a man whom Allah gave vineyards surrounded with date-palm trees, land for cultivation, and a canal flowing through. The man was proud of his achievements and boasted while conversing with his neighbour, I have more of wealth than you and have mightier men at my service. Then he entered his garden and said, "I don't think that this wealth of mine will ever perish, and I do not believe that the Hour of Resurrection will ever come. Anyhow if ever I am returned to my Lord, I will get even a grander place than this. Allah destroyed his gardens and he began to wring his hands in sorrow saying: "Would I had not associated anyone with my Lord in His Divinity!" Which god the man in the parable did associate with his Lord? No laat, manaat, durga or lakshmi; it was none but materialism?

Women are safe in Islam

Various articles appeared in last issue of Bakhabar about recent incident of rape in India. It has triggered me to take a break from writing Journey to the Day of Resurrection and to let people know about this heinous crime in Islam. Rape is worst scenario of fornication which takes place due to degradation of ethical values, wear & tear of state law-enforcing machinery and lack of modesty. It is also a fact that in a moral-lesssociety the law loses its grip. Islam considers Fornication a worst indecent crime. Why? Because, the bad odor makes the Islamic society a garden based on decency, fineness, purification, glory and of the authorities and get the criminals duly punished by the court of law. The Divine Law does not want that if a person gets polluted in filth in a private place, the other person should start spreading the filth in the whole society. If he has any knowledge of the presence of the filth, there are two ways open for him: either he should let it remain where it is, or he should produce a proof of its existence, so that the officials of the Islamic State should cleanse it. There is no third way for him. If he publicizes it, he will be committing the crime of spreading the filth everywhere; and if he brings the matter to the notice of the officials without satisfactory evidence, they will not be able to deal with it effectively. Islam considers female a sacred. It wants to preserve her sanctity, honour and respect to the best. It can be best possible for her by dwelling at home. Stay at your houses (AlAhzab/33). In interpretation to this Quranic verse, Ibn Umar (R) quoted the Prophet (S) as saying: Women are to be kept in hiding. Indeed when she leaves her home, Shaitan keeps an eye on her. Certainly a woman is closest to Allah when she is in her home (Tabrani). Anas (R) reported that once a group of women came to the Prophet (S) and said, O Prophet of Allah! Men have reaped all the rewards of participating in Jihad; show us a deed which would help us reach the rewards of the Mujahidin. The Prophet (S) replied, Any one of you who stays in her home protecting her modesty and honour will receive the rewards of Jihad. (Musnad Bazzar). Aisha (R) also asked the prophet (S) about her participation for Jihad. He replied, "Womens Jihad is to go for Hajj (Pilgrimage)." (Bukhari). At the same time Islam does not want to make woman captive. It allows her to come out of house for Sharyi (lawful) necessities but covering herself properly in such a way that its outside movement does not bring any wrong notion in the heart of the men. Allah says in (Al-Ahzab/59). Draw their cloaks close round them That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful. Maimunah Bint Sad (R), who was one of the Prophets servants, reported him as saying: A woman who decorates herself for anyone else other than her husband is like such a darkness in the Day of Judgment which has no light in it. (Tirmidh). She also narrated that the Prophet (S) said, "Allah remains displeased with a woman who emerges from her home wearing perfume and gives men the opportunity to look at her, until she returns home." (Tabrani). Similar to these there are many. Modesty (Haya) and maintaining ones honour are of primary importance in preserving the moral fiber of any society. That is why modesty has been called the ornament of a woman, which protects her from many sins and which prevents ill-intentioned men from daring to have bad thoughts about her. This modesty has been made part of her nature to safeguard her from being abused by immoral men. There are many prophets sayings on Haya. Hazrat Omar s (R) preventing a man from walking on street taking hand of his wife in his hand was to maintain Haya. In order to avoid embarrassment, humiliation and distasteful to others in a society Islam checks the lawful things also. Eating in front of Rozedar (fasting man or women) is one of the examples. Even 5-times Salah at Mosque does not come within necessity for women. Abdullah Bin Masud (R) narrated that the Prophet (S) said, It is better for a woman to offer her Salat in her bedroom than in the living room; and it is better for her to offer her Salat in her living room than in her courtyard. (Abu Dawud). In another Hadith, Ummi Salamah (R) has reported the Prophet (S) as saying: the best Masajid (mosques) for women are the innermost rooms of their houses. (Musnad Ahmad). She died praying in innermost room. Both men and women have been asked to keep their eyes down, not to see each other (Ghair-Mahram) intentionally. Allah says in (Al-Noor/30 & 31) Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest In the same verse (31), women were asked not to reveal their adornment to Ghair Mahram. In terms of old lady whose beauty has gone away there is some concession in her Hijab but even it is better for her if she does the same. The above brief description is given to understand how much value Islam gives to women and what methods Islam prescribes to achieve it so that Muslim society can be best protected among all other societies. We can tell people from our action not theory alone that Islamic is the best to be emulated. Indeed Islam is a practical way of life. Muslims lives should be the manifestation of Quran & Sunnah. It helps others understand Islam without going through Quran & Ahadith This is what Allah (ST) wants from us. Unfortunate Muslim societies are being pressured by western under the frame work of Globalization to change Islamic culture, i.e. Quran & Sunnah, like abolition of capital punishment & chopping of hand of thieves, no punishment for fornication if both are agreed, etc. It is said that in order to finish any Deen (religion) finish its culture. However, this is a test for the guardian / supporter of the Muslim societies of their Eiman. Success in test of this life is a success forYoum-u-Deen. =XXXXX=

Albazzar reports that in Hell the foul smell from the private part of the adulterer will emanate and spread to Hell so much so that the Hell dweller will also be annoyed of it. According to the prophet (S) the adulterer, thief and wine-drinker are not at Eiman at the time of doing it (Bukhari & Muslim). Hence, Islam wants that such indecency should be suppressed not to be spread. It is because the bad smell will make the fragrance of the Islamic society ruined. For any crime, 2 witnesses are required but in the case of Fornication 4 eye-witnesses are needed. Not only that the one who accused the other of adultery but failed to produce three other eyewitnesses, was to be punished with eighty lashes. This punishment to informant is not because he told lies but he was unable to produce other 3 eye-witnesses of such crime. Hazrat Omar (R) punished 3 informants in the case of Mughaira, Governor of Basra. Why such harder law? Moulana Moudodi explains in connection with verse 4 from Sura Al- Noor that:1. The indecent crime reporting will pollute the society and none will dare to do it unless 4 eye-witnesses are present. Even if the accuser is an eye-witness of an immoral act, he should keep the secret and let the filth remain where it is instead of causing it to spread. However, if he has witnesses, he should abstain from publicizing the matter in society but should bring the case to the notice

Spring of Islam Conference, Hyderabad

Execution of rapists, We are the Mentor of 11 suggestions by Ourselves Jamaat-e-Islami

Execution of rapists in full public glare, abolition of coeducation and "sober and dignified" dress for girls are among the 11 suggestions made by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind to Justice J S Verma Committee on ensuring safety and security to women. In a statement, JIH said it welcomed the government decision to set up committees to review the present anti-rape law and find out measures to make the society safe for the women against the backdrop of the gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi. It expressed hope the committees will reach the root of the "disease" and find out the cure. The organisation gave 11 suggestions to the three-member panel, which has been asked by the government to submit its report in a month. There should be provision for capital punishment for heinous crimes such as rape. These punishments should be given in public and there should be opportunity for people to witness the same so that it might act as deterrent to such heinous crimes. Co-education should be abolished and proper education facilities meant exclusively for women should be available at all level of education. Educational institutions should prescribe sober and dignified dress for girls," the statement said. The JIH also suggested that physically intimacy should only be permitted to those who are married. All sex outside marriage including live-in-relationship should be declared illegal and punishable," the statement issued by Nusrat Ali, Secretary General of JIH, said. The organisation was of the view that proper transport facilities for woman should be made available particularly in towns and cities, and police reforms should be implemented at the earliest. Marriage should be made easy and timely marriage should be encouraged. All forms of dowry should be abolished; all unnecessary expenditures be curbed and made punishable," the JIH statement said. Electronic and print media, TV programmes, films and advertisements should avoid exposure of women and it should be made punishable. Alcohol, the root of all evils and crimes particularly against women, should be completely banned in the whole country. Criminal laws in this regard should be made more stringent; the judicial procedure be simplified and made speedier," it said. Services of religious institutions and leaders should be sought to reform society, inculcate moral values and bring awareness against crimes especially among the new generation, JIH demanded.

A child is born with a brain fully developed but empty. With the passage of time he gathers information from his surroundings and stores it, day by day there is accumulation of facts in his mental bank. In the beginning he doesnt know anything except crying but as he grows old he starts reacting in different ways other than crying. His actions become conditioned on the basis of his past experiences and he starts becoming his own Mentor. The things he likes he repeats no matter how they will be perceived by the learned ones. Sometimes he gets reward for them and sometimes scolding, so accordingly he modifies his actions. Initially the child has his whole world in his house but slowly and gradually his curiosity takes him outside his usual sphere. Curiosity kills caution and he starts exploring the area which was otherwise prohibited for him, just to know the reason of prohibition. There comes the values acquired by him from his family which limits his actions, but still the last choice lies in his own hands. Casual actions form habits and habits in turn form personality of an individual. Family values and socio cultural environment also play a pivotal role in shaping ones personality. At each and every step of our lives we are influenced by one thing or another but finally it is the self within each individual which illuminates the path of his deeds or rather course of action. Thus we ultimately prove to be our own Mentor.

To Celebrate or Not to Celebrate...

That is the Question
by Asma bint Shameem Some of us celebrate it with great devotion and diligence, while some of us are against it with an equally great vengeance. Some say it is our religious duty while others say it is nothing but bid'ah. People argue about it. Families split up, friends forsake each other. And sometimes people literally fight over it and hurt one celebrating that day as a form of worship. Why? Because there is nothing in the Shareeah that permits me to do that. Also, I cannot start praying three rakaah for Fajr from tomorrow, even if I want to worship Allaah more, because Fajr Salah is only two rakaat as commanded upon us by the Shareeah. And similarly, if there is no order for us to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam), then we dont. In fact, the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: Whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours (i.e., Islam), that is not part of it will have it rejected. (Bukhaari). Now someone might argue that we dont celebrate the Mawlid/Milad as an act of worship. So let's see what other evidences we have. 2. What does the Sunnah say about it? Again, there is nothing in the Sunnah of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) that shows us that the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) EVER celebrated his birthday or that of his wives, children, or Sahaabah. There is not a single hadeeth that tells us that he (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) thought this day was significant enough to celebrate it. Just think.....if there was any good in doing so, wouldnt he would have done so himself and wouldnt he have ordered the Sahaabah to do so? And obviously, it is not possible that he (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) forgot to tell us about it, Aoodhu billaah! Did the Sahaabah celebrate the Mawlid/Milad? The Sahaabah were witnesses to the revelation of the Quraan. They had the Prophet right in front of their eyes. They ate, drank, sat, slept, talked, walked, lived with the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam). If they misunderstood anything or were mistaken, the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) immediately corrected them. And thus, their understanding and practice of Islaam was the best. Yet, when we look at the lives and practice of the Sahaabah, we find that none of them EVER celebrated the birth of their beloved Prophet, whether during his life or even after he passed away. Not Abubakr, not Umar, not Uthman, not Ali, nor Aaishah, Ibn Umar, Ibn Masud, Talha, AzZubair, not a single Sahaabi. Doesn't that prove anything? The Sahaabah absolutely loved the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam). They gave up their homes, families, lives, everything they had... for his sake, in the blink of an eye. Yet this love did NOT promote them to celebrate his birth. This love translated into the practical application of his teachingsand NOT picking the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal as a day of celebration. What about the Four Imaams and other Ulama? Did any of the Imaams Abu Haneefah, Maalik, al-Shaafii, Ahmad, al-Hasan alBasri, do this or command others to do it or say that it was good? No. In fact, it was not even mentioned during the first and best three centuries. The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: The best of mankind are my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. (Bukhaari, Muslim and al-Tirmidhi). And if the 'best of mankind' didnt celebrate his birth, then we shouldnt either. Actually, the celebration of the Prophets birthday appeared many centuries later. By this time, many of the features of true religion had disappeared and bidah had become widespread. Think about it! Can it be possible that the Sahaabah, the Imaams and the people of the best three centuries were unaware of the importance of celebrating the birthday of the Prophet or that they were lacking in their love for him? And it was only those who came later who were aware of it or loved him more?!!! How can that be?!! Actually, dear brother/sister in Islaam, TRUE love of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) is shown and proven by following the guidance that he brought. So follow his Sunnah to the best of your ability and don't fall into innovated forms of worship. It is nothing but a trap of the Shaytaan. Say (O Muhammad): If you (really) love Allaah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allaah is OftForgiving, Most Merciful. (Aal Imraan 3:31) And remember the words of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) when he said: The best of speech is the Book of Allaah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil of things are those which are newly-invented (in religion), and every innovation (bid'ah) is a going astray. (Muslim and al-Nisaai).

Yes, the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal came and went. But, ever wondered..... what is the reality regarding the celebration of the birth of our beloved Prophet anyway? Let's examine the facts. First of all, whenever a Muslim is faced with a problem or confusing situation, what are we supposed to do? Allaah tells us: O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination [Nisaa:59] Referring it to Allaah and His Messenger means to turn to Allaah's Book and the Sunnah of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam). 1. What does the Qur'aan say about the Mawlid? Nothing.Yes that's right.....NOTHING. There is absolutely nothing in the Quraan that tells us to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam). Not one single ayah. You see, all acts of worship are tawqeefi which means that they are not subject to personal opinion and it is not permissible to do any acts of worship except those which are approved by Shareeah. [To you is your way of life, and to me is my way] Prologue: French law bans people from covering their face in public; a violation can result in a 150 fine; authorities say full veils are a symbol of repression and stand against France's secular values.On 22 Sep 2011,Miss Ahmas, 32, was ordered to pay a 120-euro (104) fine, while Miss Nait Ali, 36, was fined 80 euros (70) for violating the ban. The women were arrested when they brought a birthday cake for mayor and MP Jean-Francois Cop, who pushed Europe's first anti-burqa law through parliament. To the French authorities, these women perhaps wanted to say Lakumdeenukumwaliyadeeni. Fines cannot deter us from following our deen (way of life). An emphatic message from the fined French women perhaps was, Harder you try to force us away from our way of life, closer we would get to it, because your chastisement acts as a reminder to us of what the deen of our role-models was. Main story: The convocation program of BITS Pilanis Dubai campus was in progress, in the presence of dignitaries of UAE as well as those from India. Parents enjoyed their wards receiving the hardearned degrees more than the candidates, I thought. However, the students did express their delight at the fruit of labour being handed over to them by Birla himself. Claps and screaming sounds of joy filled the large hall, every time a student gracefully walked the podium to receive his or her treasure. The scene was much different from our own convocation both at IIT-BHU and at XLRI where girls were hard to be seen; here, girls were almost in matching numbers as boys, reflecting a cultural transformation in India as well as in UAE;perhaps, more so in UAE, wherein girls are known to outnumber boys by huge margins in all higher educational institutions.Boys and girls walked elegantly towards the chairman (Kumar Mangalam Birla), shook hands, received the coveted degree along with words of congratulations from the chairman, posed for a photograph to capture this momentous occasion forever, and walked away all smiles, showing off their precious possession, some of them literally leaping with joy right on the podium. Subhanallah! When my son walked the blessed podium, I clapped more profusely, screamed more loudly. However, the intensity of my clapping and the decibels of my scream for my son was not the highest. It went to a girl; a muslim girl. She did all that other girls did, walked elegantly towards the chairman, received the coveted degree along with words of congratulations from the chairman, posed for a photograph to capture this momentous occasion forever, and walked away all smiles. So, what was special about this girl that made me clap more profusely and scream with greater joy than for my own son? When the gracious manof-the-moment, Kumar Mangalam Birla, extended his hands to shake with this girl, she did not extend hers. The wise man pulled his hand back swiftly, and handed over her degree as gracefully as he did for all others; the embarrassment reflecting through his facial expression was only momentary. She was dressed as all other girls, in the convocation dress; however, the hijab on her head was quite conspicuous, even under the convocation headgear. She not only carried her muslim name along, to the podium, but a culture she had close to her heart, perhaps entrenched deep into her heart, mind, and soul; or, maybe she wanted to let the world know she was proud to be a muslim. I thought otherwise. I felt as if without uttering a word she had conveyed loud and clearto the highly respected person she faced, LakumdeenakumWaleyadeen [To you is your way of life, and to me is mine]. This young muslim girl refused to follow the footsteps of many other muslim and non-muslim girls who did not hesitate shaking their hands with the great man in front of them; I thought she declared unequivocally, I refuse to adopt you culture, your way of life, despite my genuine respect for you, sir. For me, the culture given by my Lord means far more than what the world covets. I am not like the ordinary women of my society; I am like the women of my prophets household whom Allah advised to guard their modesty and honour. How I wish I could be like my role models, the ummahat-ul-mumineen, the mothers of the believers! I felt she was sad she had to study in a co-educational institution, where she had to be taught by men most of whom did not know the value of her hijab. I thought she was not happy walking the podium in front of gazing eyes of men; but that was all the compromise she was ready to make. She was definitely not ready to let the hands of a ghair-mahram touch hers; she could at least follow her role models to this extent. Subhanallah! I continue to recall the action of this young ambassador of Islamic values,as it reminds me of the ayah Lakumdeenukumwaliyadeeni and the context in which the ayah (and Surah Al-Kafiroon) was revealed. When the Quraish got frustrated in their attempt to stop prophet Muhammad SallallahuAlaiheWasallam from calling the Makkans to worshipping of One God leaving the man-made gods to themselves, when their insults failed, their plans to kill him failed because of his uncle, Abu Talib, who enjoyed powerful social standing and extended full protection and support to his nephew, the idolaters offered that Muhammad (SallallahuAlaiheWasallam) worship their gods for a year, and they worship his Lord for a year. A constellation of influential polytheists intercepted the Prophet (SallallahuAlaiheWasallam) while he was circumambulating the Holy Kaabah, and made this offer. Arguing, "Should the Lord you worship prove to be better than ours, then it will be so much better for us, but if our gods proved to be better than yours, then you would have benefit from it." Allh, the Exalted, was decisive on the spot and revealed this Surah (Chapter) Al-Kafiroon whose last ayah is Lakumdeenukumwaliyadeeni. In a desperate attempt, later, to stop the prophet, some twenty-five most respectable people of the pagans approached Abu Talib, urging him to stop his nephews activities, which if allowed unchecked, they said, would involve him into severe hostility. Abu Talib was deeply distressed at this open threat and the breach with his people and their enmity, but he could not afford to desert the Messenger too. He sent for his nephew and told him what the people had said, then thereafter adding, "Spare me and yourself and put not burden on me that I cant bear." Upon this the Prophet (SallallahuAlaiheWasallam) thought that his uncle would let him down and would no longer support him, so he replied:"O my uncle! By Allh, if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left on condition that I abandon this course, until Allh has made me victorious, or I perish therein, I would not abandon it." The above saying of our Prophet Muhammad (SallallahuAlaiheWasallam) explains the ayah Lakumdeenukumwaliyadeeni so very well. Subhanallah! Our weak faith leaves us so frail and fragile to the attractive enticements of the seemingly developed world and their social, cultural and religious values that we keep on abandoning the course of our deenmany times over, every day. That is why the young girls public proclamation through a silent gestureis so much valuable. Subhanallah! Epilogue: Qulya ayyuha alkafiroon.La aAAbudu ma taAAbudoon. Say to the unbelievers (kafiroon) that we would never bow to the (prohibited) desires and temptations that you make yourselves subservient of. You keep doing whatever you do. We dont care! However interesting, attractive, or exciting you make those look like, we would never ever accept those as our deen, because we know for sure that they are not the ways of ultimate success. The repetition of the declaration in remaining ayahs adds to the emphasis and importance of the indomitable rejection of the ways of the disbelievers, the ways that iblees calls upon to. (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,( , Al-Hijr, Chapter #15, Verse #39)

The Wall Cup of Coffee

(An e-mail forward shared by a friend) - Undoubtedly Superb I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop in a neighboring town of Venice, the city of lights and water. As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat on an empty table beside us. He called the waiter and placed his order saying, Two cups of coffee, one of them there on the wall. We heard this order with rather interest and observed that he was served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two. As soon as he left, the waiter pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying A Cup of Coffee. While we were still there, two other men entered and ordered three cups of coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They had two cups of coffee but paid for three and left. This time also, the waiter did the same; he pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying, A Cup of Coffee. It seemed that this gesture was a norm at this place. However, it was something unique and perplexing for us. Since we had nothing to do with the matter, we finished our coffee, paid the bill and left. After a few days, we again had a chance to go to this coffee shop. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man entered. The way this man was dressed did not match the standard nor the atmosphere of this coffee shop. Poverty was evident from the looks on his face. As he seated himself, he looked at the wall and said, one cup of coffee from the wall. The waiter served coffee to this man with the customary respect and dignity. The man had his coffee and left without paying. We were amazed to watch all this when the waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it in the dust bin. Now it was no surprise for us the matter was very clear. The great respect for the needy shown by the inhabitants of this town welled up our eyes with tears. Coffee is not a need of our society neither a necessity of life for us. The point to note is that when we take pleasure in any blessing, maybe we also need to think about those people who appreciate that specific blessing as much as we do but they cannot afford to have it. Note the character of this waiter, who is playing a consistent and generous role to get the communication going between the affording and the needy with a smile on his face. Ponder upon this man in need.he enters the coffee shop without having to lower his self-esteemhe has no need to ask for a free cup of coffeewithout asking or knowing about the one who is giving this cup of coffee to himhe only looked at the wall, placed an order for himself, enjoyed his coffee and left. When we analyze this story, along with the other characters, we need to remember the role played by the wall that reflects the generosity and care of the dwellers of this town.

The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death." 426: Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet drew a square and then drew a line in the middle of it and let it extend outside the square and then drew several small lines attached to that central line, and said, "This is the human being, and this, (the square) in his lease of life, encircles him from all sides (or has encircled him), and this (line), which is outside (the square), is his hope, and these small lines are the calamities and troubles (which may befall him), and if one misses him, an-other will snap (i.e. overtake) him, and if the other misses him, a third will snap (i.e. overtake) him."

The ceremony started at 4:15 pm, with recitation of Quran, by Md. Sharique, a student of RCC Muzaffarpur. Dr. Azam Rahmani Sb welcomed the guests and conducted the function.

The 15th Award distribution Ceremony of Rahbar Free Coaching Centre, Bhagalpur started at 9:00 am. Some local guardians were also present during the Award ceremony. After distributing of Awards, the guests expressed their pleasure and appreciation for the valuable service rendered to the society by Bihar Anjuman. They were particularly impressed with the fact that the teachers were devoted to this mission. The students were highly enthusiastic during the function and they were impatiently awaiting the announcement of the prize winner. Later, both the honourable guests blessed the students with their valuable advices and guidance on how to make a success of themselves and make their parents and society proud of them. The function was attended by other elites of the locality and the guardians who thanked Bihar Anjuman for organising and maintaining such a valuable educational centre. The Chief Guest, Er. Sharique Sb, rendered a gorgeous discourse on prominence of education. He said that a student must be prompt in time, and must be disciplined in every custom. He made an appeal to be punctual in the class. One who studies text books himself and is eager to know what the book is saying, is the best student. To get a grand success, a student should be ready to tackle the glitches himself and with the help of class-teachers. Making a schedule, and sticking to it, will make you accomplish the important goal of learning. Pr. Mansoor Alam Sb urged the Muslim community to take up the assigned role of Allahs khalifa on earth, and help the society around them and the country. This means that they must stop begging or demanding from the government, and focus on giving alone, because beggars cant be choosers. He further said, Leadership role can only be assigned to those who are always ready to give, which is confirmed by the holy Quran which talks about giving, not about taking, seeking, or begging from others. The first word that was given to the prophet destined to lead the world was "Iqra" (read), and thats what would make the true believers lead the world once again. So, we need to focus on education alone, if we want to take up the important role of Allas khalifa, and lead in contributing to the development of the country and the world. Finally, the event came to an end after distribution of awards to best performing students (3 categories), the program concluded with dua by Prof. M. M. Alam sb.

20th Awards Ceremony on 16th January 2013 @ Iqra Public Shool, Hathwa Mr. Brajesh Prasad Shrivastawa (Owner and principal of Shantiniketan Aawasiye Vidyaalya, Hathwa) The 20th Awards Ceremony of Rahbar Coaching Centre, Hathwa, started at 2:00 P.M. with the recital of the Holy Quran by Nafisa Firdaus, a student of Std IX. Dr. Manoj Kumar welcomed the Chief Guest and introducing him to the audience he said that the severe cold didnt permit us to hold the prize ceremony in the first week of the month. He said that Mr Brajesh Prasad Shrivastawa is among the first generation of local educationists who popularized English education in this area. He was of the opinion that there are many students whose parents and grandparents would have been the students of his school. He briefed the Chief Guest about Rahbars initiatives. Br Hashmi was invited to present the monthly progress report. He expressed his dissatisfaction on the overall performance of the students and asked the teachers to be sincere and honest. The students of Grade X were asked to be ready and prepared for appearing in the entrance test exams of MANUU and Bihar Polytechnic. He asked Jb Sharfuddin, the teacher of Urdu, to provide glossary of the terms of Science and Mathematics in Urdu. Dr Manoj Kumar announced prizes and said that there was no up gradation prize in Grade IX, and that there was only one such prize in Grade X. Fortune favours the brave. I don't know who has written this line,but whoever that person was,I think he must have done something against the ferocious destiny's will. Its quite impossible to figure out what's stored in for you. There is always a difference between a player and a champion. A player just plays his game,but a champion masters that into him. There are many possible ways by which people loose their momentum in life and go astray. This is when "fortune favours the brave" inspires you. Because no one can help anyone against their own will, even life cant. There are two possible ways to figure out what exactly you want to do. One is to turn a slave to the problem ,curse your life or to come out fighting for your existence. People make history, we exclaim of modernizing it. People need to have different experiences in order to imagine good and wonderful ideas. A competitive nature will always spark your hunger to achieve your goals. Life is a game with so many players playing it,some lucky ones who put there heart and soul comes out with the silverware. Life is a puzzle which is unable to solve, how much you will try to solve it, it will be much easier for you to live. The only thing I want to tell you people is to keep trying till your last breath. Life hardly gives you a second chance, so try to grab the opportunity when it comes to you. I want to end my writing with something which might help you to understand what I said to you above. Its upto you to turn it back and make it a bed of roses. Learn what life is teaching you. Try to become a good student of university of life. Learn from every mistake of yours and try not to repeat it again. The likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Yasser Arafat, Fidel Castro, Mohammad Ali etc aren't divine, they just pushed their limits. Focus has sometimes shifted from the demand for harsh punishment to the victim herself some people in high places seeming to put the blame on the victim herself; and these include people from all walks of life. Media seems to enjoy the heat generated by the crime; it seems they would even pay for such crimes to be committed if the TRP does not meet their target for a few days. Fortunately, this has not actually happened till now. India is not Somalia after all! In Somalia, a journalist and members of a Somali women's rights group bribed a girl to make a false claim that she was raped [Guardian, 18th January 2013]. The media frenzy of Delhi gang-rape case was absent when Jimmy Savile, a BCC journalist (presenter) a celebrity - was found to be one of the most prolific sex offenders in the 129-year history of National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). How come BBC which had reported rapes from all over the world groomed such a rapist in its own yard, and could only expose him after his death! A total of 450 people have made sexual abuse allegations against Savile since October 2012 - of whom 73% were under 18, with most aged 13 to 16, the youngest victim being an 8 year old boy. Saviles sexual offences committed over sixty long years, in hospitals, schools, within BBC premises, could not be detected; is it because these offences were committed by the one who does the reporting? A larger question is why the Indian media did not show the same sense of responsibility (as in the Delhi case) in publicizing such a heinous crime just because it was by someone from their own genre? The blame must again shift to the victims, so Tory MP, Richard Graham, said that women are putting themselves at risk of rape by wearing short skirts and high heels (PTI, 28th Jan 2013)! A Khap panchayat (caste council) in UP (Bhenswal village in Muzaffarnagar district) banned girls from wearing jeans, in January 2011, blaming the attire for provoking eveteasing and encouraging young couples to elope. This was widely ridiculed and promptly condemned by the media, and intelligentsia. The Dimapur chapter of Naga Women's Hoho (organization) asked women to stop wearing "indecent" and skimpy dresses so that they do not attract or provoke crime (Indian Express, 7th July 2011). These blames of the crime back on the victims of crime were deservingly condemned by the media and those who Development Foundation (ASDF) study (24th December 2012). Should we believe the advice of (un)wise men who blame the victims of rape/ assault for provoking the culprits, or should we believe the media which goes wild ridiculing such suggestions? There is much sense in the claim that the ultimate motive behind a rape is show of masculine control and power rather than sexual desire. However, does provocation leading to sexual desire play no role? If men were modest the way Quran asks them to be (lower their gaze and guard their modesty, Quran, 24:30), provocative dresses (or nudity) of the women would not invite trouble. Are men designed by the Creator to be so unmanly as to lower their gaze even at the sight of womens attractive flesh or inviting gestures, and not to get aroused? If not, in order to follow the Quranic advice, they would need to remain within their homes (and let the women expose their body to women alone hope this does not encourage lesbian rapes). There is quite some sense even in the claim that its not the arousal which leads to rape, but the desire to dominate? But, a relevant question is whether the arousal plays no role at all? Or, is it that the arousal caused by the exposed flesh or luring signs (lure may be just a perception, or may be real; whatever), complemented by the manly desire to dominate, combined with the impatience to do so, causes the heinous crime? If the exposed feminine flesh cannot arouse a man, either the flesh is not worthy to be displayed, or the man has some deficiency in his chromosomes. Quran may be the only divine book asking men to keep their gaze away from women; however, all divine scriptures (including Quran) advise women to be modest in behavior, laying emphasis on their dresses. Bible says shave off the head of the woman who does not cover her head; even head may not be exposed, what to talk of the body! Who thinks of raping a nun, even if she is the most attractive woman around? She should not go out with attractive, fashionable, semi-transparent dress. She should wear simple clothing. A comment on this news read, Since you think women who dress immodestly are asking to be raped, you won't object when I punch you in the face and steal your watch. You provoked me by wearing it - I wanted it, so I took it. Well, sleeper-class/ general compartment passengers receive similar advice to keep their hands inside the compartment when the train takes off from a platform (snatching of nose or ear-rings from women, and watches from men, do occur in the lanes and by-lanes of backward districts). In small cities, women do avoid showing off costly jewelry in the streets, for fear of being robbed the injury caused by snatching comes as not so pleasant a bonus! Andhra Pradesh DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy, in a widely reported remark linked women's fashionable dresses to increase in rape cases (January 2012). RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat, said that rapes mainly occur in urban India due to western influence and not in rural India; a BJP minister in Madhya Pradesh, Kailash Vijayvargiya, defending the RSS chief, said that women should not invite trouble by crossing the "Lakshman rekha" (4th January 2013). Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said women should dress in a way that earns them respect and not arouse sexual excitement a statement that evoked strong reactions in the state (22nd July 2012). Vijayvargiya said: "I am sure if women start dressing up decently, perversion will stop automatically." Quoting a businessman friend, he rued how the sale of dupattas has reduced in recent times. Calicut (16/12/2012): Human Welfare Foundation won the award for nationwide outstanding contributions in education. Professor K.A Sidheeq Hassan (General Secretary, Human Welfare Foundation) received the award from Dr. M Abdussalam, Vice Chancellor, Calicut University. The award was organized by Chamber of Education, New Delhi and Calicut University at the university Seminar Complex. The judging committee said the award is given to Human Welfare Foundation for the work it had done for the upliftment of the backward sections across north India. By helping in establishing 44 schools, organizing awards for academic excellence, educational scholarships, scholarships for civil services and slum schools, Human Welfare Foundation has helped a great role in creating educational awareness and motivation for the backward sections. Bihar Anjuman distributes 240 blankets to the needy, in Darbhanga, Sheikhpura, and Chapra (Saran) districts: Benevolent brothers living in Muscat sponsored 80 blankets for each of the three districts, that is, a total of 240 blankets. These blankets were distributed through local chapters, or active organizations in each location. A sum of Rs. 28,470/= was sent to each unit to purchase and distribute the blankets. Total Rs. 85,410/= worth of blankets were arranged for the poor destitute families to fight against a record-breaking winter season in Bihar. Shielding yourself from negativity will help you in many ways such as strengthening your thought process for better personality development, focusing on solutions instead of problems and attaining peace of mind in nearly all kind of tough circumstances.
