Results and Discussion

Contained in Tables 1, 2 and 3 are results gathered in doing three different activities involving density. Table 1 includes the result in measuring the density of a given material in this case, an alloy. Table 2 display the result in measuring the density of the bone while table 3 includes the results in measuring different densities of different liquids using a pycnometer.
Weight of the substance (g) 16.91 g Initial level of the water (cc) 90 mL Final level of the water (cc) 96 mL Volume of the substance (cc) 6 mL Experimental density of the 2.82 g/cc substance (g/cc) Standard density of the substance 2.7 g/cc (g/cc) % Error 4.44 % Table 1. Displacement Method for Alloy Activity1 was based on Archimedes Principle in which an object to be measured is displaced on a water. The measurement of the displaced water is then said to be the weight of the object displaced. In the activity done, an alloy was displaced in the water and gave a volume of 6 mL. The density was then computed giving 2.82 g/cc.

In the second activity, the composition of a given bone was determined by getting its density. The weight of the bone was determined in air and in water by using a balance. It was found out that the density of the bone, 1 g/cc, characterize a bone condition called Osteoperosis.

Weight of the empty pycnometer 8.46 g (g) Weight of the pycnometer filled 34.96 g with water (g) Weight of the pycnometer filled 36.27 g with regular soft drink (g) Weight of the pycnometer filled 34.08 g with diet soft drink (g) Weight of the pycnometer filled 35.19 g with coke zero (g) Relative density of regular soft 1.05 g/cc drink Density of regular soft drink (g/cc) 1.05 g/cc Relative density of diet soft drink 0.97 g/cc Density of diet soft drink (g/cc) 0.97 g/cc Relative density of coke zero 1.008 g/cc Density of coke zero (g/cc) 1.008 g/cc Table 3. Regular Coke vs. Diet Coke vs. Coke zero Different coke samples were weighed using a pycnometer. The relative density and density for each was then computed. Based on the computation done, it was revealed that the density of a diet soft drink is less than of the regular soft drink and the coke zero. When put on water, it is expected that can with the diet coke zero will more float than the can with the regular coke and coke zero for it is less dense.
