4.24. Argentina's current account was in deficit in the period leading up to the crisis, the 1998-2001 period shown here. Therefore it was critical that Argentina continue to attract capital inflows via the Capital Account and Financial Account to offset that. But
in 2001 capital fled the country, as illustrated by the 2001 Financial Account balance of -14,971. The post-2002 crisis period, however, has shown an economy which is attempting to make an economic recovery.
