Let me starts with the definition of tiles. A tile is manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, metal or even glass. It is generally used for covering roofs, floors, walls and others. Usually we found tile is used for finishing floor, walls and bathroom. The difference of floor tiles and wall tile are from their ratting, finishes, thickness, glazing and size. First, the difference in ratings is floor tiles most areas of the house and it all commercial setting should have a P.E.I rating 3, 4 and 5 while for the wall tiles have a rating of 0, 1 or 2. The National Floor Covering Alliance utilizes a P.E.I Wear Rating System to calculate the durability of tiles. This show that the rating each tile is very important. Second, difference in finishes. For the wall tiles are generally smoother and slicker than floor tiles, especially when wet. Often, floor tiles will be textured in order to make we safer to walk on and more slip resistant. Wall tiles may also have uneven finish, which would make us inappropriate for use on the floor. Third, difference in thickness. The floor tiles are generally more thicker than wall tiles. This is because floor tiles need to be thick enough to withstand foot traffic, heavy furniture and impact from falling object. The thickness of tiles about inch to inch. This tile usually depends on the material. Some material can be thicker or thinner that the standard. For example, mosaic floor tiles tent to be thinner, whereas natural stone can be thicker. This thickness difference from wall tiles because wall tiles do not need to absorb any of these stresses, the can be thinner and more fragile. Fourth, difference in glazing. Floor tiles must either be manufactured with a glaze or capable of absorbing a glaze to make the waterproof. But wall tiles are usually glazed with a semi glass or matte finish. The result is may be to porous. Porous wall tiles should not be used in a backsplash. Fifth, difference in size. Both floor and wall tiles are available in a wide range of sizes. Some decoration tiles may be as small as 1 x 1, while some larger tiles may be big as 3 x 3 or larger. Generally, the commercial mortar that adheres tiles to the surface cannot hold tiles larger than 12 x 12 on a wall. Larger tiles attached to wall will require specially formulated mortar.

As the conclusion we can made is, floor tiles and wall tiles has a difference in each other specification. We need to choose the right tile for floor and wall so we did not have to bear the loss in case of damage.
