We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions are faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit ourselves to be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all members to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all. Notes from the Pastor: Those who were born in 1974 up, thank God your mother decided not to abort you! Here you are, alive! This Tuesday is the 40 th anniversary (January 22, 1973) of the infamous ruling Roe vs. Wade. As we all know since then, over fifty millions of innocent lives and counting have been massacred through abortion! People were sad and angered when kids were killed in Newtown, CT. Why does many of them cannot feel the same when it comes to abortion. I have the feeling it was not so before it was ruled that the life in the womb is not a person. After that, people found alibi to harden their hearts resisting the pangs of their conscience. There are lots of valid and strong arguments against this ruling, but as space here is limited, suffice to say my own simple thought: why is it double murder when you kill a pregnant woman if the fetus is not a person? This anniversary is a reminder for all of us to deepen our faith in God and faithfulness to the churchs teachings especially on human life. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, Human Life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a personamong which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. (No. 2270) Believing, we have also to move into action. The Blessed Pope John Paul II came to this country five times, and on two of those visits declared word for word the same message: As he departed Detroit, Michigan, in 1987, and six years later, as he arrived in Denver, Colorado, he said: America, you are beautiful and blessed in so many ways... But your best beauty and your richest blessing is found in the human person... The ultimate test of your greatness is the way you treat every human being, but especially the weakest and most defenseless ones If you want equal justice for all, and true freedom and lasting peace, then, America, defend life! Let us pray for all our delegates from our parish and throughout the diocese to the March For Life Next Sunday(01/27/2013) 10:00 AM Max Adams, E. Sisney, E., C., A. Doherty, Mitch Adams Nancy Hofer Doug Lopeman Ron & Mary Breneman
in Washington, DC for their safety and good health. You are all invited again to support our delegates by joining us in our send off mass this Wednesday at Saint Michael Church at 6:30PM. Ninety six of them throughout Southeast Kansas will converge in our parish and the bus will depart from here after their dinner at the hall. I am inviting all of you to come and join us for mass this day as a sign of solidarity and support! Aside from that we are also encourage to pray for the end of abortion and offer some personal sacrifices like fasting this Tuesday for the same intention. You may access the diocesan website to read more about this moral issue. May the words of Mother Teresa inspire us to pray and to act as she said, The greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion, which is war against the child Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. Prayer to End Abortion: Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, and never to stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected, and our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice not just for some, but for all, through Christ our Lord. Amen! (This prayer was written by Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director Priests for Life.)

This Monday, Jan. 21, our nation honors one of the most famous civil-rights leaders: Martin Luther King, Jr. His actual birthday was last week on Jan. 15; however, when the first observance was set in 1986, the wisdom of Washington decided on the third Monday in January. Mistake. It has now dwindled to a 3 -day weekend for recreation like Memorial Day. Some schools even take the extra day for a longer weekend and close, rather than remain open for programs and educational assemblies to teach students about this fearless man who changed the course of history and Americas culture.

January 22, 1973: A Sad Day for America Can you recall what you were doing in Jan. of 1973? We ran a business in Arma and I was starting a new semester of college teaching. Helen and I kept occupied just handling three grade-school kids with studies and activities. We werent as concerned about outside news then. Of course, some of you hadnt been born yet when the U.S. Supreme Court decided by a 7-2 vote that it was legal to take the life of an unborn child. Since that infamous day, over 53 million children have been cheated of life. This averages to 1.3 million a year or 3600 per day! There was other news that day. Former Pres. Lyndon Johnson died at his Texas ranch and George Foreman defeated Joe Frazier in a boxing match. The Vietnam War would be ended the very next day. What a terrible carnage weve accumulated for ourselves because weve lose respect for human life. To bring this slaughter home, more human beings have died at the Tiller Clinic in Wichita that ALL of the Americans killed in the Vietnam War! In 2003, a former St. MarysColgan student of mine went to the Tiller Clinic to peacefully demonstrate. She saw a parade of young women (some visibly pregnant) walking into that death chamber, not knowing that theyd be forever scarred when they came out. Many believe that life begins at birth, but this generation is the first to grow up in an age where their babybook has their first picture, a SONOGRAM, taken when they were only 3 months in the womb! It IS a baby! We can see the outline and we heard the heartbeat earlier in the doctors office. How much more proof do people need? We see surgery now that occurs on babies IN THE WOMB! Opinions on abortion are changing as the younger generation sees it as violence toward children. Polls show that 63% of high school seniors now believe abortion is morally wrong. Since abortion began in the U.S., weve seen schools and workplaces exploding in violence, horrible child abuse, and now a rise in suicides. Our mission today, if this practice is to end, is to respect ALL LIFE because it is a GIFT. Who do you think is the GIVER? Its not science. Lets all do lots of praying. Articles by Marcel Normand
