PROJECT 1

Stroke & Counterform

ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVES AND DESCRIPTION
To develop an awareness of letterforms design (stroke, counterform, anatomy) within type classifications. To create a digital composition that considers the relationship between positive/negative space through cropping, scaling, rotating. Using Adobe Illustrator this project will consist of 12, 3 x 3 squares with one single letterform in each square. Each square must show a specific typeface within a specific classification and each letter must show enough of the detail of the character to be visually identifiable. The type may be black in a white square or a white (reverse type) in a black square. Consider the positive and negative space within each square to create visual balance. Choose one typeface for each row, but vary the type styles within the family. Each of the 12 squares must use a different letter. Use both uppercase and lowercase letters. On a separate lettersize page name each type classification on a grid as shown. Determine your margins, be consistent with spacing. Type each classification, typeface and letter in the correct typeface. Do this in Illustrator or Indesign.
