ANSYS ED 10.0 has been retired at release 13.0
Product was primarily used as a marketing tool. Very low quantities deployed in 2009 & 2010. Legacy 10.0 Workbench GUI likely doing more harm than good! Use largely replaced by Academic Teaching with license borrow. Remove ANSYS ED website info. as part of the 13.0 content update. Can address any multi-year agreements that are underway with
remaining CD kits in stock.
We plan to introduce a replacement student product at

release 14.0 called ANSYS Academic Student

Academic CFD Integration FLUENT Pre & Post Processing

The following applies to ANSYS Academic products that contain FLUENT at release 12.1:
Using FLUENT 12.1 within the Workbench environment: DesignModeler & ANSYS Meshing are used for preprocessing. FLUENT is an integrated pre-solve-post application. There arent separate applications for Pre or Post, like CFX has. FLUENT users can read in the mesh; set-up their BCs, physical
models, solver settings, etc.; iterate; and post-process all without leaving the single FLUENT application. You can choose to use FLUENTs integrated post-processing or postprocess with ANSYS CFD-Post.
Using FLUENT 12.1 in stand-alone mode (outside of WB): If a user has licensed Academic GAMBIT/TGrid they can use it for preprocessing. FLUENTs integrated post-processing can be used as can ANSYS
CFD-Post.

Compatibility with legacy FLUENT 6.3
Solved FLUENT 6.3 databases can be imported by FLUENT 13.0 & post processed using the bundled CFD-Post. Cases set-up in FLUENT 6.X, but not yet solved, can be imported into FLUENT 12.1 FLUENT 6.3 UDFs: Usually when moving to a newer FLUENT version, UDFs need to be recompiled. Sometimes calls in the solver have changed, and the user needs to modify the UDF accordingly before recompiling. This is not a difficult process.

Importing legacy GAMBIT mesh data
Neither ANSYS Meshing, nor ICEM CFD can read a GAMBIT database model (*.dbs). An existing mesh (*.msh) file can be imported directly into FLUENT 12.0/12.1/13.0. ANSYS Meshing can read meshes & cases saved by GAMBIT, TGrid, and FLUENT 6.X. ANSYS Meshing can read *.msh through the use of FEModeler Read the *.msh file into FEModeler, skin it and take the mesh and geometry skin to ANSYS Meshing. ANSYS ICEM CFD can also read *.msh files.

Licensing Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing a licensing issue heres your checklist: Make sure that you have installed the release 13.0 academic product & are not trying to use your new license file with an older installation! Do not try & work out what product or features you should have by looking at the license file.
Identify what product you have by reviewing your License Form. If in doubt contact your site coordinator or ANSYS sales contact.
Once the 13.0 academic product has been identified, then use the academic product features table on the academic public website to check what features should be available.

Compatibility of 13.0 Licenses
Because there have been no changes to the Academic License keys

since Release 12.0:
Release 13.0, 12.1 & 12.0 academic license keys do not function with
11.0 product installations.
R13.0 & R12.1 license keys function with R12.1 & R 12.0 product installations. R12.0 & R12.1 license keys do function with R13.0 & R12.1 product installations. Valid only if the product license existed at that release of course!

Fluid Structural Interaction

The MFX solver allows a two way Fluid Structural Interaction analysis to be performed between the ANSYS Mechanical (or Multiphysics) & the CFX solvers. The following academic products will provide access to the MFX solver: Note that a single task license will allow both the CFX & Structural solver to run simultaneously for an MFX solution.

Academic Teaching:

Academic Associate:
May only be used for industry related research, degree and/or nondegree related research, student instruction, student projects, and student demonstrations.

Commercial Entity Use of Academic Products?

Generally, academic licenses can be sold to commercial entities under the following conditions:
The commercial entity is sponsoring a Masters or PhD candidate or Diploma, and the academic student being sponsored is the person using the software. Academic Teaching licenses used within a major accounts training facility. In all cases all work performed with the academic license must be nonproprietary in nature.
Our academic products may not be used for:
Benchmarking. Commercial validation projects Commercial/industrial research. Consulting performed by academic students/faculty/staff. Student interns working at the commercial entity.

Allows one or more tasks from a multiple task license to be borrowed. n-1 tasks may be borrowed from an n task license Maximum borrow duration is 1 week. Early borrow return is enabled. MCAD connections will have the borrow capability. The unlimited DesignSpace capability does NOT have the borrow capability. Borrow is turned OFF by default. It is turned on by request, is free & requires an End User certification form
& additional language on the license form.
