2013 PLAA Annual Meeting

Ramada Inn 1450 Atherton St., State College, PA 16801 814-238-3001 As requested by the membership, the focus of this years PLAA Annual Meeting will be Care of the Geriatric Llama. Dr. Charlene Arendas will be the speaker. She and her mother, Debbie, are owners of Spacey Acres Llama Ranch in Ohio. They have been breeding and showing for many years. She will also be presenting a session on a broader topic of current issues in llama medicine. Questions from our attendees will be welcomed. As an added attraction, we will have a short session on Care for the geriatric camelid owner. In conjunction with the vet program, we will be inviting Penn State veterinary science students with an interest in camelid medicine to join us.

For our fiber enthusiasts, Carol Reigh and friends (and she knows Everyone!) will be sharing photos and facts from the Co-op fiber processing day held last summer. It was hot and humid, but a valiant group of llama owners cleaned, sorted and graded an incredible amount of fiber for further processing. Come and learn some of the practical aspects of and equipment for preparing fiber. As usual there will be a membership meeting. Included in the discussion will be a report on the Year of the Working Llama event for Ag Progress Days, and proposals for a future camelid show/event. Come with suggestions and a willingness to help us expand our membership and public visibility in Pennsylvania. The annual Silent Auction will take place to raise money for camelid research.
