Adam Katz Ant 104 November 10, 2010 Tombs of Today When analyzing the Neolithic period anthropologists

take an in-depth look into what the people of the stone age left behind. They looked deeply into the midden hills, burial grounds, city planning, city layouts and monuments. Anthropologists found that the people of the Neolithic period were very community and religious biased society. The Neolithic people spent a great amount of time and man power building grand structures like Stonehenge, Great pyramids, Temples and Tombs of religious leaders and rulers. Archeologist from the future researching this time period would see a great many similarities between the Neolithic period and today. Even with all of our technological advancements human society still emulates a lot of what the Neolithic people started. Most individuals are buried in mass cemeteries while leaders like Abraham Lincoln and General Grant are buried in massive tombs. We still keep our dead buried close as a reminder of the past; in fact three cemeteries surround Northern Arizona University. And in most religions we believe that our ancestors are still looking down from the afterlife to watch over and protect us. City planning is also relatively the same. When we compare Nineveh to Phoenix we see that both

are built in a grid pattern with the Elite in the central Northeast and the poor in the southern west. However there are many substantial differences that the future anthropologists would notice. Housing now a days generally only hold one or less families while the long houses of the Neolithic generally held a family, the extended family and all of the farm animals. This reflects our advancement in technology; instead of building community homes we build massive apparent structures to house about one person per apartment and rarely a family. Also the monuments of today reflect our advancements in technology. No longer fascinated buy large circles or pyramids the monuments of today, like Mount Rushmore, reflect out mastery of our environment and the elements within it. There is a lot of evidence leading future archeologist to see that womens rights have changed dramatically. Books of law, land titles, bank statements and, textbooks all show women voting, owning businesses, owning land, becoming wealthy and being lawyers and doctors. Future archeologist would see that womens rights and roles in society had changed dramatically in our time period. Future archeologist would see that our society was based more on the individual then on community based on our housing, our cemeteries and our city layouts. They would see how technology affected how we live, how we built our society, and how we lived in general.
