INTRODUCTION:Kupwara District is the backward frontier District of Jammu & Kashmir, full of scenic beauty.

District Kupwara was carved out form erstwhile District Baramulla in the year 1979. Kupwara District is situated in the state of Dark forests and rich wild life it noteworthy from tourism and wildlife point of view. District Kupwara was carved out from erstwhile District Baramulla in the year 1979. Nature has been very kind to Kupwara. The District Headquarter Kupwara is situated at a distance of 90 kms from the summer capital of state, i.e. Srinagar. As per 2001 India census, kupwara had a population of 14,711. males constitute 61percent of the population and females 39percent. Kupwara has an average literacy rate of 55percent which is lower than the national average of 59.5percent. District Kupwara was originally part of erstwhile undivided Barmaulla District. District Kupwara was carved out of district Baramulla in July 1979. people of this district have a painful experience of partition of India and unnatural division of the state. Kupwara District has got 4 colleges, 22 Higher Secondary Schools and 1289 Educational Institutions. Occupying an area of 2379 sq. km, Kupwara District (5300 m above sea level) is encircled by the Line of control in the northwest and Baramulla District in the South

In Kupwara, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. Majority of the People of Muslim while there is small community of Sikhs in both Kupwara and Handwara Tehsils. Kashmiris are the largest ethnic group followed by Paharis and Gujjars. In Kupwara and Handwara Tehsil Kashmiris form the majority and Gujjars and paharis live in upper areas of these regions. However paharis speaking people for majority in remote and hilly Tehsil of Karnah. There are three badpocket areas, namely Machil, Keran and Karnah located near L.O.C which remain land locked for more than six months in a year. There are some other areas located at barbed distances and remain cut off from District Headquarter for a considerable time. Like Kumkadi, Lashdat, Jumgund, Kethanwali and Budnambal. The district is located between 730-16 North latitude and between 340-21 East longitude. The total area covered by the District is 2379sq.km and is located at an altitude of 5300ft above the see level. Educational Scenario:Kupwara has a literacy rate of 50.50%. The district has got 04 Higher Education Institutions 22 Higher Secondary School and 1289 educational institutions. Govt. Degree College Kupwara is the largest college in the District with total enrollment exceeding 3000. New private English medium schools are also creeping up. To suggest the ways for the improvement of education in the District and methods to combat the decreasing enrollment and educational standard in the schools of zone Karalpora. As the fate of the country lies on girls their upliftment can bring about the social change. The investigator being the local resident of Kralpora zone of Kupwara district feels it feasible to se the educational scenario of Zone as no study of such is conducted so far.
