Abstract:
Most of the Computer related applications are based on Internet. World Wide Web (WWW) has brought a drastic change in every field from mailing service to the delivery of pizza. But, there are people who gain by using Internet for commercial purposes. Generally, this is done by sponsoring sites and using sites for advertising. By doing this, most of the users are vexed with the irrelevant matter they find on these pages. Most of the users hate to see such unwanted material while surfing the sites. Such type of irrelevant material on a site includes sponsorships, advertisements, site promotion, pornography etc. Sometimes opening a page automatically pops up into other advertising sites, which may or may not be the users choice.

It blocks out completely the part of pages, which does not match the users taste. Now, the most important thing is it allows user to access all parts of the page (including ads) for the first time. Next time when the user revisits the same site, it checks the users previous choice (number of clicks he made on particular ad) and blocks all other things, which were out of his choice. This includes two algorithms to sort out the pages in the order and when to block the ads depending on the clicks. The advantages in using this Ad hack are it is user friendly and automatically blocks the unwanted material. User has a choice of resetting the page to its initial form, if he wants to view it without blocking. This work is confined to html and asp pages in its beginning stages.

FEATURES OF AD-HACK: ABOUT: Ad-hack is software that can be installed on a web browser which is completely confined to personal computer but not on the net. Installing the software includes an adhack toolbar to the browser. This toolbar consists of all the features of ad-hack pop-up blocker. Whenever a page is opened it activates automatically. PROCEDURE IT FOLLOWS: Whenever a user opens a web page, this software keeps track of the choices made by the user on the pop-ups and keeps track of it. When the page is opened for the next time, all the pop ups which are not clicked by the user in the first access will be blocked, so as to remove the unwanted matter [for that user] in that page. It does not block the pop-ups for the first time; it observes the users behavior with that page in the first access. CLICK BASED: For example: If we consider there are four pop-ups on a page. Now, when

a user opens that page for the first time, if he feels all those four pop-ups are unwanted he doesnt click them. The behavior of the user is observed by adhack and keeps track of the number of clicks he made on those pop ups. Next time, when user accesses that page he will see all the unwanted pop-ups BLOCKED. So, this way ad-hack is completely based on the choices made by a user make on the pop-ups. This way user can completely avoid the unnecessary matter on his most frequently accessed sites. USER FRIENDLY: This software is user friendly. As there are many types of users. Some users might not want to see unnecessary popups on the sites and some may feel popups are important. For the people who dont want to get pop-ups blocked, they have a feature in the toolbar called UNBLOCK ALL. Using this button they can unblock all the popups. They can also click on particular blocked pop-up to get unblocked.

HOW DOES IT WORK

IN HTML: Source code of a page includes html and various pre hypertext processors. Generally pop-ups are those which are mostly small programs like JAVA applets being called in html. So, this software keeps track of number of times such methods [pop-up] are being called in the first access. If a [pop-up] method is not called at least once [i.e., it is not clicked at least once] it ADVANTAGES: The main advantage that AD HACK provides is user can find only necessary elements on his most frequently visited pages. It blocks all the unwanted popups basing on the number of clicks made by the user on popups in his first access to that website. It wont block anything in the first access whereas it uses the first access for observing the choices made by the user on pop-ups. It unblocks the wanted pop-up just by clicking at the point.

This BLOCK function stops such methods which are not being called at least once in the first access of the page such that avoiding unnecessary methods [pop-ups] being called. If a pop-up method is called more than once, it will not invoke BLOCK function. Whenever user wants to reset the site from blocking, all the blocked methods are unblocked automatically whenever a button called UNBLOCK ALL is clicked. All this procedure is done only when user access a page for at least once.

The main difference that ad-hack makes with other pop-up blockers is it is completely based on the users behavior and the number of clicks he made on pop-ups. User friendly. It is completely confined to the personal computer and a kind of software which can be installed on the browser and it has nothing to do with the world wide servers. OTHER PROCESSORS:

It also works with other processors other than html but by following different methodologies. Presently we are considering html throughout the paper.

Here, let us consider an example of citi bank site with two pop-ups namely SIGN IN ON ACCOUNTS and HOME EQUITY LOANS. For the first time, the user will be able to view the site like this.

In the above shown page we have two pop-ups where as sign on is a pop-up. At this stage, there are two cases. In the first case, in the first access when the user clicks on sign on block it wont get blocked whenever he visits the page next time. In the second case, if the user clicks on Home

Equity Loan pop-up and not the sign on pop-up in the first access, the sign on pop-up gets blocked forever. In such cases there is an option of unblocking the blocked popups. Following shows the unblocking methodology.

This is the case where users choice is sign on to you accounts in the first attempt. Since, Home Equity loan was not the choice of user in his first attempt it got BLOCKED.
