Academic Honesty It is the responsibility of the student to review and follow Villanova's policy and code of academic integrity. Academic Integrity is vital to any university community for many reasons. Students receive credit for doing assignments because they are supposed to learn from those assignments, and the vast majority does so honestly. Anyone who hands in work that is not his or her own or who cheats on a test, or plagiarizes a paper, is not learning, is receiving credit dishonestly and is, in effect, stealing from other students. As a consequence, it is crucial that students do their own work. Students who use someone else's work or ideas without saying so, or who otherwise perform dishonestly in a course, are plagiarizing or cheating. In effect they are lying. Such dishonesty, moreover threatens the integrity not only of the individual student, but also of the university community as a whole. Academic Integrity lies at the heart of the values expressed in the University's mission statement and inspired by the spirit of Saint Augustine. When one comes to Villanova, one joins an academic community founded on the search for knowledge in an atmosphere of cooperation and trust. The intellectual health of the community depends on this trust and draws nourishment from the integrity and mutual respect of each of its members.

Course Description In this course, students will learn about the traditional as well as expanding role of training in organizations. The role of training has broadened beyond training program design and delivery. In todays work environment, organizations that use innovative training practices are likely to report better financial performance than those that do not. In addition to training essentials and fundamentals, this course explores these new and innovative practices. Instructional training remains important, but training professionals are increasingly being asked to create practices and systems for individual and organizational performance improvement that go beyond traditional classroom training. The concept of training has changed from a one-time event to an emphasis on learning that can occur through a variety of methods: collaboration, online learning, traditional classroom training, team training or a blend of methods. Course Objectives In this course, students will develop a knowlegebase of the following:

Special Instructions Library eReserves Some courses require reserved library material that is accessed electronically through the Villanova myNova portal. For details on how to access reserved reading, click here. If this course uses eReserves, the information will be listed in the "Textbook" area of this classroom website. Discussions Students are expected to participate in the online discussions using the Message Board. Each student must post twice per forum. One post must be an original post on a topic not already discussed (or a clearly different application of a topic already discussed). Original posts should be about 200 words. The second post must be a response to a classmate's post. You can agree and elaborate or you can disagree and politely explain why. Response posts should be about 100 words. Although word counts are provided, understand that the quality of what you write is as important as the quantity. Please be careful to use academic decorum for all posts. "A" grade work is thought-provoking, presented logically, draws others into the conversation, responds to classmates' posts in an engaging and respectful manner, and has no more than one spelling or grammar error. Virtual Class Sessions Students are required to participate in weekly virtual class sessions facilitated by the course instructor. The sessions are live and conducted in real-time. Your instructor will provide the necessary access information, as well as the weekly schedule. These sessions will typically involve discussion of a topic or article assigned by the instructor prior to the session. All sessions are recorded. If you are unable to attend a live session, you are still responsible for accessing the recorded session and reviewing all content presented. See the Grading section for details of how participation is graded. For setup and details go to this website. To fully participate, it is highly recommended that you have a microphone as well as speakers or headphones.

Part of your virtual class grade is based upon your level of preparedness. Students are allowed to miss one (1) live session without penalty. In the event that students miss more than one session, they can complete make-up work by listening and viewing the archived session, then provide written reflection and answer knowledge questions provided by the instructor. Students who miss 2, 3, or 4 live sessions, but complete the make-up work, can receive a maximum of 5% of the class participation credit. Students who miss five or more sessions will receive 0 credit, regardless of whether they complete make-up work. Grades will be assigned according to Villanova's "Grades Defined" available at the Office of the Registrar. The following scale will be used to assign letter grades: Percentile (%) Letter Grade Raw Point Score Percentile (%) Raw Point Score Letter Grade 93 - 100 90-92 87-89 83-86 80-82 77-79 A AB+ B BC+ 1110-1200 1074-1109 1038-1073 990-1037 954-989 918-953 73-76 70-72 67-69 63-66 60-62 Below 60 870-917 834-869 798-833 750-797 714-749 713 or below C CD+ D DF

News/Message Board/Email. Reading and Case Studies Come prepared to discuss assigned reading and case studies in your weekly virtual class sessions. Part of your virtual class grade is based upon your level of preparedness. Discussion Boards Students are expected to participate in the online discussions using the Message Board. Students are also encouraged to respond to offtopic discussion board posts from classmates. For virtual classroom setup and details go to this website. To fully participate, it is highly recommended that you have a microphone as well as speakers or headphones. Digital Drop Box You will use the Digital Drop Box to upload assignments that need to be submitted to the instructor. Assignments are due as indicated in your syllabus. If an assignment needs to be submitted using the Digital Drop Box, you will see a button labeled Submit Assignment. Documents uploaded to the Digital Drop Box are time-stamped; once uploaded, a document cannot be deleted. Nor can you upload documents with the exact same name. If you need to upload a new version of a document, put a version number in the filename (v2,v3, etc); your instructor will review/grade the most recent document. If you do not see your document in the Digital Drop Box, then it failed to upload and you should try again. Note: The size limit for uploads and attachments (digital drop box, email and Message Board) is 8MB per file. If a file exceeds this limit, it will not upload or attach; you will need to split the file. If you continue to have problems, immediately report to Technical Support and your instructor who can approve an alternate submission method, such as email outside of the course website. Please note: if an assignment requires submission to a plagiarism checker (i.e., such as TurnItIn), then you will need to submit the assignment to both the checker and the Digital Drop Box.
