large sélection d'articles de Jacques Bergier
parus entre 1948 et 1960, dont la plupart
n'avaient jamais été repris depuis leur
première parution il y a maintenant un demi-
siècle, et dont certains s'avéraient très difficiles
d'accès (les chroniques du fanzine Ailleurs). À ce
corpus déjà conséquent, s'ajoutent de
copieuses annexes - polémiques, critiques,
essais, dont une étude inédite par Joseph
Altairac autour de Jacques Bergier et de son
oeuvre.

the 1900s, pulp magazines—costing a dime and
filled with both fiction and nonfiction—were a
staple of American life. Though often
overlooked by popular culturalists, sports were
one of the staples of the pulp scene; such
standards as the National Police Gazette and
All-Story carried some sports stories, and
several publications, such as Sport Story

distinctly American genre from 1924 to 1969
At the height of the Jazz Age, when Prohibition
was turning ordinary citizens into criminals and
ordinary criminals into celebrities, America's
true crime detective magazines were born.
True Detective came first in 1924, and by
1934, when the Great Depression had
produced colorful outlaws like Machine Gun
Kelly, Bonnie and Clyde, Babyface Nelson, and
John Dillinger, the magazines were so popular
cops and robbers alike vied to see themselves
on the pages. Even FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover
wrote regularly for what came to be called the
"Dickbooks," referring to a popular slang term
for the police. True Detective, American
Detective, Inside Detective, Real Detective,
Master Detective, Startling Detective and
others were at their peak in the '30s, with
gorgeous painted covers and Jim Thompson
covering the crime beat. As the decades rolled
on, the magazines went through a curious
metamorphosis, however. When liquor was
once more legal, the Depression over and all
the flashy criminals dead or imprisoned, the
"detectives" turned to sin to make sales. Sexy
bad girls in tight sweaters, slit skirts and
stiletto heels adorned every cover. Coverlines
shouted "I Was a Girl Burglar For Kicks," "Sex
Habits of Women Killers," "Bride of Sin!," "She
Played Me for a Sucker," and most succinctly,
"Bad Woman."

La Première Guerre mondiale est l’événement
matrice du xxe siècle, dont l’ampleur et les
conséquences ont été considérables. Décennie
après décennie, sa présence au sein de la
société française, loin de diminuer, s’est au
contraire accrue. 14-18 est devenue la
métaphore des horreurs du siècle dans son
ensemble. Cela, le cinéma l’illustre sans doute
mieux qu’aucun autre art. Mobilisé pour ses
ressources de captation de l’histoire, comme
pour ses vertus pédagogiques, propagandistes
et divertissantes durant le conflit lui-même, le
cinéma est, depuis lors, la mémoire la plus
sensible et la plus populaire de la Grande
Guerre. En témoignent des centaines de
bandes tournées sur le front, la popularité du
« cinéma aux armées « , puis de nombreux
films, documentaires mais surtout de fiction,
réalisés en 90 ans. On trouve là de grands
classiques, patriotique comme J’Accuse d’Abel
Gance, pacifiste, comme Les Croix de bois de
Raymond Bernard, et des films critiques, tel
Les Sentiers de la gloire de Stanley Kubrick qui,
en 1957, marque une inflexion profonde dans
la représentation de la guerre. Et bien sûr des
oeuvres récentes soulignant l’empreinte de ce
passé guerrier aujourd’hui ; entre autres,
Capitaine Conan de Bertrand Tavernier, Un
long dimanche de fiançailles de Jean-Pierre
Jeunet... Richement illustré, avec 250 photos
et documents, pour beaucoup inédits, voici le
premier livre album sur les films de la Grande
Guerre. Dans le Nouvel Observateur, Pascal
Mérigeau dit de ce livre qu’il est « magnifique
et excellent ».
