Traynor Amplifiers
Thank you for your interest in our Traynor product line. Designed specifically to meet the needs of musicians, all Traynor products (with the exception of DG and our International Series amplifiers) are manufactured in our state-of-the-art facility in Pickering Ontario, located on the outskirts of Toronto, Canada. Our 135,000 sq foot factory houses a full engineering lab where all Traynor amplifiers are designed, tested and proven. Almost every aspect of our product development and manufacturing is done under one roof. Our cabinets are made in our in house CNC wood shop; all metal work, chassis and grilles are formed in our own metal shop. Powder coating and painting, circuit board production, component insertion, screening (board and chassis), thorough testing, final assembly, packing, and distribution is handled by us in one location under the most stringent quality control standards. We use solid plywood cabinet construction because we believe MDF and fiberboard used by other manufacturers cant deliver a long, rattle-free life. Quality components like Celestion and Eminence speakers, hand selected tubes and Accutronics long spring reverbs guaranty outstanding tone and reliability. Hand built in North America using high quality electronic components, hand-selected tubes, Celestion speakers and Accutronics long-spring reverbs, Traynor Custom Special Series guitar amplifiers are built for the working musician. A solid void-free plywood cabinet construction ensures unmatched tone and a long rattle-free life. Innovative mode switching, precision tone stacks, and well thought out professional features make Traynor Custom Special Series heads, cabinets and combos some of the most versatile guitar rigs on the market.
USA/Brit Switch
Unique to the Custom Special Series YCS50, YCS50H and YCS90, the USA / Brit switch relocates the tone stack relative to the gain stages in the clean channel, allowing the EQ section to respond with either a crisp American amp tone with clarity and definition or with a grittier, British flavor associated with the great UK amps of the 60s and 70s. Played with lower gain settings, the Brit-clean tone delivers a smooth, bluesy warmth that provides a complex and fuzzier rock rhythm tone. Played with a higher gain, the same Britclean channel comes to life, delivering a vintage rock crunch that hasnt truly been felt since the non-channel switching - no master volume goes-to-eleven valve amps of the 60s ruled the stage.
Presence & Resonance Controls

Presence and Resonance controls are all included in the master section of the Custom Special 50 Head. The Resonance Control, when used with a high quality and responsive loudspeaker enclosure like the Traynor YCS412V allows the player to dial in anything from a tight and punchy tone to a looser, more vintage-tube sound. This is accomplished by actually controlling the damping factor of the amplifiers output stage. As an additional feature the Presence and Resonance can be removed from the circuit with a simple touch of a switch on the front panel, shorting the signal path and defeating the negative feedback loop delivering a truly vintage tube sound for the tone purist.
Flexible Effects Loops & True Spring Reverbs Modern / Scoop Switch & Solo Boost Level
The Custom Special Series lead channel offers increased flexibility and a wider tone pallet than competitive tube amps in their class. Modern and Scoop switches offer the player a choice of vintage tube drive or a more aggressive scooped guitar tone. A solo boost level on the lead channel offers easy access to an additional gain stage, allowing the amp to deliver a clean, crunch and lead tone from the simple footswitch (included). Handy professional features like an Accutronics spring reverb, separate effect and reverb return levels for clean and lead channels, parallel effect loops for modulation and delay effects and an in-line loop for dynamic and EQ or overdrive units, ensure the Custom Special Series is the ideal center of a modern guitar rig. Full control of the Reverb and Effects loop is handled by an optional two-button footswitch (like the rugged all-metal AFS2)
Selectable Output Power

Custom Special Series amplifiers are capable of switching between high power Class-AB output for maximum clarity and full stage volume, or a lower power Class-A mode for super saturated lead & heavy blues tones at a more manageable volume for studio or rehearsal.

YCS100H 3-Channel All-Tube Head

The North American made Traynor Custom Special YCS100H Head and YCS412 cabinet just might be the ultimate hard rock 100-watt half-stack head and cabinet combination. Built for the road, this true three-channel guitar rig is the stuff the more aggressive guitar player's dreams are made of. The YCS100H's true three-channel architecture offers full control of each channel. No shared EQ's or pseudo "channels" here. Every channel on the YCS100H has individual gain and volume controls, a full three band EQ, boost level and its own effects return and reverb settings. Powered by four EL34EH's the YCS100H has two power levels, a true 100-watt Class-AB mode, and a more manageable 30-watt Class-A configuration ideal for recording or rehearsal. Four 12AX7A's make up the all tube pre-amp stage. To ensure maximum versatility, the YCS100H has an in-line pre-amp send / power amp return for in-line effects, and a side chain effects send with individual effects return level controls for every channel.

Unmatched Tone and Reliability

Traynor Custom Valve Series combos are built using a solid, void-free plywood cabinet construction because we believe MDF (medium density fiberboard) or particleboard cant deliver great guitar tone or a long rattle-free life. A full metal heavy gauge perforated grille under the grille cloth protects the speakers used in all Custom Valve Series combos. A heavy gauge all-metal box chassis protects electronic components and tubes in every model.
Matching Extension Cabinets

All amplifiers in the Traynor Custom Valve Series have optional matching closed back extension cabinets available. Manufactured with the same void-free solid plywood cabinet construction, all metal grilles, matching finishes and speakers, Traynor YCX extension cabinets are ideal companions for Custom Valve Series combos.

Flexible Tone Shaping & Footswitch Control

Channel switching with an additional lead boost is handled by the all-metal two-button footswitch included with all Traynor Custom Valve Series amplifiers. All amplifiers in the Traynor Custom Valve Series have versatile tone stacks for flexible and versatile tone shaping with a handy Bright Switch on the clean channel to add a pristine presence and clarity when required.
Flexible Effects Loops & Direct Output

All amplifiers in the Custom Valve Series have a handy in-line effects loop between the preamp and the power stage. The higher-powered YCV80 and YCV80Q have additional parallel effects loop for side chain effects. Select amplifiers in the line have additional speaker compensated XLR direct outputs (YCV80, 80Q and YCV20WR).

Built for the player that needs high volume and tone in a highly flexible all-tube combo, the Traynor YCV80 2x12 and YCV80Q 4 x 10 amplifiers are built to fill the bill. Four hand selected 5881 tubes in a classic Class-AB design deliver unmatched headroom and clarity for traditional rock, jazz, country and blues players that feel the need to play loud with clarity and brilliance. Two tone-shaping controls appear on the YCV80s that give players unprecedented tonal variety. A 'Scoop' switch on the lead channel adds body for much heavier lead sounds while the 'Expander' switch allows the clean channel to create crystal clear rhythm sounds often simulating an acoustic-like tone from an electric guitar. DynaSound direct output makes the Traynor YCV80 and 80Q sound much more like a miked cabinet through both the XLR direct line output and the stereo headphone jack. A handy speaker defeat switch is provided for silent practice or silent direct recording. A parallel effects loop with separate input and output trim pots for better overall effects control gives the player more flexibility over the signal path than found on other amplifiers in the line.

Traynor DynaGain Series solid-state guitar amplifiers are built for the practicing musician.
Designed to deliver maximum tone in a convenient, lightweight and reliable solid-state combo amp, Traynor DynaGain Series amplifiers use our proprietary three-stage dynamic tube emulation circuit to provide unparalleled tube-like tone. Our Transconductive power amplifier design ensures the solid-state output stage reacts as much like a tube amp as possible, delivering outstanding playability and feel. All amps in the DynaGain Series have auxiliary RCA line input for quick connection of a CD or MP3 player allowing any playalong source to be mixed with the guitar sound. The 1/4-inch headphone jack (with speaker defeat) makes the Traynor DynaGain ideal when private practice is preferred.
DG60R 65-watt 1 x 12 Solid State Combo

The Traynor DG60R offers two fully discrete footswitchable channels, an in line effects loop, 12inch Celestion speaker and a digital reverb. Ideal for practice, but loud enough for most club gigs, the DG60R Series employs three-stage dynamic tube emulation circuitry and a proprietary continuously variable Contour control to ensure you can dial in anything from a vintage tone the most ultra-scooped modern rock sound. The Transconductive amplifier design used exclusively in the DynaGain series ensures the solid-state amplifier reacts like a tube amp. Scalable Output Master Volume in the DG60R acts like a power soak more than a simple Master Volume Control. It emulates tube compression and drive at the output stage allowing the DG60R to simulate low wattage tube tone boxes at lower volumes, or clean high headroom output at full volume. DynaSound speaker emulation on the headphone output, and speaker defeat switch makes the Traynor DynaGain DG60R amplifier the perfect amplifier for the practicing musician.

The Traynor K1 keyboard amplifier offers comprehensive features and crystal clear acoustic reproduction in an ultra compact combo amplifier format. Built for maximum versatility, the 120-watt K1 can be used upright for projecting across a stage, on a typical speaker stand when used as a single speaker micro PA, or as a personal wedge monitor, tucking easily under a keyboard rig on even the most crowded stage. The simple yet effective input section of the K1 provides one stereo input with EQ, a second full function mono channel with XLR combi-jack microphone jack and EQ, a third mono channel with 1/4-inch TRS balanced input, and an additional pair of RCA auxiliary inputs, ideal for CD or MP3 Player. A third input channel with its own volume control allows an additional source to be played though the K1 without being send to the line output. This allows a drum machine, metronome or monitor mix from the front-of-house console to be blended into the stage mix, without being sent back out to the audience. The K1 uses a single 10-inch low frequency woofer and a 4.75-inch high frequency driver in the 120-watt biamplified mono combo amp. A Link jack in the master section allows two K1s to be connected together, combining the full mixing functions of both units when creating a true stereo 240-watt system. The ultra-compact 200-watt Traynor K2 is designed to outperform anything in its class, the K2 is the smallest keyboard amplifier to offer Traynors innovative tube / solid-state input and proprietary Voicing circuitry first introduced on its big brother, the K4. This unique input design makes the Traynor K2 more than a monitor, but part of the keyboard players tone pallet. The Voicing circuit offers several pre-set user selectable tone shapes on channel one to add overall presence to further enhance specific synth sounds on the K2s first channel. The selectable tube or solid state input allows the player to select at pristine, high-headroom solid-state clean input on channel one, or a more warmer, slightly compressed tube circuit to add warmth to digital synths and samplers. In the Beginning
Peter Traynor, the son of an electrical engineer, was still in his early twenties in 1963 and had been repairing amps for his friends while playing bass in local bands since high school. Like most fledgling musicians his age, he would hang around the local music store for hours. He began doing repairs for a well-known music store on a part-time piecework basis in downtown Toronto, and it was soon obvious he had great understanding of things electrical. As a musician himself, he had a rare grasp of the players needs and could identify potential improvements to the new products appearing in the ever-changing music scene. In a very short period of time, local musicians became aware of the fact that there was someone around town with the ability to fix almost anything. Peter soon built a reputation as being the one man able to do repairs and modifications to music electronics, often making modifications that were known to improve reliability and occasionally the overall performance of the item being repaired. Peters work repairing and modifying existing tube amplifiers provided a great education, and eventually he began the quest to design and build a rugged and reliable bass amplifier that could survive the rigors of the road and the demands of a busy music stores rental department. Initially dubbed "Dynabass" and later to be re-named BassMaster Series, the new amplifier was designed with both bass and guitar players in mind. Following up the success of the BassMaster amplifier, Pete Traynor continued to create innovative new products in direct response to the demands of working musicians, and soundmen. His pioneering contributions to live music technology include the portable PA system with its four-channel box mixer featuring all-quarter-inch inputs and outputs the first of its kind to be commercially available. His work with loudspeaker design and more specifically his experience as a live sound engineer led to the creation of the first wedge monitors and the first commercially available 24-channel mixer made for touring use. Other early innovations included portable stage lighting, guitar and bass amplifiers with master volume controls, reliable high-powered bass amplification, the 8 x 10 bass cabinet, and the creation of contract concert sound as a professional viable business. The fledgling enterprise became Yorkville Sound after just a year and a half. Wholly Canadian owned and operated, Yorkville Sound has grown up to be the fully equipped manufacturing and design facility it is today. Operating in a 135,000 square foot Pickering Ontario location, it now employs over 250 people and has well-established distribution for its products across Canada, the United States and around the world. Keeping the tradition of the Traynor instrument amplifier alive has remained an important part of Yorkvilles success over the last four decades. Our first 24 channel mixer, as well as the first ever, commercially produced, 24 channel sound reinforcement board.
YBA3a circa 68
The most powerful bass amplifier of its day. This fan-cooled, portable package pumped out 250W.
EQ-1 circa 73
The first commercially produced PA graphic equalizer.
YM-1 circa 68
The first wedge-style stage monitor. It gave the user a choice of 3 facing angles (and upright mounting) and had a built-in volume control.
YSC-4 circa 66
The first stand-mounted portable PA enclosure. It used four 12-inch full range drivers.
YSC-1 circa 63
The first commercially produced PA column. It contained six full range 8-inch drivers and was designed to be easily transportable.
LS-1 circa 67
The first commercially produced portable lighting system. It featured six colored flood lights and a switch console.
