PROCEDURE:
1.NO-LOAD TEST
(1) Make the connections as shown in figure 1(a) (2 ) With no load on the motor and with autotransformer set for zero output voltage ,switch on the supply. (3) Slowly increase the voltage to normal rated value. (4) While increasing the voltage see that the current drawn by the motor never exceeds the full load value. (5) Note down the no-load voltage ,current and input power.

(6) Reduce the voltage to zero and switch off the supply.Note that the no-load current drawn by the motor is 20-30% of the full load value and the no-load power factor will be usually be less than 0.2 .Hence a LPF wattmeter is used for power measurement.

2.BLOCK ROTOR TEST:

(1) Connections are made as shown in fig.2(b)(Usually about 30% rated voltage is sufficient for circulating full-load current through the stator winding. The power factor under blocked rotor condition is well above 0.5 and hence a UPF wattmeter is to be used. (2) Prevent the rotor from rotation by mechanical loading. (3) With autotransformer set for zero output voltage, switch on the supply. (4) Increase the voltage to a value sufficient to circulate the full-load current through stator windings. (5) Note down the input power, current and voltage applied. (6) Reduce the voltage and switch off the supply and release the load on the motor.

3.STATOR RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT

(1 ) Make the connections as shown in figure1(c) (2) The d.c.resistance per phase of the stator winding is determined by the usual voltmeterammeter method.
