Proposer: Ls OConnor Seconder: Sunniva OReilly Manifesto: Hi, my name is Aoife OConnor and I am a first year Law and

Irish student. Im running for the position of Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the forthcoming session of the Law Society. I would like to start by congratulating the present committee on their success. I wish each one of them all the best in the future. Why should you vote for me as Pro? Firstly, through my role as first year rep for the Hispanic society this year I have first hand knowledge of what this position entails. I spent many an evening assisting our Pro officer in the hub this year. My tasks ranged from creating Facebook pages to designing posters. I studied art for my Leaving Certificate. Therefore, I consider my creative side a key skill for PRO. I have extensive experience using Facebook for promotional purposes as I was involved in a political youth organisation called Dil na ng which required me to use Facebook to promote our events and increase membership. This experience greatly assisted with my research, planning and communication skills. As a member of my school council I was heavily involved with the Pro aspects of school projects and events. I designed our graduation leaflets and helped to create an assortment of posters for our school campaign against domestic violence. I have an ECDL exam certificate and have the latest edition of word and power point on my laptop, which includes templates for posters and leaflets. Due to my fathers complete lack of knowledge of all technologies created after the 1980s I was also involved in the remodelling of our family businesss website. Additionally, the fact that I will be a second year student next year will allow me a greater amount of time to immerse myself in the society. Finally, on a personal level, I believe myself to be an enthusiastic and motivated individual. I will work hard and dedicate as much time as possible to promoting the society and strengthening its presence in UCC. Promotion of Law society I have learned from my time on the Hispanic Society that Facebook is a societys most powerful tool. There are a number of ways in which Id like to improve the societys facebook page. Firstly, I would include Facebook voting polls in order to ascertain what events members would like to see organised. I believe these polls could be used to answer a number of key questions, such as what topics people would like to see debated at house meetings and what events they would like to see organized for our annual Law Week. I would also like to extend the facebook page to include more photographs. At each event I would make sure to take lots of photos and upload them on Facebook. People love to be tagged and look through photos. Also, the society represents each of its members so it is imperative that they feel included within the Law community. Furthermore, by having more Law Society photographs we generate more attention and promotion for the society. If elected, I would designate as much time as possible to designing posters and flyers. I would make these posters clear, concise and eye catching as well as creative. I would also make sure that announcements are made at lectures. I would study all the timetables to see what lectures have maximum attendance and target them.

Social Events I would work closely with the social secretary to increase attendance and ensure full awareness of all law events. I would dedicate time to flyering and putting up posters in order to strengthen the societys presence on campus in the lead up to these events. I would use all other social media available like UCC campus radio and the UCC newspaper for promotion purposes. I would make sure to correspond with class reps so that all members are fully informed on events. Law Week I am keenly aware of the importance of Law Week in order to ensure attendance at the Law Dinner. Therefore, I would work hard with the Internal Convener to guarantee that a brilliant comedian headlines the comedy debate as I believe that this would really boost the weeks publicity. I would support the Social secretary with any new endeavours they have planned for the week. I would be willing to collaborate with other societies to organise and promote joint fundraisers or events. I would secure full attendance at events such as Take Me Out by making sure that the societys Facebook page frequently appears on members home pages, thus enticing them to click in. Law Dinner and Law Ball As regards to the selling of tickets, I would make sure to publicize the extras included on the tickets so that people are fully aware that theyre getting their moneys worth. Hence, I would make more detailed and informative posters and flyers. I would create a campaign to gain as much publicity and attention as possible for the ball. I would work closely with the social secretary to ensure that a well-known band such as Roy 7 plays again. I would use Facebook to promote the awards ceremony using polls and memes to entice all members to participate in the voting process. I would use spot prizes and events such as the Law Hunt to portray the ball as a must to attend for all students. I would carefully plan a YouTube video with the aim of gaining as much attention and hype as possible for the law ball. House Meetings I would do my utmost to facilitate and support the internal convenor to raise attendance at these events. This would involve contacting all class reps to ensure that people are informed in advance and creating Facebook pages for each event. I believe that working with Pro officers from other societies such as Amnesty, Philisoph and Journalism would also help to promote the events to a wider audience. I would work with the faculty to certify that evening students and mature students are fully informed of each event. COLR Cork Online Law Review is at the forefront of the law society. If elected I would uphold its prestigious reputation by presenting the website as the revolutionary, respectable and reliable legal source it is. By organising a well-planned promotional campaign we would entice Law students of all ages to become involved in the organisation. I would also work hard to advertise each of its successful endeavours it will undoubtedly achieve in the forthcoming year. Magazine and Freshers

The magazine is an extremely important showcase for the Law Society. Having worked on my school magazine from transition year up until sixth year, Im aware of the work thats involved in making sure it is of a high standard. As I have studied Art, I would be more than capable of creating an appropriate tone and image, which I believe, would establish a good impression of the magazine. I would give detailed information about the society and what it entails. This would include a calendar with dates of all Law events, thus making it appealing for first year students to become involved. I would present the society as approachable, educational and friendly. As regards Freshers Week, I would do my best to distinguish our society from the various other clubs and societies, making sure that we have a strong presence around campus. As a peer support leader I will be able to make announcements to incoming students and promote the society personally while dealing with students in small groups.
