EAST BAY COMMUNITY LAW CENTER JOB ANNOUNCEMENT TEMPORARY MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER

The East Bay Community Law Center is seeking an experienced Major Gifts Officer to cover a staff members four month leave. The person will work closely with the Director of Development & Planning as a member of the three-person Development team responsible for raising the funds necessary to meet the organization's annual budget of over $3 million. The focus of this position is on the cultivation and management of law firm and individual major donor relationships. Description of Organization: The East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 to provide high quality legal services to low-income clients and educational opportunities for law students and community volunteers. EBCLC is currently the largest provider of legal services for low-income residents in the East Bay and UC Berkeley Law School's community-based legal services clinic. EBCLC has six program areas with multiple law clinics. The program areas are: Housing, Health & Welfare, Economic Justice, Immigration, Youth Education and Defense, and Policy Advocacy. The organization is supported by a diverse array of funding sources, including individual donors, law firms, corporations, foundations, government contracts, educational institutions, attorney fees, and cy pres awards. Primary Responsibilities: Work with Executive Director and Director of Development & Planning to develop and implement the law firm and individual major donor elements of the Annual Giving Campaign. Assist in the solicitation of one-time stretch gifts to EBCLCs 25th Anniversary Fund for the Future campaign. Manage the cultivation and solicitation of charitable contributions from law firms and individual major donors. Work with Executive Director, Director of Development & Planning, and Board members to maintain positive relationships with all donors, including timely recognition of gifts. Lead the research of new prospects for individual major donor support. Help to produce 25th Anniversary gala for the purpose of raising funds and raising public awareness of the work of the organization, especially among alumnae of the EBCLC law student internship program who are potential major donors. Complete additional tasks as assigned by Director of Development & Planning and other tasks as set forth in an individual work plan. Minimum Qualifications: BA Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum five years experience in fundraising for non-profit community-based organizations, including individual major donor prospect research, cultivation, and solicitation. Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills, including public speaking and face-toface donor asks. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Familiarity with law firms and major donor individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people, including Board members, funders, donors, attorneys, and community clients.

Computer savvy, including experience with Microsoft Office and database applications; familiarity with development databases such as Exceed, Razors Edge desirable. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for managing her/his database input and reports. Salary: Non-profit salary commensurate with experience; benefits include sick and holiday pay.
