knowledge and abilities at university level. Continuous assessments like course work and projects are poor measures of students abilities
The knowledge which is acquired by the students can be judged in many ways, such as formal exams, projects or course work, etc. It is argued that so serious and infallible are the formal exams that they will be the best alternative to evaluate the students real abilities. First and foremost, the students are not allowed to cheat or plagiarize in serious formal exams. As we can see, in course work or projects, students can take advantage of multitudinous sources of information in the internet. Thanks to those easily accessible websites, everything which is essential and necessary can be downloaded and used in their work. In some cases, unfortunately, they tend to do nothing but copy the data and paste them in their project without showing the original sources where they obtain them. For example, when writing an essay, some lazy students leave no stone unturned to find a model writing in the internet, copy it and finally the essay is submitted to the teachers. However, in formal exams, it is the true ability that helps them have a satisfying result. Subsequently, the students can not depend on their teammates to get good marks in formal examinations, needless to say. To do well in written exams, they have to stand on their own feet on the ground that no one stands there telling them what to do or where to look for the information. The amount of labor put on learning will be vocalized obviously in their tests score, needless to say. Nonetheless, in course work, the final result just articulates the devotion of all team members. Therefore, some students do not work their fingers to the bone and leave their work for the others. Hardly can the individual abilities of the students can be assessed accurately through course work or presentations. Last but not least, the formal tests help the students to review everything they have acquired during the course. As we can know, a wide range of knowledge is usually

included in the contents of the written exams. Although the teachers may put more of an emphasis on some parts, the students still have to pull their weight and learn systematically to cover the books. If they just concentrate on a part, they may get a big zero when their test does not include what they prepared. Thus, it is the meticulous and unrelenting revision that brings the gratifying result to the assiduous students. On the contrary, they do not have more chances to review the lessons after their course work or presentations. Indubitably, many of them forget almost everything some months after submitting their essay or presentations. To sum up, formal exams are the most appropriate ways to scrutinize the students attitude towards learning and taking in knowledge.
