or many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by some wandering magi from the East. Today we celebrate another showing, later in time, to a group gathered at the Jordan River. John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as one mightier than I. But he did as Jesus asked, and the Holy Spirit descended and heavens voice spoke to Jesus, You are my beloved Son. Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him. Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In todays second reading, he announces the heart of the message, peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. Peter was called, and you and I are called to spread that message and to serve Gods word.

Illinois Women Religious Against Human Trafficking January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month
The United Nations currently estimates human trafficking to be the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world, second only to drug trafficking in terms of illicit money. Experts believe that 27 million people around the world live in slavery, and between 14-17,000 people are brought to the United States for exploitation as domestic servants, restaurant workers, janitors, agricultural workers, seamstresses, factory workers or in the commercial sex trade. Runaway children in the United States are at high risk to become part of this devastating system. Prayer to End Human Trafficking Loving and compassionate God, we pray for the release of the millions of innocent children, teenagers, women and men who have been drawn into prostitution, sweatshops and domestic servitude by human trafficking. Increase our awareness of this terrible injustice. May the compassionate people who seek to help these victims be blessed in their efforts to free them from captivity and to provide safe shelters for them. We confidently ask all this in Jesus name. Amen. Action: Learn about Human Trafficking at the US Catholic Bishops website http://usccb.org/about/human-trafficking/ www.polarisproject.org

From the Pastors Desk

I hope you all had a nice Christmas and I hope that you are not responsible for the fireworks on New Years Eve that woke me up at midnight. On behalf of Fr. Joe, Fr. Marcin, and myself I want to thank you all for your kindness and all the Christmas greetings, cards, and gifts we have received. We thank you also for your generosity toward our parish. Thank you for your love and care for our church. We want you to know that we see it and appreciate it very much. Thanks to you we were able to renovate the shrine and the baptistery area in our church. We did repair and paint the ceiling in the shrine and in the small vestibules. We repaired and painted all the walls and confessional rooms. We removed the bars and replaced the carpet in that area as well. We installed new columns and lights. We put new confessionals in the reconciliation rooms and created a cabinet for all the relics exposed there. We upgraded the lights in the sanctuary by putting new bulbs and made sure that all of them work. We ordered a sample of the new light fixture for our church and when we get it we will try it on and then together we will make a final decision. We want to thank again all those who supported our renovation appeal and fulfilled their pledges and those who continue giving to the repairs and maintenance collections which will be used for the renovation as well. Very soon we will be asked by Cardinal Francis George to participate in this years Catholic Annual Appeal from which we were exempt last year doing our renovation appeal. The last weekend of January will be the information weekend and the first weekend of February will be a commitment weekend when we will make our pledges. As you know the funds received through the Annual Catholic Appeal support many programs and Catholic Schools in our Archdiocese. Our goal for the Annual Catholic Appeal this year is almost $34,000.00. Anything that will exceed our goal will come back to the parish as a rebate and will go toward our renovation funds. I think this is the best way to get new funds for the next phase renovation of our church. So let us keep in mind that when we give generously to the Archdiocese Catholic Annual Appeal, we will be giving at the same time to our parish. If you receive the Catholic Annual Appeal mailing directly you don't have to send your pledges individually, but please participate in our parish Annual Catholic Appeal Campaign. If you decide to do it individually, make sure that you put the name of our parish on your pledge card so this way our parish will get credit for that donation. Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, which concludes the Christmas season. Todays celebration reminds us that the practice of our faith shouldnt be a responsibility and a burden, but a joy and splendor. We shouldnt attend Mass just to fulfill our Christian obligations, but to receive the goods for the spirit, which only God can grant unto us. One day, I administered the Sacrament of Baptism to an infant who was going to undergo a very serious surgery on the next day. I admire the faith of the parents who did not forget about the most important preparation (Baptism) of the baby before the surgery. Through Baptism the child received Gods Grace and became a child of God and of the Church. We are all gods children since our Baptism. Today, we thank God for this gift and show Him our gratitude by having concern for His church. Let us remember our Parents and Godparents thanks to whom we received this gift of faith. Thank you. God Bless You All!

Mam nadzieje, ze te Swieta byly dla was radosne i jeszcze bardziej zblizyly Was do Boga i do siebie w Waszych rodzinach. Dzieki temu moglismy odnowic nasza kaplice, moglismy zainstalowac nowe kolumny, nowe oswietlenie, karpet i dwa nowe konfesjonaly. Zapraszamy do kaplicy na modlitwe przed relikwiami Swietych ktore sa tam umieszczone w specjalnym gabinecie. Udalo sie nam rowniez udoskonalic troche oswietlenie w prezbiterium naszego kosciola poprzez wymiane zarowek. Bog Zaplac i Szczesc Boze. Przezywamy dzisiaj Swieto Chrztu Panskiego, ktore zamyka liturgiczny okres Bozego Narodzenia. Swieto Bozego Narodzenia i Objawienia Panskiego byly okresem manfestacji naszej wiary. Pewnego dnia udzielilem Chrztu Swietego dziecku, ktore nastepnego dnia mialo miec powazna operacje. My tez jestesmy dziecmi Bozymi od dnia naszego Chrztu Swietego. Dziekujemy wiec dzis Bogu za ten dar i okazmy Mu nasza wdziecznosc poprzez troske o Jego kosciol. Pamietajmy dzis o modlitwie za naszych rodzicow i rodzicow chrzestnych dzieki ktorym otrzymalismy skarb wiary.

Faith can be Funny

During a reconciliation service before an upcoming wedding, the mother of the bride confessed to the priest that she just learned that the grooms mother had bought the exact same dress she had for the wedding. Im so mad I could just kill her; that dress cost me a fortune, the woman told the priest. But then she said, Dont worry, Father. I dont really mean that. Ill just go and buy another dress to wear to the ceremony, But what will you do with that expensive dress? the priest asked. Wont you ever use it? Who said I wont use it? said the woman. Ill just wear it to the rehearsal dinner. -Deacon Tom Sheridan On the outside of their envelopes, the children of St. Francis Borgia Parish noted how they used their time and talents to help others. This week I prayed for my family I gave my time and talents to others this week by helping my parents around the house remembering the real meaning of Christmas and not just gifts...

Thank you for sharing your gifts of time, talents, and treasure with your parish!
