Movie Review Jose Rizal plated by Cesar Montano

As I watched the movie, I saw how Rizal depicted the times of Spaniards with his books Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. The movie goes on showing Rizals life while at the same time, picturing some parts of the stories from his books. Somehow, the transitions made me a little confused before I got the idea. When watching, I thought of Rizal as Simeon or Ibarra. Simeon went to Europe to study while Rizal did the same. Simeon went to Europe without letting Maria Clara that hes still alive. And Rizal did the same. He went to Europe without letting Leonor know that hes leaving. I also thought of Leonor as Maria Clara for Simeons true love next to his country was Maria Clara and same goes to Rizal. With the movie, I felt how great Pacianos role in Rizals life. He was the one with Rizal when he went out to study. Then because of Paciano, Rizal made it to Europe. He was like more close to Paciano than he was with his father for Paciano did more for him than with his father. Rizals love for his mother was also shown in the movie. When he was younger, he didnt want to study else where but just homeschooling with his mother. He said he could learn everything he needed in life with his mothers help. Its just that his father forced him to go to a dormitory school because of some instances. Also, with the movie, I saw how Rizal wanted her mother to be well that he studied optometry just to be able to operate for his mothers eyes.

In the movie, it showed how great Rizal in terms of being a genius, a writer, artist, and a doctor. A genius for when he studied in Europe, he excelled especially with medicine. He was also a good doctor because he himself was the one who operated his mother. An artist and a writer, for all we know, he wrote two books that we still use and study until now. The movie showed how Rizal struggled for the two books to be published and how he fought for the right of the Filipinos with his books. Also, he showed bravery for the country with La Solidaridad that shows how dedicated he was when he was sure of what he was doing. My favorite part of the movie was when Rizal was in jail and he was talking to his lawyer. The lawyer said he was proud to be chosen by Rizal but he was not sure of whether to trust Rizal or not. He even questioned Rizals points. But Rizal remained firm and for that little argument, he fought for what he know was right and best for his country though he know that the lawyer may help him get out of jail. The most heartwarming part of the movie was when Rizal was about to be shot by gun. He stood proudly as if saying that killing him wont stop and solve anything. The scene that showed the sky seemed to mean that things were just right and the battle was just about to begin.

Reaction Paper: A visit to Fort Santiago

Fort Santiago is a part of the great walls of Intramuros which was used before as a defense fortress of Manila before. The place played a great part with the countrys history for this place was where the national hero of the country was imprisoned and died. I heard of some facts that the place was also used for the Galleon Trade for it was placed near a water bank. Way back two years ago, I was able to visit Fort Santiago for the first time. The first thing that caught my attention then, was how the guards were dressed. They wore blue tops and light brown pants with hats different from common polices. They said those were the kinds of uniform for the guard way back the Spanish era. And it was just cool to know how guards back then looked like. When entering, I was amused by how the entrance looked. It has a big arc and tall walls. Then walking through something that looked like a bridge, the water lilies looked just right with the place for somehow it matched the ambiance. The place was so big its kind of tiring to explore so we went straight to the famous bronze walks. Where the exact steps of Jose Rizal were lined with bronzes the shape of feet. At the end of the walk, there was a small statue of Rizal in the exact place where he died.

There were even Kalesas it the place which makes it like I were really in the era when this place was active. I also saw foreigners and researchers being amused by the place. Even with the horses and the friendly facilitators. I felt pleasured for being able to see such a meaningful heritage for the countrys history. The place made me feel like I was visiting the past. Seeing even the rock colors and formations felt like everything was meant to be there. Fort Santiago was like a summary of one of the most important part of the countrys history. The place was so full of information and filled with great experiences and lessons. Knowing that a great hero died here while fighting for the love of the country was like knowing how he felt too. It made me know how important the events for the country happened here. Im proud to know that there were still some places in the country which were kept safe even hundreds of years ago just for our generation to know the people who sacrificed their lives for the freedom we have right now. And also, a place for foreign visitors to know and also remember a Filipino that can fight will all his life for the sake of the country he belongs and he love.
