Choose New in File menu. An active window appears with two tabs : the first one concerns general information on request. These information will enable to save the request and fulfill some fields of the report (cf. The Report).
The second one deals with the request itself. You may search the patents using either key words included in title and/or summary, or using any other field of a patent.
4/30
Warning : as explained on the espacenet web site, your request must not be too complexe, must not include up to 2 boolean operators. For any further information on requests, please consult the following web site http://www.espacenet.com/.
Update a request
First open your request (cf : Open an existing request ), choose Update in File menu. A window gives you the newest patents from the date of the latest update or the date of the request. Simply click on ok in that window to valid the update.
5/30
Information : the update frequency may be diary, a lighting bulb pictogram will inform the user on the new patents.

InfoPatent
The window gives the patent list called Mainlist and information on the selected patent, called Infopatent Information : by clicking on the InfoPatent window. icon in tool bar you may choose to active or disactive
Thanks to that display mode, the user profits by a general display of the collected patents and by clicking on the column title he may sort the list. Another tab named Resources views, when they exist, the following documents : the abstract, the description, the claims, the first page drawing, the whole drawings.

InfoPatent
8/30
The window offers a group of 7 tabs (one for each category : Applicants, Inventors, Groups,) directly acting on the display of the patents MainList . For example, if the user selects an inventor he only will view the patent list of that inventor. That is what we call Display by constraints .
Groups
A group is a set of patents the user selects using the context-sensitive menu shown on each patent. To create a group the user will choose Add to a group in the context-sensitive menu and then click on New .
To find the group list the user created, simply display the Constraints clicking on the icon on the tool bar and select the Group tab.

Families
A family is a group of patents considered as equivalent by espacenet. To create families, Matho Patent uses information given in the Equivalent field. To create families, just click on the are created once again. . icon. Each time the user clicks on it, all families

Family
When a family does not include all patents in local, Matho Patent displays a green little square giving the available patents. The user may constantly download a non-recovered patent using the patent context-sensitive menu. The red square icon will turn green when that patent will be downloaded.

Graphics
As they do in their whole tool range, Matheo programs offer 3 sorts of graph drawings (networks, charts and matrice). They all follow the same principle : the user may first select the field or the fields he wants to mix by clicking on the icon corresponding to his graph and consquently he will be offered one of the two following windows :

Networks
A network is a cartographic drawing of relations existing between items of a population. A cartography enables an insentive interpretation of information. A network is the result of links and tops. To analyse bulk information, filters are needed and 3 ones are at your disposal. In the following example, we are analysing some scientific articles, mainly the links existing between their authors (B, C, D, E, U, V). We get the following network for the 3 filters :
Forms : number of articles edited by an author Connectivity : number of other authors with whom an author worked. Pairs : efficient collaboration (in number).
In the above example, the use of filters gives the following graphs :
13/30
Font : Modifies the size of caracters offered in the boxes Step : Inscreases or decreases space between boxes : Displays or hides the upper part including the rules : Stops the moving of boxes : Displays or hides the value between 2 boxes (Connectivity) : Displays or hides tool bar rules. : saves the network picture. 2) The rules
14/30
These rules enable a dynamic interaction on the network making boxes appear or disappear according to their own characteristics (forms and pairs frequency). Forms Frequency (value between parenthesis in boxes) : by moving Min and Max values, the user acts on the boxes display. In the example : Min = 3 and Max = 10, we only view the boxes corresponding to these caractheristics. Pairs Frequency (value in small circles between boxes) ; as above, the user in that case acts on Pairs. The principle is the same as in Form Frequency. 3) Options
Constraint : that knob influences on the propagation of characteristics between boxes. Would the user decide to hide all Pair Frequencies <2, some boxes of which the Pair Frequency was >2 will disappear for they were linked to boxes the Pair Frequency of which was <2. : That knob enables you, anytime you want, to view again the boxes you decided to hide before. 4) The Context-sensitive menu
Fix box : Fixes the box while the other ones are active Define color.., Default color : Changes the box background color Define background color : Changes the window background color Hide box : Hides a box on demand

Charts
Thanks to the various knobs on the tool bar, you will easily change the form of bars and choose a pie chart. Axes also can be modified in depth and in 3D. A saving option is also available so as to save a graph. Knobs available on the tool bar are the following ones :
: Offers a range of various graphs (horizontal, vertical histogram, pie chart) : Changes the form of bars in histograms : Not only places the legend but hides it on demand : Gives the graphs a 3D effect : Offers a palette of colors for graphs : these 2 rules modify the graphs perspective in depth and the Y axis.
16/30
: only 10 bars are the default option in histograms. That option enables either to get the following 10 bars or to view all bars in the same window. : Enables sorting graphs, choosing either forward sort on numeric values, or background sort on numeric values, or alphabetical sort on names. : Enables saving a graph as a picture.
17/30
Matrice
Parameters of column and row width are modifiable so as to adjust their display. Two sorting knobs (sort on values, sort on cells) give a different view of the matrix you are creating. You also may modify the column width (Col Width) and the row height (Row Height). The knob will export the matrice to a text format.

Button Report/List
To create a report or a list, you must select the kind that you want. Matheo Patent launches the Word application, opens a new document and automatically fulfill it thanks to the information get from the active request. That new document will be modified, saved, on demand of the user. 4 kinds of reports, 3 kinds exists: For reports : Global, Short, IPC, Applicant. Pour les listes, il y a : Applicant, IPC, Inventor.

1. Global Report
The various parts of a Matheo Patent report are listed below : General information (ie : the request, the number of selected patents,) Details (ex : the best inventors or applicants, the CIB codes, the Ecla codes,) Statistics (ex : mixing of inventors/applicants, of applicant/CIB) Users information (Groups and Families) Patents named in the report.

Pertinence Definition
That menu is detailed below : Mark as read : if the patent is a new one, it appears with a lighting bulb, which means the patent has been readed. The bulb is then switched off. Add/Modify a comment : enables adding or modifying a comment on the selected patent. Pertinence : would the user be interested in the selected patent, he may give it a pertinence.
24/30
Add to group : a patent may be part of a set we call a group. New or Create a new group option (in Edit menu) will make you create a group. When clicking on Groups tab, all the groups will be shown. Delete from a group : a patent making part of a lot of groups may be deleted from one of them or from all of them on demand of the user. Export to Microsoft Word (c) : prints the patent into a document Word (c). Download : Espacenet delivers the patents under PDF format, Matho Patent offers the users that possibility. None or some patents may be available and we call them equivalent patents (very usefull when you are looking for a patent in a language you understand). Rename : rename the selected. Delete : the patent is definitely erased from the database . Be carefull when using delete , a deleted patent becomes unaivalable.
25/30
Details of that menu are described below : Mark as read : if the patent is a new one, it appears with a lighting bulb, which means the patent has been readed. Every patent including the selected word (inventor, applicant, CIB code,) has been readed. The bulb is then switched off. Add/Modify a comment : enables adding or modifying a comment on the selected word (inventor, applicant, CIB code,...). Add to group : opposite to the context-sensitive menu on a patent. That option adds all patents including the selected term (inventor, applicant, CIB code,) to a new group or an existing group. Export to Microsoft Word (c) : prints the patent into a document Word (c). (inventor, applicant, CIB code,) Rename : Rename the selected items.

The big difference concerns the New option in the context-sensitive menu. In fact, Family menu does not offer it for families are automatically created.
