ALL DIMENSIONS ARE IN mm. TAP DRILL SIZE = (D 0.6495) X 2d X p = (12 - 0.6495) X (2 X 0.75) X 1.75 = 10.3 mm
D= Diameter of the tap (12 mm) d = depth (0.75 mm) p = pitch (1.75 mm)

TOOLS AND INSTRUMENTS REQUIRED: 1) Parting tool 2) Spanner set 3) Punch 4) Vernier caliper PROCEDURE: 1. Initially the work piece is marked according to given dimensions. 2. The cutting tool (milling cutter) is inserted in the milling arbour 3. The work piece is clamped on the machine vice and the required depth of cut is set. 4. The machining is performed by operating the tool towards the work piece. 5. Finally, we get one external keyway cut on the work piece. 6. Repeat the same procedure and produce other three external key ways on the work piece. RESULT: Thus the 4 Nos of external keyways are cut on Aluminium rod as per the dimensions given in the sketch using milling machine.

Ex. No: 5 Date : PRODUCING A SQUARE BLOCK FROM A CAST IRON ROUND BLOCK
AIM: To produce a square block from the given cast iron round block using shaper MATERIALS REQUIRED: ALUMINIUM 40 mm X 30 mm Length
TOOLS & INSTRUMENTS REQUIRED: 1. HSS tool (V tool) 2. Sprit Level 3. Dot Punch 4. Tri Square 5. Hammer 6. Spanner- 1 set 7. Steel rule 8. Scribers PROCEDURE: 1) The given work piece dimensions are checked. 2) The facing operation is done on workpiece on two sides 3) Mark the required square shape on the given job by using dot punch and hammer 4) The job is fixed on the machine vice properly. 5) Proper stroke length is adjusted by moving the sliding block towards the ball gear. 6) By giving down ward feed to the tool head and cross feed to the table, the excess material is removed on the given job. 7) The finishing cut has to be given properly till the smooth surface has been obtained on the job at each side of the job. 8) The above procedure is repeated for the remaining sides. 9) After completion of four sides the finished job is inspected against the given dimensions. RESULT: Thus a square block is produced from the cast iron round block as per the dimensions given in the sketch.
2. The cutting tool (milling cutter) is inserted to the milling machine arbor.
3. The work piece is clamped on the machine vice and the required depth of cut is set. 4. The machining is performed by operating the tool towards the work piece. 5. Finally, we get hexagonal block as per the dimensions given in the sketch. RESULT: Thus a hexagonal block is produced from the aluminium round block as per the dimensions given in the milling machine.
